If we were to compare the music world to the world of food, bury your dead would be regurgitated tofu

they should change their name to bury the sausage

toggletoggle post by Joe/NotCommon   at May 5,2004 7:14pm
They should change their name to The Expressions of a Falling Star, and then someone should stab them to death.

toggletoggle post by bostonhardcore at May 5,2004 8:57pm
not everyone gives 2 shits about wankin guitar solos

remember mosh and roll baby, mosh and roll
-the one chord song song by bury your dead where the band name is repeated 20 times in a row- FUCKING GENIOUS

Bury your dead is just stupid. I fail to see why kids latch on to this band they are like the next slipknot only id rather be surrounded by slipknot fans because these nu hardcore kids are fucking lame Their cd is good for a laugh, and its true bury your dead really has no talent. Just litsen to the riffing its like a 3 year old got a hold of a drop C tuned guitar and hit the open notes the entire time. Im not a fan of the band exhumed but for christ sakes just litsen to the bands, bury your dead fails. At least exhumed does more then hit open breakdowns and two step. I wish hardcore had the intesity that many bands had a while ago. Thats why hardcore should just die out metal contains everything hardcore has and does it about 10000000000000000 times better. Not to mention these "hardcore" bands just rip most metal bands off.

here is another genius. Guitar solos when done right totally add to the music its showing that they can actually play their guitar. Have you even heard bands like Death? or necrophagist?? For fucks sake instead of bashing "solos" why dont you take the time to litsen to those bands and understand how much emotion and talent are put into the riffing.

I bet you're not from boston. and you obviously aren't that hardcore if you are sticking up for BYD. the REAL hardcore kids I know think they suck and would rather listen to shit like 100 demons.

toggletoggle post by bostonhardcore at May 6,2004 10:02pm
ya i know who death is i use to listen to metal but got bored with it cause it was boring to me and the shows were boring. and no im not one of those trend hardcore fruits, im more for old school hardcore and stuff influenced by that. i do like alot of the new stuff too like bleeding through, unearth, hamartia, glass casket, between the buried and me etc and they do stuff alot better than a lot of metal bands do and yes i am from boston

toggletoggle post by Hoser at May 6,2004 11:35pm
Hamartia is no longer dude, get over it.

despite the fact that I agree 900% that Bury the Dead is pretty lame (and I like hardcore, too) I will defend the fact that hardcore is supposed to be simple. Much like Punk was a response to social pressures such as the ubiquity of pop music (disco, etc) or the working class oppression (like in England), Hardcore was a response to the technicality and complexity of punk. Things were too complicated and too far detached with punk and kids stripped it down, took out the solos they couldn't hack, and then made it what it is -- simple music about basic things that affect everyday people. Instead of songs like Ziggy Stardust or Lou Reed, Hardcore sought to challenge these layered, complex players and come up with three-chord, fast, punchy tunes. You should be able to play old school hardcore 3-4 months into learning guitar - some of it you should be able to play the day you pick it up. Older punk was like that too, but it got too complicated.

So with old school hardcore, yeah, simple is better, and on point, catchy, honest, and basic lyrics are a must. But with newer hardcore -- which was sort of missing-linked by bands from New York and partially the west coast (like Strife) -- you get that metal influence, which was ever-growing, becoming almost a norm today.

This is a truncated history but bottom line is if you look at Gorilla Biscuits, Bad Brains (who actually, for some reason, got more technical as they drifted from Hardcore into dub and reggae), Minor Threat, Black Flag, etc you see how not only easy it is to write the music and play it, but how down to earth the lyrics are.

So saying a hardcore band writes easy songs is kind of redundant, in a way. But you can be unacceptable or even "bad" or "poor" in someone's opinion. Bury The Dead is like that for me -- they don't strike a chord with me, so to speak. They're just...blah. Yet I can't attack them for not making the music filled with solos and tech parts.

I quote Civ when I say: "Stage dives make me feel more alive / than coded messages / in slowed down songs". Despite the fact that my band has coded messages. In slowed down songs. And we don't really play on a stage...fuck those dudes, huh?

it's kind of ignorant to call byd a hardcore band don't you think?
