Morbid Angel
The 2012 Maryland Deathfest date IS NOT confirmed yet even when the band appears on their website as the headliner. We will post any official show confirmations as we receive them.

Ghoul, Unsane, Bloody Phoenix, and Agents of Abhorrance. I can get down with that. I'd be able to get down with Morbid Angel if they weren't so Radikult these days too.
To a point. I like the feel of the weekend though. You get to go walk around a city you don't live in (yeah I know it's Baltimore, but still), you get to see people you don't see very often and grab some grub with them, and you get to see some kick ass bands in between. The weekend I went was one of the best weekends I've ever had in my life, and the same is true of any fest I've been to.

how many drummers and bassists will Today IS the Day go through before this fest appearance?
I just came back to see if anyone commented about my posting of Morgoth only to realized that I didn't submit the comment. Morgoth playing this is awesome.

I hope Morgoth does Feel Sorry For The Fanatic and Morbid Angel does Illud Divinum Insanus, both in their entirety.
so are demigod back together or what? i really need to see songs from slumber..
Well, considering that they are "confirmed" for MDF, one would not be out of line to assume that they are back together.
...or what?

i dunno they claimed to have broke up but they seem to be on every big death metal fest...it seems like maybe they are only playing big shows?
post by CrabRagoooons at Jul 2,2011 2:24am
Bethlehem, Fuck the shit yeah!!!!! Why is no one else excited?!?! And Negura Bunget? Have they even been in the US yet? And why is everyone all down on the fest? I mean what's it going to take to please you people?
The fest is awesome for checking out bands that you never really did before. I get all anal and download and read up on all the bands. I walked away with new favorites from the last one.
They're hardcore. I like the imagery on their releases. I like it for a change of pace but wouldn't be advising that band to anyone. Cretin or Avulsed is the way to go.

MA's judgement system is subjective and severely flawed. There's bands that should be on there, and bands that shouldn't. They've omitted bands for idiotic reasons. The whole site is a penis pulling contest amongst those with high enough points to make decisions. I love the site, but it irks me to no end when people use it as a basis of a band being "metal" or not, purely based of the sole reason of a band being present in it's database.
Subjective selectivity is subjective, and downright idiotic considering most of the people that run it are real-life padawans. I'm not talking about Wren here, just the general population of the site. It's full of great admins and knowledgable people, but has become the go-to site for people making opinions on bands. Those with high enough points are allowed dictation rights, which in time will lead to internet metal elitism- something we all hate, right? /rant

Yeah, but there's only so many bands out there you never thought you'd get to see live that you will actually get to see live, it doesn't surprise me that after ten years of doing it, MDF would start to lose some steam in that department.
I'll take what I can get at this point. Perhaps thinking of it as more of a "bands I never thought I'd get to see at MDF" kind of deal.
Speaking of bands I thought I'd never get to see, are the two of us the only ones on here excited about Noothgrush? Great announcement right there.
Couple that with Autopsy, Cough, Coke Bust, Infernal Stronghold, and Backslider, that's a hell of an announcement. Napalm Death might even be good for all I know.
post by bloblovesmusic at Jul 28,2011 3:08pm
Napalm Death was kinda disappointing at MDF09 for me. They sounded like a decent but unremarkable death metal band. I suppose I was expecting more at the time. Maybe I'll like them better this time around.
But yeah, totally stoked to see Infernal Stronghold on this, fantastic band!
Due to a variety of reasons, Morgion, Unanimated, and Dodheimsgard have cancelled their appearance at MDF X. Statements from each band can be found below.
SETHERIAL (Sweden) have been added to the Friday show. PENTAGRAM (Chile) and MORTUARY DRAPE (Italy) have been added to the Sunday show. All of the replacement bands will be making an exclusive US appearance at MDF.
Press Release by Rhett Davi...s (MORGION)
"It is with great regret that I must inform you all that MORGION must postpone our performance at this year’s Maryland Death Fest, on Friday May 25th. Jeremy (Peto – Bass/Vocals) recently sustained a quite serious neck & back injury, serious enough to where he must undergo surgery and months of physical therapy. Needless to say we are all very concerned for his health and well-being, we must ask you to be patient with us just a lil’ bit longer! On the positive, we have our Rabid Decay Demo – Live Rehearsal Demo – Travesty 7”EP re-release on CD called “God of Death & Decay” on Dark Descent Records, as well as the double gatefold “Solinari” vinyl release on Parasitic Records due before MDF! I do have to stress this is NOT a cancellation, this is a postponement… Our sincere apologies for this, but the circumstances are quite serious and we hope our fans/friends understand and wish Jeremy a speedy recovery!"
DHG mastermind Vicotnik has stated:
"DHG are extremely sad to announce they must cancel their performance
at MDF 2012. The band had been looking forward to playing what is
the best metal event of the year in North America, but most
unfortunately have to cancel the trip owing to issues relating to criminal records within crew and the likely impact on the working VISA application that these
will have. It was not known when the booking was made that
certain members of the crew are known to legal authorities formally and DHG
would like to make clear that this is in no way the fault of the festival
organizers who have been professional and extremely helpful
throughout, even offering the services of a VISA lawyer to remedy the
situation at their own cost. DHG would like to apologise sincerely to
the MDF crew for the cancellation"
Richard Cabeza of Unanimated has stated:
"I am sorry to announce that UNANIMATED will not perform at Maryland Deathfest May 27th, Due to visa problems and personal issues we have decided to cancel our show!
We discussed to bring in session members for the show, just so we were able to do it, but came to the decision not to. We either play with a full line up or we don’t! We were very excited to perform on US soil for the first time and at Maryland Deathfest…of course now we are very disappointed not to, However we will come back next year to play!
We will now focus all our energy to the writing of the new album!"

All in all, I'd say this is an upgrade for me. Would of made sure I saw DHG and Unanimated, but I am an active fan of Pentagram and Mortuary Drape.
post by Demondave on the demonrails at Mar 15,2012 4:56pm
This just gets better for me. I have woshipped the Chilean Pentagram for years
I hope more bands cancel. Everytime they do the show gets upgraded. By may Death will probably be playing.
post by quintessence.nli at Mar 16,2012 12:03am
I wanted to see Dodheimsgard, but chilean Pentagram is a LOVELY upgrade. Now if fucking RADIKULT KULT would just cancel adn they could ad Sodom instead.

Really disappointed that DHG dropped off; they were one of the primary reasons I was attending this year. Also extremely disappointed that Morgion won't be making it either. I think it's cool that they added Setherial, been a fan for years, but overall I'm pretty bummed about this update.

additions of M Drape and Pentagram is awesome butttt...DHG dropping does suck.

Kind of wish I didnt have such a wide range of good taste for this fest after looking at the running order. playing at almost the exact same times.... Negura Bunget/Artillery, Horna/Confessor, YOB/Pentagram.... I dont know why they cant drop a few of the shit bands no one cares about that play at 1 in the afternoon and loose a stage. Its kind of stupid.
gf and I need a floor to crash on or a hotel room to split. just for friday night. also, we have pllenty of room in our car if anyone needs a ride, but we're leaving friday and coming back saturday.
I've seen good morbid angel. Don't care at all anymore whether they play new or old shit, because I'm not watching those queers either way. Vincent needs to go back to the genitorturers and leave metal alone from now on.

seriuosly, they need some quality control. I mean, who's actually gonna show up at 1:45 on saturday to see 'looking for an answer' (whoever the fuck that is) or at 1:30 sunday, hungover as fuck, to see some band called backslider? This fest should just be two days, and cut out the bad parts. But then it wouldn't be 'americas biggest metal PARTY.' God I hate metalheads.

Backslider is an awesome band for the record. They came around Boston a few months ago and they killed it.

Backslider and LFAA are both awesome bands that I would make it a point to go early to see. Also, when I went to MDF a couple years ago, I barely even had any time to drink because I was so preoccupied with watching bands and browsing merch booths that I just flat out forgot.

youre talking about a fest that has a history of bands dropping off. They have back ups for the headliners, but if any of the other bands drop off they just move up the start time. Its stupid for them not to have too many bands.
BTW, how do you not know what every band on this fest sounds like? FYI, there's this thing called the Internet where you can find music by most bands that have ever existed.
It's not exactly hard to find out what a band sounds like nowadays, as long as you're willing to take 2 seconds out of your life to Google the band, and the 5 minutes or so to take the time to listen to the band.

I don't know because I don't care. Going to shows at 1 in the afternoon is for the birds. I'm essentially paying like $300 bucks to see Godflesh and then coming home.

Well, if you're only going to see 1 band, then my "rant" wasn't for you.

Getting pretty psyched for this. Im there all four days. I'll be searching for pharmaceuticals heavily by the way if anyone might *cough* know something. Godflesh and electric wizard are not to be enjoyed sober.
