rttp has been a fucking void of thought.
I thought this video had a number of good points. It reinforced some conventions and ideas i have (alot of people have) about how and why the system operates. There is nothing new here as far as detail, thought and fact, but the articulation and clarity is most valuable.
The only way we can experience another "Renaissance" per se, is to have a mass-awakening. 99.9% of people (in this country, it seems) are oblivious to the world around them, and cannot fathom much beyond what lies or propagandized bullshit they are fed.
Although the Renaissance 500+ years ago was mostly in regards to spiritual enlightenment and a connection to "God", people banded together for a common cause, which solely revolved around knowledge and expanding horizons. As science started becoming more advanced, these two extremities - religion and science - became conflicted, as they both raised questions for each other. A good example of this would be what happened to Galileo Galilei.
Anyways, enough rambling.. tldr;
To make a long story short, humanity must move beyond faith-based way of thought, and put more concentration in the world of Science, History, and Art. Things are different now, but we must be willing to consciously accept humanity for what it is, and embrace what true virtues we have left.
I don't have much hope for our species, and a 21st Century Enlightenment seems fairly implausible; that is, unless there's some sort of outside force driving us to band together. Extraterrestrial invasion or GTFO
the renaissance wasn't the renaissance you think it was. they were complaining about the same bullshit people complain about now. especially twitter. Remembering history is selective. For ever Renaissance MAN, there were 10000 nameless faceless bodies writhing in the streets, sleeping in filth and ejaculating into each other.

As a whole i think a faith-based thought has been terminated in "western culture." Yes there is still some faggotry in sensitive issues like abortion in America, but on a macro scale it is being diminished. I think the problem is more along the lines of the education system doesn't meet the needs of the people now a days.
middle east is fucked for at least another 2011 more years.
case study: high school taught me how to read and right. But it didn't prepare me for shit, all my learning has been on my own. I had to become responsible for my own education.* this was a very good thing for me, but doesn't say much for the system.

Indeed, not everything is as pretty as one would imagine.
But from a historical perspective, there is no question that WESTERN civilization experienced a breakthrough of thought during the Renaissance.
In school, kids are taught history from a Western Perspective, rather than a neutral or complete perspective. We barely teach our kids about Chinese history, Indian History, or anything that is outside of Western Civ. You usually have to take electives in college to learn about that stuff.
The kids are brainwashed from a young age. We are taught that the "Dark Ages" were "dark" - but if you really sit and think about it, they tell us that because Christianity had not completely spread through Europe yet.
The peaks of Civilization seem to come in waves, and to me at least, religion hinders progress during each wave. It seems we are nearing a steep decline in humanity's progress, even though technology has increased 10000000x in the past 20 years.
Mental progression is hindered by the surroundings and environment.. those who control the surroundings and environment control the masses.
There are select few individuals on this planet that are above any law or president and money means nothing to them.
I didn't get much from it, and didn't make the connections. Mind elaborating?
I'm reading some book my friend gave me a while back about it and it preaches about One-ism or a complete connection with the world and everything in it as form of enlightment. maybe the connection is not very strong to this video but it reminded me of the feelings i got from reading the book. i forget the name of it but i'll post it later.

Russian, Chinese, and Indian history should be taught alongside Western history. They are all almost completely isolated examples of what works and what doesn't and living in a post-globalist, post-industrial society those examples are more valuable than ever. Russia was almost completely isolated from western Renaissance ideas because of the Old Muscovite ideology (nationality, Orthodoxy, xenophobia) that collapsed under it's own weight when Lenin came into the picture, but even after communism it still lingers as Russian identity. Western history just uses a different set of ideals (colonization, Christianity, capitalism) and it still lingers just the same.

Agreed. I sincerely think our education system needs a serious reform. It's something a mandatory test won't fix. We need to redesign what we learn, and at what age. Sadly, I think history is usually not seen as "important" as say, mathematics or biology. But from history, we can learn more about ourselves and as you said, what fails and what works.
It just seems that they aren't being taught the whole picture.

so... let me get this straight...
7,000 years ago (when God created man) til 10,000BC = nothing
10,000BC = some pyramids were built but we learned nothing
10,001BC to 30AD = nothing
31AD = built a city, killed a jew
32AD-1200 = nothing
1201-1349 = everything good was created even tanks
1350-2011 = steady diet of nothing

I think that you are incorrect. Like I said, the huddled masses are always huddle masses living in filth. The fact that you can remember 10 people out of 1/2 billion that live/died in the Renaissance means nothing. The fact that there were 10 exceptional people, there were 499,999,990 people that knew nothing, wallowed in shit, and didn't know what a chinese was.
Now-a-days with 6+ Billion people, the number of people not only as smart but way smarter than the 10 Renaissance men that you remember is in the millions. The average person knows a hell of a lot more than the average person from the 1300's.
If you really think that we are in metal stagnation, run some things by your kids and you will see them achieving math 5 years younger than you did. When I was in kindergarden, we were learning not to shit our pants and cry or how to make palm-print turkeys. Now, they learn simple multiplication.
Indeed, not everything is as pretty as one would imagine.

LOL, that doesn't even garner a response....
....fuck it.
I will start off with a metaphor. I'm sure kids in Kindergarten these days know what similes, metaphors, and alliterations are, right? Knowledge is nothing but a snowball. A snowball going down hill. As the snowball continues to roll down the hill and as time passes, the snowball (knowledge) gets bigger and bigger.
Aside from your dates of the Renaissance being dead wrong, you're misconstruing and misunderstanding what I was saying. With all due respect good sir, knowledge and technology has been constantly expanding. There are certain points in WESTERN history that knowledge (snowball) sped up in leaps and bounds.
RENAISSANCE - "the period of European history at the close of the Middle Ages and the rise of the modern world; a cultural rebirth from the 14th through the middle of the 17th centuries. rebirth: the revival of learning and culture"
WRENAISSANCE - "the end of the world. Period."
I'm speaking in cultural terms and relating it to Western Civ. The Middle/Medieval Ages were no doubt a period of time when science and technology reached a low point. After the fall of the Roman Empire and the introduction of Christianity, Europe was left in shambles for a bit. Outside of the Romans destroying the cultural identity of countless cultures , they failed in the sense of not finishing the job. The Dark Ages - as we know it today - was a transition period for Western Civ. It was a molding point in the history of Europe, and ultimately led to the Middle Ages: a age dominated by religion, rather than science. An age dominated by land squabbles, power struggles, and the like. Hell, we didn't even have gun powder yet and had to take it from the Turks, who took it from the Chinese.
The Renaissance represents a change of thought and the rebirth of Western Civ. The advances in science in the Renaissance far out weigh that of the Middle Ages. Ask any person who enjoys reading a history book about the cultural impact the renaissance had on western civ. and to think, they were heavily inspired by the ancient Greeks, arguably the founding fathers of the Western thought.

translation: everyone learns the same thing which means metal stagnation, no risk taking and no new learning. You need deviation to find out the exceptional. The poor should crash on it's own.
Most of history is nothing but a cool fictitious story, bro. Most of the time, people need to learn that if you lean up against a stove, you fucking burn yourself. Does a much better job that 100 stories about someone in the past leaning up against a stove and burning themselves.
Throughout all Species of any flavor, the population out breeds it's environment and then is limited by the environment. Humans are no different. Those more adapt survive these Species limiting events. So next time there is a Black Plague, the smart and the strong survive, the unclean, weak, infirm, stupid die off. Until then, enjoy paying your welfare taxes for the stupid to keep breeding.
Just watched the first video. He makes some valid points.
I just don't see any way of attaining this "enlightenment" . The world is fucked at this point.

Two points,
1) As a high-IQ wolf with a professional interest in wanksterbating, I recommend reading Hobbes' Leviathan in a creamy taco sauce.
2) My experience as a rear admiral in the Queen's fleet has shown me that since the Dark Ages, knowledge and technology have been used mainly to enrich certain populations at the expense of less fortunate others. Except for some advances in basic hygiene, medicine, and communication that have elevated the plight of the poorest, almost all advances were leveraged by the white upper classes to make their lives better. A cane farmer in Haiti who is dicked over by American farm subsidy policy cannot truly benefit from ANY of the intellectual advances of the last 600 years. Every person on this board who has a car, a place to live, and buys their food at a store even though their job is nonproductive or nonexistent, does it on the backs of less fortunate people who live closer to the equator. Also the Axe-FX is clearly the superior choice for performing and recording musicians.

do they really, midshipman? people find value in life in many environments and situations.
