Anyone interest in starting a "doomcore" project? My influences include: Evoken, Bury your Dead, My Dying bride, Despised Icon, As I Lay Dying, The Devil Wears Prada, Shroud of Bereavement, and even stuff like Sunn o))).

lol.

toggletoggle post by arktouros at Sep 23,2009 3:24pm

toggletoggle post by aril at Sep 23,2009 3:24pm
Absolute fail.

toggletoggle post by MikeOv at Sep 23,2009 3:24pm
Wasn't Crowbar once labeled "doomcore"?

toggletoggle post by xmikex at Sep 23,2009 3:25pm
doomed core band is doomed.

toggletoggle post by MikeOv at Sep 23,2009 3:25pm

toggletoggle post by FuckIsMySignature at Sep 23,2009 3:34pm edited Sep 23,2009 3:35pm
retarded. any band with a "core" suffix should be flogged

toggletoggle post by Martins   at Sep 23,2009 3:35pm
I'm starting an Applecore band. Fruity breakdowns.

toggletoggle post by FuckIsMySignature at Sep 23,2009 3:35pm
with worms

toggletoggle post by reimroc at Sep 23,2009 3:36pm
this actually sounds like an interesting style of music but those influences are beyond lulzy.

toggletoggle post by aril at Sep 23,2009 3:37pm
Dronecore sounds awesome.

early sludge acts like crowbar mixed elements of doom and hardcore punk.

it then progressed to me more of a metal/rock style instead of lying on the backbone of hardcore punk.

In a way it's already been done. Take for example All Out War's Truth in the Age of Lies. It definitely contains some aspects of doom. Not that I think they were going for that approach, but the music gets slow and creates a sense of dread (while still making you want want to beat the shit out of people). Cross of Disbelief FTW.

toggletoggle post by DoyleWorldOrder at Sep 23,2009 3:49pm
i dont think it could fail, its easily a genre that could go mainstream

I'm even willing to take it a step further and say that All Out War are far more apocalyptic than a lot of supposed doom bands. I've always detested whiny, sappy, MDB clones and the like. All Out War may be hardcore but they're crushing and torturous, which is far more in alignment with what I personally consider doom.

toggletoggle post by xmikex at Sep 23,2009 4:07pm
The doomy stuff that early All Out War did was straight out of Celtic Frost, early Obituary which wasn't really doom so much as a fascination with slow simple heavy riffs. IMO, that's what later All Out War was missing.

shut the fuck up and go kill yourself.

toggletoggle post by timma at Sep 23,2009 4:21pm
Yep, this is probably the worst idea ever.

You are the weakest link.

toggletoggle post by DoyleWorldOrder at Sep 23,2009 5:06pm
oh i'm sorry, maybe the bands i listed were too talented for u guys? whatever...

toggletoggle post by FuckIsMySignature at Sep 23,2009 5:07pm
ya i wish i had mad skillz like Devil Wears Prada.

Bereavement is good though.

toggletoggle post by aril at Sep 23,2009 5:20pm
this troll is not me, before someone starts accusing me of this. it is strange however that my last name is in that.

NAME YOURSELF

toggletoggle post by largefreakatzero at Sep 23,2009 5:56pm
Fake thread is fake. Nobody could actually like Devil Wears Prada.

Sounds like the problem is that you're listening to UK-style doom/goth bands. I really wouldn't say All Out War were heavier or more apocalyptic than Skepticism, Wormphlegm, Stabat Mater, etc. etc. etc.

toggletoggle post by MikeOfDecrepitude at Sep 23,2009 7:05pm
Uh? It's erroneous to say I'm listening to those bands, after stating my disdain for that style. If I'm going to listen to UK doom, it's going to be Esoteric, Electric Wizard, early Cathedral, etc. All Out War is completely different from the bands you've mentioned. Skepticism is more atmospheric and pondering; they've never tried to sound brutal or filthy. The guitar tones are also quite different, and if I had to pick who has the more... abrasive tone, it's obviously All Out War. Wormphlegm is certainly heavy, but understand that doom doesn't give me that rush of violence, like AoW would. Doom doesn't really make you want to move, as much as it gets under your skin, and initiates contemplation and introspection.

All Out War is akin to getting trampled in a stampede or soccer riot.
Doom, as played by Evoken, is more like watching a gigantic monolith slowly toppling over until it finally crashes down, crushing you beneath it.

just the thought 'doomcore' puts me to sleep

Ah, I got the impression you were comparing All Out War to doom bands in general based on your disdain for a particular type of early UK gothy stuff. I actually like My Dying Bride and the like, but I agree they aren't terribly heavy or foreboding a lot of the time.

Nevermind, anyhow.

toggletoggle post by aril at Sep 23,2009 8:54pm
You don't happen to play bass, do you?

toggletoggle post by MikeOfDecrepitude at Sep 23,2009 8:56pm
Yeah, just the queer MDB clones, bands of that ilk. Doom shouldn't be sappy or weak, or else it fails to be doom, by my defintion. I definitely dig certain MDB albums, early Anathema, and what have you.

toggletoggle post by quintessence  at Sep 23,2009 9:04pm
just listen to Winter

toggletoggle post by MikeOfDecrepitude at Sep 23,2009 9:05pm
I also shouldn't say there isn't some doom that could make me go on a killing spree. Yob, Aldebaran, select tracks from the last Evoken album, certain Corrupted songs. They stand out as being more aggressive examples of the genre.

Obviously. They're fundamental.

toggletoggle post by quintessence  at Sep 23,2009 9:11pm
I always thought they combined doom with a extremely basic deathmetal sound that is kind of "doomcore" I guess. The word "doomcore" makes me want to vomit so whatever. Fun troll thread!

toggletoggle post by Snowden at Sep 23,2009 10:46pm
If I thought this was going to end up sounding like Incantation or Asphyx, I'd say it was a great idea.

if it takes you 5 minutes just to say "my friends" then you can call yourself a doomcore band

toggletoggle post by Yeti at Sep 24,2009 7:20am
if this was to actually happen i'd throw out all of my cds and turn to country.

toggletoggle post by xgodzillax  at Sep 24,2009 2:57pm
one day a few weeks back, smc and i were in our studio and started talking about corrupted. he'd play a chord and hold it out. while doing so he would drink a beer, stretch, do some jumping jacks, drink some more, spin around, and then play another chord. this went on for about 20 minutes. i hit my drums maybe 5 times at the most in those 20 minutes. shit was EPIC. lol

toggletoggle post by mIkeofdeCrePitude at Sep 24,2009 3:14pm
