After a good amount of time not listening to metal, I'm ready to get back into it. The last thing I picked up was the new Revocation CD but I haven't given it its due listen yet. Before that, it was the latest Ulcerate release which was pretty darn good.
Have there been any releases lately that are mind-blowingly good?

new Dying Fetus album pretty much got me back into listening to brutal death metal. its SOO fuckin good.

the new Marduk is awesome.

the new Backstreet Boys is pretty good, though not fantastic. There's a couple catchy songs.

Don't ask about other new releases until you spin Existence Is Futile three dozen times.

It's not so much that I missed the releases themselves but I want to know which ones are REALLY worth checking out.
I'm definitely going to get the new Portal. I never got into Portal musically but the atmosphere is otherworldly.
I'll also definitely check out new Marduk because I'm pretty sure I like black metal. I just never listened to that much. Especially not the tr00 stuff. Never liked that stuff, I'm pretty sure.

Bedroom black metal. Burzum. Beyond shitty tin can production.

Burzum definitely isn't bedroom black metal. some of the recording has a dry sound, but just about all of it is produced pretty well. Filosofem, Hvis Lyset Tar Oss, and Det Som Engang Var are put together well. even the self-titled is, but it does have a more raw sound. the rawest one is Aske.

I had Aske and some other one. I remember liking Orc's Cry or something like that.

Stay away from Les Legions Noires bands, I guess.

you know, I downloaded one of their albums for the lolz (and I have a strange "love" for awful music) and listened to it. It's not the worst thing I've ever heard. It's kinda like those grocery store cakes where the frosting is so sugary and sweet that your teeth cringe with every bite, but yet you keep on eating it even though your teeth hate you.
