Comes out Tuesday.

I won't be buying/playing it for a while. Got too much school shit to do and if I start playing it, I won't stop most likely. Getting good ratings. Apparently very linear for a good portion of the beginning. Graphically, looks amazing.

GoW next week, too!

Nope.

I pre-ordered, but I'm expecting it to be as disappointing as FFXII. Fun battle system with a completely forgettable story. That was FFXII to me.

never played FF games exept the SNES ones. all i know is the commercials for this game are ridiculously annoying.

toggletoggle post by Martins   at Mar 7,2010 7:07pm
Ya the main plot to XII was pretty lame but as a GAME it absolutely ruled.

I've heard that XIII's story is contrived but that the you get attached to the characters easily.

Martins: Another Square Enix game, The World Ends With You is similar to XII in the same way. Half decent story with awful dialog but probably the most addictive JRPG battle system I've ever played.

it looks like they killed the FF franchise and made a girl powered kareoke game out of it.

Ya, I have that game in the drawer of the desk I'm sitting at. Haven't played it yet because I'm still playing FFXII: Revenant Wings. First tactical RPG I've ever played. Unless you count the war sequences in Suikoden games.

FFVIII had the same reaction as FFVII.

classic.

i played through ff7 like 7 times when i was 12 and 13. looking back, i don't regret it. played it differently everytime. my last time through was my "do it all, max it all out" run. my main materia was all maxed, i had all the master materia, killed the weapons, got every final limit break, got everyone to max level, gold chocobos... everything.

ff8 wasnt nearly as good and i never beat it despite being on the last disc right before the last boss bottle. my disc got smashed. never played it again. i played triple triad online a lot though after.

ff6 is the best. 5 was neat. never played 4. or 2, or 1.

never played ff9. it looked really gay.

ff10 was... spectacular sort of. never ended up beating that one because i got tired of it.

ff12 was pretty neat and i got about 14 hours in and got really tired of it.

im assuming 13 is going to be the same way.

and if anyone wants to say that i have ADD issues... i put like 20 hours on chrono trigger, my first time actually playing it ever, in like 4 days back in november. it's not me, it's just the quality of game.

XII for me was like, oh so that was the last boss? I didn't use any guides or do any power leveling, but I still beat the final boss on my first try without it taking a long time. Top that off with the forgettable story, and I can't remember anything about that game except the main character being named Vaan.

Yeah the last boss was a let down. I spent the majority of the game doing side-quests and only went and did the story when I felt like watching a nasty-ass cutscene.

Look, Chrono Trigger was a great game but I seriously don't get how people think it was THE BEST RPG. There are other games that are at least equal to it. Martins, CT is one of the top 5 RPGs of all time. Maybe you don't like because you were a little kid when it came out, and CC was out when you were more
mentally mature. Only saying this because most younger people don't understand or appreciate the signifigance of games released at a time when they weren't an active video gamer.

Me neither. I leave mine at home. Had spring break last week. Had planned to play either Bayonetta or the two Assassin's Creed II DLCs but ended up buying Grandia (an old Dreamcast/PS1 RPG) on the PSN and playing that all week. Didn't beat it before the end of break so now I'm left hanging. GREAT game though. Battle system reminds me of Tales of Phantasia for SNES or the original Star Ocean for SNES.

I think Lufia II is one of the most underrated RPGs ever.

toggletoggle post by arktouros at Mar 9,2010 9:30am
"FFXIII is ambitious and daring, not to mention gorgeous and energetic. It approaches the concept of "role-playing games" with ruthless pragmatism, lopping off hunks of RPG tradition like a doctor operating on a terminally gangrenous patient. Traditional towns are too difficult to manage in light of the demands of current technology and art design? Whack -- they're gone. Free-roaming exploration too difficult to implement properly? Chop -- there goes the nonlinearity. Micromanaging turn-based combat bogs down the pacing of battles? Snip -- let the AI handle it."

http://www.1up.com/do/reviewPage?cId=3178230

they gave it an A- but the linearity and strictly story, combat, story, combat gamestyle really turns me off. i'll buy it when it's $10.

Well I generally play them for the stories as well but I figure that it has to have a halfway interesting battle system for me not to get completely bored with it. On the flipside, if the story sucks and the battle system rules, I generally won't want to play it. Case in point: Star Ocean III. What a fucking shitty game.

ZSNES is the best SNES emu
Kega Fusion is the best all in one SEGA emu(master, mega, cd, game gear, 32x)
ePSXe 1.5/1.6/1.7 are the best psx emus. Most people use those 3 versions, all with the same plug-ins, because some games work better with the different builds. For example when I tried to play RE2 on 1.7 the sound was all fucked up but when I loaded it in 1.6(same plug-ins and video settings) it worked beautifully.

My emulation knowledge is about 5 years outdated.

its still not 100%. a lot of games can be played perfectly... some still have little quirks that don't come through the emulation process too well but don't really mess up overall gameplay. some just suck. it depends on the game. Legend of Dragoon for instance... pretty solid. Destruction Derby 2? sort of fail. no music, which is like the best part. not to mention slow down like whoa and my comp is easily way more powerful than a ps1 was.

There's a save every 2 minutes and you only control one person in battle. You only have to hit the X button a couple times and the battle is over.

I hope it gets better...It seems like a boring version of Lost Odyssey but with way better graphics.

The story is pretty good so far, but I admit I can only follow some of it. Not sure how much will eventually be explained, and how much is me just being too stupid to get it. I had the same issue with both FF movies, but ironically I followed FF7 and FF8 with no problems.

I agree. This game is terrible. It makes you run on a fixed path with cinematic interludes that have no dialog worth paying attention to ("Moms are tough"), convoluted story that I had to piece together from reading the chapter summaries, and beautiful real-time cinematics of the LAMEST FF characters ever, which is quite an achievement considering the FF character history.

I played it for a couple hours or so and it seems like a demo of a new Final Fantasy battle system, which isn't terrible, just boring as hell. I loved what I played of FF 7, 8, and 9, but this game is just too linear to be called Final Fantasy. Maybe I should play it more?

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at Aug 16,2010 10:52am

Have you ever played the original Wild Arms or Wild Arms II?
Also, If you have a chance, play Golden Sun I&2 for GBA. And if FFT is too slow for you ( game gets really fucking hard) try some easier Tactical games like Ogre Tactics for SNES, Shining Force I&2 for Genesis, or the two Fire Emblem games that came out in America on GBA (highly recommended). I think they have translated roms for other ones but I don't follow that crap anymore.
