Ideallisticlly, I'd like to be able to write out drum parts in guitar pro and export the MIDI and then use some type of software that would convert that MIDI into actually samples that don't sound terrible. It doesn't need to sound amazing, I just want to be able to have more dynamics than with shitty MIDI drums.

I'm not getting Drumkit From Hell so fuck you. I'd like to pirate it if possible but if its cheap and good enough I'll buy it.

WHAT SAY YOU?

EzDrummer and its variants can be used as a plug-in in most recording software. I set (usually DKfH) to play a drum midi and record in the software, with the option to split each sample into separate tracks. After everything's recorded you can go through each track and mix and master it to your pleasure.

DKFH just came out with Metal Foundry. But you need a super computer.

You can get "tabit" and tab the drums out to a certain BPM, that's always easy.

I've always used old tracking programs and did the drums that way.

but then again, you're using this for pop punk and really have no need for dynamic drums

Too bad, because it's exactly what you're talking about. With Superior and Superior 2.0, you realize that you've got multiple UNPROCESSED samples with the ability to mix in the ambient mics however you want, allowing you to mix the drums exactly how you want, not just some preset that will make you sound like everyone else using it. Once you've mixed the kit the way you like, it's just a matter of dropping in your midi parts just like you want to do.

As for Metal Foundry, you really don't need a supercomputer at all. You just need a good amount of RAM, and at least a dual core.

EzDrummer, however, is not exactly what you're looking for. Superior = unmixed dry samples. EzDrummer=Pre mixed kit. Therefore, you will sound like everyone else using that particular ExDrummer pack. Nothing wrong with that, but I just don't see any of the EzDrummer kits being suitable for Black Metal.
