Basically you got this dude One Eyed, who's pretty cool, he's the man, kills everyone he meets kinda deal. Ends up on boat in Vinland and there you go!

Awesome movie i got it from netflix the other day

This movie floated above any modern sensibilities about "new world"exploration and really got into the psyche of wayward explorers. Amazing cinematography and believable characters. One of the best I saw last year. For everyone that's sick of typical movies with catered scripts and lame plots.

Dug this flick thoroughly.

Added this to my queue this weekend, will definitely check it out based on comments above.

another reason why i liked this movie is that there are no historical romanticized perceptions of anything. no glorified vikings, no pantheon, no sagas, no myth. at the same time, this movie wouldn't have worked if it wasn't about vikings.

haven't seen it, but really interested in it. having a stereotypical metalhead interest in all things viking FTW

you are well aware of my Finntroll love. aside from the new one, it kind of sucks. however Ur Jordens Djup was stellar.

the thing is, i'm patiently waiting to find a better band that has that sound. i've heard this fabled "folk" metal and i haven't heard one that interests me like that. Moonsorrow is close, i'm sure they are "super gay" too, but they still don't have the same jiggy sound, which is what i like.

not to detract from Moonsorrow, they too have some stellar albums. aside from the last EP, that was pretty lame.

Moonsorrow was always a good band. Some of their stuff is "meh" at best, but the majority of it is really epic and good.

Jig metal has ruined folk metal.

Thought this movie was a bit boring until I realized the shit they drank from that jug towards the end was some fucked up psychotropic shit which explains a lot. Oh and realizing the connection between One-Eye getting visions of the future and Odin having given up his eye to peer into the future.

Good movie.
