looks decent. most of his movies have been lackluster as of late but this may be the one that brings him out of his hole.

you see toph in this one, but she looks like a girlie girl and not a tough girl.

I have absolutely no clue how they are going to fit all 3 books into one movie.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jun 22,2010 11:44am
oh, I don't think that was toph. I Think that was one of the northern water girls that sokko falls for. Toph blocks the fire at the beginning of this one

They're not. There's going to be 3 movies.

The cartoon always seemed gay, but this actually looks good. They got me at the "In 3D" part.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jun 27,2010 9:52pm
The cartoon ruled.

"Based on the hugely successful Nickelodeon animated TV series, the live-action feature film “The Last Airbender” is the opening chapter in Aang’s struggle to survive."
awesome, but I hope they get the same actor/director for all. Also this one shows toph fighting the firenation, but that didn't happen til book 2.

Drewblood was telling me about how Asian people are freaking out over it being white folk in the lead roles.

I, for one, an unphased. As much as I hate M.Knight, the trailer made this movie seem interesting even though I know nothing about this comic.(the trailer with him in a temple on a cliff with ships and ships pulling up around it)

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jun 27,2010 10:29pm
those are air temple... I think the coolest air temples are in the 3rd book when zuko comes to find them.

Man,no wonder people who haven't seen the cartoon are hating on this movie so harshly. M. Night did an excellent job making it exactly like the cartoon. All the characters act just like they did in the cartoon. This translates terribly into real people. Makes them all stiff and awkward. There are also a crap load of times in the cartoon where people just speak their emotions. Like when they are scared or sad just for one scene. Doesn't work well for real people. Real people just need to act scared and not say "I'm scared". Tons of the scenes from the movie were taken directly from the cartoon including weird angles. I loved this cause I could see why it was like that. Like the monk running up the stairs, Yue becoming Tui, etc...
They also glossed over and crammed in too much. This should have been a longer movie. The only thing is that in the cartoon, book one, they also glossed over a ton of stuff.

the 3D was useless. Don't see it in 3D. there is no point. Save the money and mail it to me.

It added absolutely nothing to the movie and the movie experience except for the cost.

My one criticism (besides who they cast for katara and sukka the only non-eskimos in the tribe? wtf!) is that I didn't like the way they showed the avatar state at the end. Hell, I don't think they even said "avatar state". He's suppose to be come one with the ocean spirit. They didn't show the ocean spirit out of it's fish form.

my conclusion is if you liked the cartoon, go see it. If you don't like japanized cartoons, don't see it. I high suggest that everyone goes and watches the cartoons first and then see the movie.

movies are movies cartoons are cartoons if someone made a movie exactly like a book then it would be shit... same goes for this

Aaron: You've written the only positive review of this movie in existence.

I have yet to see the cartoon and probably never will. Same goes for the movie. Did the cancel the 2nd and 3rd movies yet?

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jul 3,2010 5:03pm
i wouldnt call it positive. loving the cartoon, i liked this. but it's acted and written just like the cartoon.

toggletoggle post by zenerik nli at Jul 3,2010 5:12pm
Understood. I know a lot of people that love the cartoon. I just have such a backlog of other ones to get to that I might forget about Avatar: The Last Airbender when I finally have time for it.

A pretty awesome trilogy of live action movies based on manga (not quite the same as a Nick cartoon) would be 20th Century Boys. The story is ridiculously awesome. But the movies are not particularly high budget.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jul 3,2010 6:02pm
i loved the last airbender cartoon. after i watched them, i wanted to watch the dragonball z's cause i was hoping it was similar.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jul 6,2010 9:49pm

toggletoggle post by Boine nli at Jul 6,2010 10:37pm
The cartoon is good but I can't see a whole season as a movie being good but has to be better then the dragon ball movie that was nothing like the early dragon ball at all

I just finished watching the cartoon series yesterday. I must say, one of the best animated shows I've seen in a while, especially since its a kid's show. Plus the music was badass.
