neither does a life once lost, anonymous fag.

or bhbs

I'd say A life once lost pulls it off better than that band. But Textures defeats all other Meshuggah clones. At points this Solipsist band sounds off, but in a bad way. Might be cool if they just took an influence from Meshuggah, but this is just blatant worship.

A life once lost is a poor mans / hardcore kids meshuggah, and half the riffs are exact meshuggah rip offs minus fredericks solo's.

what's wrong with the 2 members of solipsist fucking around excersising their meshuggah influence I mean worship? kevin's been playing drums for like 2 or 3 years.. and rob has been playing guitar for like 5 or 6 now. I know for a fact rob can play other rediculous shit besides the meshuggah type. (see iranach).

why are you so threatend by solipsist that you had to bother making a thread about it?

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Apr 29,2004 9:39am
tom, you going to their direty basement show on may 14th?

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Apr 29,2004 9:40am
it's also funny that someone with the nick alol is pointing the meshuggah copying finger at solipsist.

Funny you say ALOL is a poor mans Meshuggah and that Solipsist is just fucking around with their "influence". I'd say ALOL's new disc is beyond anything nu-core kids could comprehend. Both bands rip off Meshuggah: fact. ALOL even goes as far as stealing Thordendal's lead style, but they sound pretty tight to me. You can't bash ALOL and then tell me this Solipsist isn't guilty of the same thing. They're ALOL minus some of the leadwork and no vox. Both bands even use 6 strings, which might explain why they both have weak tones in trying to emulate Meshuggah's.

HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHHAHAHAHA this is just funny. I think the point of this thread is leave this style to the people who do it best: Meshuggah. It's about time someone made fun of all their clones.

Meshuggah > Textures > A Life Once Lost > Solipsist

I guess you could threw Scarve in there somewhere as well.

toggletoggle post by attendmyrequiem @ school at Apr 29,2004 9:58am
Might I add that Solipsist wouldn't have been half as bad if they didn't turn New Millenium Cyanide Christ into a complete waste. They also lack the key parts to Meshuggah that require more than two people: the eerie element and the solos. Which means they are just a bunch of chugs that lead to nothing. and if they are just fucking around why go as far as, let's say naming your band.

BHBS is less a Meshuggah rip off than a Candiria rip off with a difference in guitar tone.

why does everyone like meshuggah so much?? i had their none ep about 10 years ago almost maybe 8 or 9 and it was cool. but then their later cds kind of sucked and now there new shit is very NU metal. come to think of it the none ep is kind of nu metal sounding

toggletoggle post by Joe/NotCommon   at Apr 29,2004 10:31am
Don't worry Josh, I hate Meshuggah too.

toggletoggle post by Mike_FOD at Apr 29,2004 10:35am
Haha I don't know how anyone listening to Meshuggah could ever think that was nu metal, but hey if they are? Consider me the biggest nu metal fan then. Meshuggah > any other band named.

toggletoggle post by sitroMmuidOeD  at Apr 29,2004 10:41am
"Nothing" is sub-par. "True Human Design" is where it's at.

toggletoggle post by attendmyrequiem @ school at Apr 29,2004 10:46am
Yes Meshuggah is nu-metal! I'm gonna go buy a Coal Chamber shirt and wear size 5000 jeans. I quit real metal if this is the truth.

Size 5000, what're you, anorexic? You need at least size n+1² to be nu.

oh come on devin... why are you being so harsh on solipsist? I'll tell you dude, rob can outplay me anyday and he's been playing for like 4 years less. he's probably studied meshuggah more than both of us combined, and can pretty much play chaosphere all the way through on drums and guitar last time i heard?

keep in mind devin, solipsist is one guitarist, and one drummer. Obviously it's going to be chugs that lead to nothing. You should try out for lead guitarist if you think they need solo's... :P

the new stuff they will be writing will probably incorporate more iranach-ish riffs, fuckin nasty stuff. maybe it will shut you guys up.

toggletoggle post by RustedAngel at Apr 29,2004 11:19am
also, rob asked me to try out... though i have porphyria going, but i honestly don't think i could keep up with the kid.

toggletoggle post by attendmyrequiem @ school at Apr 29,2004 11:55am
I'm trying hard to be a complete ass with this, but how the hell is iranach and solipsist better than porphyria? iranach is probably the worst gutteral death i've heard come out of new england (and yes, i've heard shading the end). Who can't play devourment riffs? And being able to play chaosphere is a stretch. He didn't even get past the first section of the song without fucking the tempo of the song up. I'm not saying I'd do it any better by any means, but why taint an amazing song with the inability to play it!?

toggletoggle post by attendmyrequiem @ school at Apr 29,2004 11:58am
I could never do a Meshuggah song justice, so I'd never attempt it. If I did, I'd expect worse things than negative feedback on the RTTP.

toggletoggle post by RustedAngel at Apr 29,2004 12:14pm
you'd have to watch rob in a live situation, and you should have especially seen him play live in iranach... the vocals were not my style but the music was.

their recordings don't do them justice seriously.

toggletoggle post by RustedAngel at Apr 29,2004 12:15pm
besides, they are two berkley students that happen to be friends with rev and want to play a few shows here and there.. nothing wrong with that.

Only thing that will shut me up is Meshuggah's Catch 33, whenever it comes out. They're the true owners of staccato riffing.

Attention: Fredrik Thordendal called...

Said he wants his riffs back.

solipsist is not a serious band. our music is just for personal enjoyment. we've played 2 shows in our 2 year existence. this band is not something we dedicate ourselves to. therefore it doesn't bother me that people are hacking up our songs. when it comes down to it, yes it is 100% Meshuggah influenced. i don't care, it's fun as fuck to play. it definitely sounds weak with no bass or vocals, but we're just fucking around.

there is one thing i would like to clear up though... we didn't play NMCC on the radio (we played it while setting up to check the mic levels). it wasn't broadcast on the radio. i just looked at the drummer and said "play new millenium cyanide christ at 120" and we just did it for the fuck of it, then he sped up the click track about half a minute in and we kept going through the end cuz we hadn't played it in so long. the drummer honestly hadn't played that song in over a year.

my question for you all is... why make a big deal out of nothing? like them or not debating this is kind of pointless. esp. considering that the conversation is going no where fast.

let them have fun playing whatever they like.
there is no need to criticize anyone on music playing ability because you might never know how talented they are until they play up to there full potential.

toggletoggle post by Paul FOD at May 11,2004 5:31pm
IF shading the end was that bad why do i still get merch orders and positive reviews from the wunh demo?

toggletoggle post by anonymous at May 11,2004 6:11pm
rob you the man, fuck these guys

toggletoggle post by anonymous at May 11,2004 6:19pm
