New site? Maybe some day.

Ok, I hear every body talking about Anathema (not bad) and Opeths softer album (ok stuff). It seems to be the "soft stuff" for metal heads.
But I wonder if an awsome Metal band were to do some light stuff with some "flavor" (if you will) like a Flamenco or Middle eastern feel, would they bother buying. I guess what I'm trying to say is that the soft stuff geared to Metal heads are sometimes rather boring. But thats just me.
I'm ready for the flying shit. |

... i doubt you have heard Anathema's "Silent Enigma" album. thats their last metal album. but yeah... i dont see how Anathema or even Opeth's "Damnation" is geared torwards metal people. its just soft music. thats all, a lot of metal people listen to those releases because of the band's previous history as metal bands, thats all. you can um... listen to flamenco if you want to hear flamenco or middle eastern music if you want that middle eastern feel. music doesnt need to be all over the place to be good. speed is just endurance, good songwriting is skill. sort of like i would say that Michael Romeo is a better all around guitarist than Yngwie Malmsteen because Romeo can shred (not as fast as Malmsteen) and he makes WAY more enjoyable music. not that Malmsteen's music is bad... its just not as creative. just because you can play fast, doesnt mean you're a better musician/just because a song is fast, doesnt mean its a better song. people need to start listening to the music so they can feel the emotion that is being portrayed by the song. to each his own i guess, but half the people i know dont really get the whole purpose of the most of the music that they are listening to. like, "i only care about lyrics" type of people. they make me sick. |

i agree with you there. i like all kinds of softer stuff, whether it's done by a metal band or not, if it's good, it's good. to the dude who originally posted this thread, check out jeff buckley if you aren't already familiar with him. some of his stuff is similar to the damnation album and some of katatonia's softer songs.

buckely was (rip) the man...if you like him there is a better band than that that i grew up with from this area that blow him out of the water...check out my favorite non metal band mr. virtigo. this guy has an amazing voice and the band rocks.

well put steve-dave! |
|
I was listening to an older manchester band lumina yesterday, if you can handle a soft tool, its good for relaxation |
|
That Opeth disc was ok, but I could just listen to Pink Floyd's Atom Heart Mother instead. Anathema hasn't really done anything of worth since Serenades, at least in my eyes. |
|
you guys should really check out the band mogwai...
AIM me and I'll try to get you a link so you can download the track "like herod" which is one of my favorite tracks of all time.
other than that, agalloch the mantle |

... whoaaaaaaaaaa. I personally dont like pre-Silent Enigma Anathema at all. their music has so much more feeling and is a lot more enjoyable now. Judgement is so good. |
|
Yeah I'm just a fan of Anathema's early doom beginnings. Mogwai isn't bad for post rock, but when compared to bands like Isis (who they toured with), they don't really compare. You'd probably like Sigur Rós if you like Mogwai, and Godspeed! You black emperor as well. |
|
yes I do. gsybe holds a tender spot in my heart.
I've seen them 2x |
|
Are you into any bands on hydrahead, neurot, or southern lord? |
|
mogwai and sigur ros are wicked pisser. |
|
ep.. I replied to this!
I wonder where it went.
some hydrahead, but the harder stuff.
and neurot stuff is ok... I just always expect them to be orgasmic and I'm always a little let down. |

|
Ours is great for non-metal as well. |
