"Joe Ptacek was the co-founder and lead singer for Illinois death-metal band, Broken Hope. Formed in the Chicago area in 1998, the band released five albums for Metal Blade Records before disbanding in 2002. The band had recently been discussing reforming. On January 20, 2010, Joe Ptacek died of an apparent self inflicted gun shot. He was 37 years old."

I only saw them once in Providence right after they released Grotesque Blessings and they had a guest vocalist for some reason. Shitty news.

Yep...I was there too..they had some one fillin in. That was the night they let me get on stage to sing the chorus of swamped in gore...fun show... I think that singer told me his original band was numbskull or somthing....Saw them with joe singing when the open for deicide on thier loathing tour i think at the red square in sagus. Never heard of broken hope till then and they kicked ass and i ran out and bought every album i could....

real shitty news....i love broken hope...joe had the sickest gutteral vocals ever!

Feb 19th, 1997 my old Doom Death band A TRAGEDY UNVEILED opened for MONSTROSITY and BROKEN HOPE on the Extremities tour in New London, CT.
