"Article I, Section 9, of the Constitution, the emolument clause, clearly stipulates: "And no Person holding any Office of Profit or Trust under them, shall, without the Consent of the Congress, accept of any present, Emolument, Office, or Title, of any kind whatever, from any King, Prince or foreign State."

Hahaha.
The thing that strikes me about this, is that if they take the prize away from him, they'll also have to reinstate all our other constitutional rights! But they won't.

We've had to bend this rule before, when the French used to give our Presidents and Diplomats extravagant gifts.

I hope they take it away from him, though.

They would have to take it from President Woodrow Wilson (1920?) who was awarded it during his presidency for forming the League of Nations.

He hasn't done anything close to that.

League of Nations was fail

"without the Consent of the Congress"... Does Congress not consent? That would make my day.

Reading their writings led me to believe that they were indeed geniuses in their own right and that any politician alive today fails in comparison. Doesn't matter what side of the spectrum you're on, the founding fathers were extremely bright.
However, is freedom a failed goal, or is it attainable?
Certainly it's not within our grasp anytime soon, albeit we have it better than a number of other countries.

Not "geniuses", just "not stupid." Seriously, it's like everything they wrote and did was for the COMMON GOOD and involved COMMON SENSE but we don't have that anymore.

toggletoggle post by Martins   at Oct 16,2009 11:17am
Which I suppose would make them geniuses to us now anyway.

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at Oct 16,2009 11:18am

That's not really what I'm saying. I suppose my wordsmithing/coercion needs leveling up but what I'm saying is that, in the modern day, there's no one really thinking the same way they did and that the way they thought isn't really that farfetched and beyond our modern reasoning. They just got it right the first time around and left us to deal with the faggots who would fuck it up.

Granted the country we live in today is completely different than when they wrote the constitution, but I don't see why there should be any negative thoughts about the people who strove to break off from Britain and establish the sovereign nation we live in today. Why you gotta hate on my brothas homie?

I kind of like them, since they brought us what we have today.

Of course, if you covertly hate life... well, then nothing can save you!
