"An area along the northeast route to the summit has earned the unassuming nickname of "Rainbow Valley", simply because of the multicolored down jackets of the numerous corpses littering the hillside. Even in the harsh conditions of lethal altitudes, corpses can remain for decades, some appearing frozen in time with climbing gear intact."

that article gave me the chills.

don't forget the biggest danger of all:

This is a nice little read. I never thought they'd leave the bodies on the mountain, but also never considered the conditions they'd have to be "rescued" in.

I read this as "abandoned in Everquest" and I had Blackburrow chills.

The mountain has been raped by wealthy white scoundrels who are out to accomplish and conquer. Cubiles dildos and gayfuck salesmen with no (BIG) mountain experience log jam the summit like the ossified bowels of an old man and use indegenous peoples the old fashioned way; as an ends unto themselves. Fuck your colorful organic european 700 powerfill down jacket that in the end could nay compensate for the fact that you just didn't belong there. A hefty price to pay for nothing more than "bully" cocktail talk with the old chums..May the mountain take many more.

Ps: that's *cubicle not cubiles dildos. Alas Cubile's dillys are illmatic.

Keeps the surplus population down.

I dunno......dieing while climbing Mt. Everest seems like a pretty badass way to go out.

toggletoggle post by largefreakatzero at Dec 7,2010 8:04pm
Suppose it beats dying at work. I'm hoping to go out during a massive firefight with the cops or zombie apocalypse.

"The case of Hannelore Schmatz is an infamous one. On October 2, 1979, after a successful summit, and for reasons unclear, she died of exhaustion 100 meters short of reaching Camp IV. For years, any climber attempting the southern route could see her body, sitting, leaning against her backpack with her eyes open and brown hair blowing in the wind. Despite being so exposed and so visible along the well-trodden climbing route, rescue operations are virtually suicidal in the Death Zone. A Nepalese police inspector and a Sherpa who tried to recover Hannelore's body in 1984 both fell to their deaths. It was finally high winds that blew her remains over the edge and down the Kangshung face."

It would be cool to go out like this lady, and just freak everyone the fuck out by just sitting there.

I have been trekking to the base camp ~19,000 ft above sea level. I met some expedition douches with their expensive climbing gear and conquistador attitudes. I was not impressed, seeing as how I trekked about 90 miles in 3 days wearing converse all stars

People should only climb Everest if they really come prepared and know what they're doing.

And, also, why does Everest get all the attention? K2 is nearly as tall, yet no one talks about it.

Sponsored by Avis Rent-A-Car, K2 is right up there with Garfunkel, Messina, Oates.
