I might be in the need for a band practice room soon (I want to learn how to play drums, but room for other band shit would be awesome too). Anywhere along Route 495 would be very convenient, but I'm open to all suggestions really.
We should use this thread as the official New England band room reference thread. I'm really only familiar with one place, but you should add more with the contact info to keep this updated:
They keep changing the name, but there's a place down from exit 6 off 495 that used to be called "River's Edge". I think it's the Music Complex, or Bandstand Live, or some such thing nowadays.
Just DON'T take a room on the first floor. You have been warned. It really IS on the "River's Edge"
I don't know which it is. There's bandstand, and there's the music complex or something. The one I'm talking about would be right next to the redemption center in Taunton.

I used to practice at some place around 1989 in right new to rt 93. I think Extreme and a ton of others bands. It was a huge place, anyone remember the name of it?

theres bandstand in taunton which is nice. you get free internet, heat, ac, and 24 hour access. mass music is also in taunton. there you get flooded on the first floor. theres also a place in framingham. its about 5 maybe more miles from exit 21, not sure what its called though.
Bandstand live is an extremely nice building with high end security (they have keypads that use a fingerprint scanner, no joke) with 24 hour camera surveillance and a really nice lounge area in the main entrance. They even have a drum shop in there. Definitely worth checking out if its worth the driving distance.
I would mention the Sound Museum but that's directly in Boston and way more expensive than anything outside of the city.
New year, new bump. Do any bands still practice at band rooms or is everyone in a tiny basement in Allston now?

Still riding dirty in Everett.
Edit: Everett Music Complex, short walk from Wellington Station. It's a bunch of rooms in the second level of 2 buildings, with some mixed use space underneath (car body shop, frozen fish transport, etc). If anyone wants the guy's number to call, send me a message. There's no website.
route /rut, raʊt/ Show Spelled [root, rout] Show IPA noun, verb, rout·ed, rout·ing.
noun
1. a course, way, or road for passage or travel: What's the shortest route to Boston?
2. a customary or regular line of passage or travel: a ship on the North Atlantic route.
in·ter·state (ntr-stt)
adj.
Involving, existing between, or connecting two or more states.
n.
One of a system of highways extending between the major cities of the 48 contiguous United States.
Especially since you linked a wikipedia page where the first word under the picture is "ROUTE" information.
Ninjatard fail.
Also, I am not creepy at all, and have lots of nice rooms for very fair prices. These rooms are great! - the lack of heat is made up for by an abundance of random body fluids.
The rivers edge is long since gone by the boards and was shut down by the code inspector years ago. The city won't allow another rehearsal place within its borders because of it.

Sick. Ever practiced there? Is it legit storage area? If so, are they cool with blasting death metal coming out? Are there spaces big enough for parties?
Don't live near there, just wondering as I've heard of practice / storage spaces before and always wondered how it works.

Place is the worst. Vaettir practiced there from 2008-2009. Over $300 a month for a room with no windows/heat/ventilation. Management will randomly go in your space when you aren't there and leave love notes about a couple empty beer bottles. Lots of elitist metalcore faggotry in surrounding rooms.
Lol'd so hard at this. I remember cleaning up the Pigeon Shit Room in old priority, where they had the cranberry conveyor belt dealy that had a death toll. So. Many. Dead. Shitty. Pigeons.
Yeah, I took lessons with Jake and had a shitty practice room in like 2001 when I was in highschool. Some of my fondest memories are in that old, dilapidated warehouse that served as a place for a bunch of crappy ska/metal/hardcore bands to practice in. Once, we knocked down the wall of our practice room dicking around, behind it was a staircase. In this little weird basement tomb, there was an underwater passage way and an Urkel mobile. No joke.

( located with dead storage, this place is super secure, keyless entry, massive surveillance, and.... Really expensive rooms at 425$ a month. Heat and a/c and electric included)

Band #1: practiced at my drummer's basement in Preston, CT at first, now practices in his grandmother's basement in Sudbury, MA.
Band #2: had our first few practices at the Funky Jungle in Providence when the drummer was living there. Has since practiced in an office type room of the warehouse he works at on the Pawtucket/Attleboro line.
Paying zero dollars and zero cents for a place to play rules.

I can vouch for the Urkel mobile, since my old band used to practice in one of the rooms that bordered the hallway leading to that fucking creepy, abyssal basement. There was a jet engine graveyard down there too; also found what looked like an interrogation room. It was partitioned off in some corner with nothing but a light bulb hanging from the ceiling and a shitty old chair.

Accurate description is accurate. I think Charlie and his wife are born-agains. Fuck them.

Our band recently moved out of morgan's because of the conditions at the advice of another band who moved, and because morgan's was kicking us out at 11PM and not letting us load back in after gigs. We are now further south at Music Mills in chelmsford and only paying $290 for a pro space without the troubles.
I have just made an agreement with three places to rent rooms out.. I have my place in Worcester 4 blocks up the street from Worcester Palladium. I have Vital Remains Old Practice space now and rooms close by available for rent also Bay State Gym in Worcester, MA
There are currently two rooms still available in the complex where we rehearse in Chelmsford to rent by the month. It is by far the cleanest and most secure of any we have rented in so we recommend it highly. Here are the links:
So would you guys be interested in adding a 7th band to that roster? I know Renick, Mark, and Alex, and probably have met more at shows drunk at one point or another, if that even matters.
So yeah, our landlord just got arrested for having 7 pounds of weed shipped USPS to either our building in Whitman or the facility in Hanson. Any thoughts on whether the cops are gonna raid our building and trash the shit out of the gear I just bought?
probably not hahah...its hard to find free days to practice as it is
The room sharing is a problem, and beside the fact that you have to work around everyone elses schedule, and your gear gets ripped off by your roomates. It isn't worth the measely amount of money you save going through all the trouble. I know Boston rates are rediculously high and thats why everyone is forced to share, but we only pay $290 a month for own huge space in Chelmsford and will never share again. Here's the link again to where we are Rehearsal Complex

Thanks for the info, owner of that practice space.

Great link that drives the point home about how selective you need to be about the jam space you end up in http://rehearsalspace.wordpress.com
Come to priority in whitman! They'll collect rent and forget to lock your door! Then they'll steal shit out of your drawers! You wanna play in the middle of the winter with no heat? You've come to the right place. You want the power on your side of the building to go out? Look no further. Spacious rooms at DISCOUNT prices. Come on down, faggets!

This link everyone should read before spending the doe, especially about the security aspects of it which is detailed very well.
Everything rang so true about our old rehearsal space after reading this blog, that we did what it said and found a much better situation. Goodbye to stolen gear, shitty dirty rooms, shady characters and jerks everywhere, and how about cleaning the toilets once a year?
