I remember a video some years back of teens talking about the "history" of Metalcore and their favorite mosh moves. My favorite quote went something along the lines of:
"First, there were metal bands, like Slipknot and Korn. And then bands were like 'hey, let's be more hardcore,' and that's how metalcore started."
That's not it. It was professionally made, and it was a look into "what the kids are into these days." It started with "My name is ____. I've been slam dancing for 2 years now" and went into the quote that I mentioned.

I clearly remember this! I think there was also some kid who used to practice on the sidewalk in front of his house and didn't quite understand why people would look at him funny. Sadly, a Youtube search for "moshing faggots" yielded no results.
I thought every kid that went to Rocko's was a faggot? Why is the video called the "Hardcore addition" when neither of the bands played were hardcore? I know the first band was Lamb of God and i'm not sure of the shitty second band.

I admittedly see them too- last great one I saw was in richmond when DA played there around 2005....I get excited and nostalgic when it happens, until some "linear" thinking douche smashes my daydream

Outdoor festival, mid 90s. That was probably what first drew me in - literally - if I wanted to not get trampled, I had no where else to go but around and around in the furious whirlpool of bodies and dust.

As to the original topic... I have to hide the cringe every time I get a kid at work who tells me that he/she is into "metal" and then tells me what bands they're into. I would hate to hear their version of the "history" of metal / hardcore / metalcore.

hahaha...When I was a lad, because my dad did not listen to anything made after 1973, I always thought the final rock band to ever exist was Jethro Tull, and then rap and pop just completely swallowed it whole. I guess I was half right.
