And how it doesn't exist. GO!

I got a job at the last minute. The company didn't even offer it, they just told me when I was coming in for my first day.

toggletoggle post by Sacreligion at Sep 10,2009 2:46pm
What does that even mean?

I suppose that being in bands and having most nights and weekends unavailable doesn't really help my situation. I sure as shit ain't quitting the only thing I like doing though.

Those two sentences were unrelated. I go to school at Northeastern and we have the Coop Program where you work 6 months out of the year for up to 3 years. The advisors that help you get your resume out there generally give up once july hits. I got an offer from 3M on June 21st or something. That's the last minute part.

The other part is that they already knew that I would have said yes to the offer without even asking which is a sign of the times (or a sign that they knew I got no's from every other company I'd applied to). I know lots of kids who just didn't get jobs this time around.

Ohhh. You should give me your job.

I guess I could whore myself out to 100 fat chicks for $1,000 a piece.

go after anything. gas stations, fast food, retail, those are jobs that you can have way more flexible hours with.

toggletoggle post by Sacreligion at Sep 10,2009 3:17pm
I'm trying to hold out for something that's at least $10 an hour, but I'm pretty much at the breaking point.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Sep 10,2009 3:25pm
as of Sept 27th, I will have been at the same job for 10 years.

toggletoggle post by tylor  at Sep 10,2009 3:27pm

I work at staples and before we got really busy with the back-to-school rush they put up a 'now hiring' sign in the window.....meaning, now hiring temporary help for the BTS season. Its really depressing seeing single moms come in asking to fill out an application, oh and could we work around their schedule they already have 2 jobs and will also need time to go pick their kid up from daycare. Or theres the thugs that come in "yo iz hurd you dogz hirin'?".

Things would be so much simpler if we could just say to them, yes we're hiring, but not you. No it's got nothing to do with the economy, it has everything to do with you being an obvious shitty employee.

people scream at me too, its great. i love when someones just so mad theyre yelling and getting out of control. and you know theres nothing you can do to help them so you just let them vent and keep on yelling. important thing is to never break eye contact. just stare em down and keep quiet until they run out of breath or realize that theyre wrong.

toggletoggle post by BlackoutRick at Sep 11,2009 9:25am
That's the best.

I don't mean to be a downer, but if people are presentable, (That's right, sell out and wear a suit) outgoing, and personable, there are PLENTY of jobs downtown. I know this because the vast majority of my clients are hiring. The thing is that they're being incredibly selective.

I realize how it seems really hard to get a job right now, but you have to realize that the majority of people laid off are people who are middle-aged, have been with their companies for a long time, have expensive benefits, high salaries etc.... obviously their are plenty of exceptions to these rules, i have friends that have been laid off too. I'm just saying that a young adult who is willing to take what they can get can DEFINITELY get a job downtown. Email me if you need help.

i also work at staples and the same thing happens. we don't really have the problem with having to let go of good employees at the end of the BTS season since most of the temp people who are hired are terrible and make my job 10 times harder then it has to be
