New site? Maybe some day.
Again have fun, wish I was there this year. |
Yes fun will be had! Sad I'm missing complete failure! |
I got greated by a bloodied up sigh member dressed as an angel. this is going to be an awesome day. |
It's really unfortunate that I could not go. I hope you get pics of abscess. I'm sure you'll take pics of pestilence. |
pestilence might not be playing outsie. instead bolt thrower is playing at that time inside. |
Bolt Thrower playing again? Is the rumor true that Pestilence might cancel?? |
BT is playing when pestilence should be on outside so I'm guessing no pestilence. bitter sweet. like wanting black rasberry icecream and someone giving you strawberry icecream instead. you didn't get what you want, but you still get fucking icecream. damn, it's hot. I really want iced cream |
complete failure: - 11:45 - 12:05 good stuff. I was running around since they were the first band and things were off by 15 minutes.
I ran back to my car a met someone from the reee board, carmello.
agenda of swine: - 12:20 - 12:40 they played a more grovey sounding set then I would have expected. The singer spent the last part of their time pacing on the floor. Then sat on the barricade for the last song.
endless blockade, the: - 12:55 - 1:15 wow, these guys were a real surprise. I had no clue about them and they were really good. Weird noises in between each of the songs fron arcane pedals. One of them looked like a rotary phone. A lot of it was all white noise. Plus headbanging while just messing with a noise pedal is hilarious. |
the fact that pestilence will not be playing makes me pretty much entirely happy that i didnt go. |
<3 Endless Blockade....so sick |
Yeah pretty bummed about pestilence but I can't think of anything better then seeing bolt thrower again especialy indoors!! |
And I must say I loved the endless blockade!! So good |
lair of the minotaur: - 1:30 - 1:55 they completely rocked. I thought that the bassist looked exactly like the bassist for demiricus. Then he looked down and waved. It was obviously him.
magrudergrind: - 2:10 - 2:40 new guitar player. They played a really short set and when they were done the entire audience let out a collective noise of disappointment tha were were done. The floor also completely cleared out when they were done. |
<3 Lair of the Minotaur....so sick |
<3 Magrudergrind....so sick |
I think it's the same new one after the hispanic guy.
kill the client: - 2:55 - 3:25 this was like the last time i saw them at 2005mdf and not like the middeast show. The singer was mental and all over the place. The whole set he was either in the crowd or in the photopit or standing on the barricade between them. Made for a rather fun set. There are also a lot of wild texans here so they knew how to party for KTC. They would have been completely disgusting at the practice space. |
<3 Kill the Client....so sick |
icwutudidthar
splitter: - 3:40 - 4:10 from their first slammy slam slam salami, I wanted to go on stage and twist their hats to the side. Serious when they started up they didn't have any slam at all. Fun to shoot live. They are always moving around the stage. They are all about psytoxia and psytoxia is all about them. Match made in heaven. |
BEST THING. chris from ocr just gave me an amputator 12" and a brand new devestator. |
Second that.... |
the fact that pestilence will not be playing makes me pretty much entirely happy that i didnt go. |
Second that... |
im sorry, I couldn't hear you over my seeing bolt thrower twice.
despise you: - 4:25 - 4:55 1 million short songs. Sort of reminded me of some of the blood duster stuff. Well, except for the whole girl talking/singing thing. A lot of people were really psyched up to see them. It was pretty good so im sure they were happy. |
Aside from playing fast, Despise You and Blood Duster aren't really comparable. Still though, that's another band I'm kicking myself for missing. Chris Dodge is playing bass for them too. |
fast songs, short songs. and lots of them.
yakuza: - 5:10 - 5:40 I will be honest that im not really a fan so I was only in for a song maybe 2. But they sounded good and I guess that is all that matters.
red chord, the: - (outside) 5:00 - 5:30 I think a lot of people took this chance to go get lunch because they are too cool to like the red chord and probably claim they never did even though they have a copy of fused together in their collection. Solid set and guy jumped down to the crowd for didy. Some kid yelled into the mic "it's not gonna be all right Yeah!" that was funny. |
BEST THING. chris from ocr just gave me an amputator 12" and a brand new devestator. |
That's funny, I was just ripping the LP into MP3 for my ipod. I got it off of Hell's Headbangers. I'm curious about the Devestator. What is it called?
oh and .... fuck --- I wish I could have made it down there |
it's in my bag. will look later. absu is on now... you should totally kill yourself. |
absu: - (outside) 5:45 - 6:25 they sounded so good. Looked kind of goofy in the daylight. The drummer was the first drummer I've seen with a neck thing on. Some sort of choker.
catheter: - 6:10 - 6:40 heavy stuff, but I think they have had a line up change. The bassist was a huge guy with dreads before.
abscess: - (outside) 6:40 - 7:25 they sounded super sick. This is the second band that I've seen with a drummer sporting a choker. His was cooler cause it said FUCK YOU.
krallice: - 7:10 - 7:40 sounded so much better than the GS show, but the srummer tripped up at least once like I said he did at the gs show. Maybe that's how the song goes. |
ahh welll here is what happ to pestilence Fucken Shitty shit
Upon entering the U.S. and stopping at customs, Patrick Mameli (guitar, vocals) and Patrick Uterwijk (guitar) discovered that the paperwork for their travels, which was sent to them, was not properly completed for the required working visas. Originally they were told all was in order and to proceed on the trip to the U.S.
Mameli and Uterwijk were kept in custody for several hours and sent back to the Netherlands late yesterday.
They spent a total of 44 hours in flights and detainment. |
dave the devastator is called the summoning OCR20 I think. |
antigama: - 8:10 - 8:40 they were way too good for the way too few people who were there to see them. Aura noir took a lot away from their crowd. Ths was their first time over from poland.
aura noir: - (outside) 7:40 - 8:25 they were actually better than absu imho. The system was set up perfectly for them. I didn't expect to be that in them. |
Antigama's new record ehh... |
trap them: - 9:15 - 9:45 I ended up staying for their whole set I think. So good. People in the audience kept yelling NASHUA and NEW HAMPSHIRE. I yelled "LIVE FREE OR DIE". I missed a chunk of d666 cause of it.
destroyer 666: - (outside) 8:40 - 9:25 pestilence after them would have ruled, but that didn't happen. They ended playing 2 songs after they were told no more. People went crazy, but not as crazy as that one dude with the Destroyer 666 chest piece. That dude is a number one fan.
bolt thrower: - 1o:00 - ??? I got in for their first song. It was incredible. Son much energy from the crowd and the stage. There were even guards posted all in the front which hadn't happen yet. At some point, te guitarist stage left looked unhappy and he told something to the stagehand who then said something about the photographers pushing back, but he looked like he looked at me an said "not you" but I didn't really understand and it didn't translate in the front of the playing band. So they tried to shoe everone out away from my bag! I had to shove back to get to my bag. They were just doing what they were told. When I went out back, the stage manager(s) were even allowed back stage to do their jobs. There also weren't any videoographers back there. Sort of weird. Bolt thrower sounded amazing. I really wanted to see them in a small club and for 10 minutes, I did. Btw, the sogns were the same from the night before.
I've been checking this thread like checking a sports game.
Metal > Sports |
2 Bolt Thrower shows is kinda cool but what would have been even cooler would have been an extended second Abscess performance with some Autopsy songs! the crowd would have gone nuts for that. |
got in car, brushed teeth, picked out metal boogers removed shoes. at 8:13 I will be at home. hopefully there is a bj waiting for my salty balls. oops 8:14 damn construction |
8:22 now stopped for drinks. anyone want to get lucky? first md service station. go into the exon and tell the white hair how much you hate people pissing on toilet seats. I know you'll be lying, but you will be in like flynn |
Best day of the fest. Absu, Aura Noir, Krallice, Trap Them, D666, Bolt Thrower, Devourment and Sigh = bless my fuck. Especially Absu. Carley from New Jersey, I'd be your friend. |
Bastard! I wanted to leave tonight but the dudes I'm with want to sleep for three hours and then go..blah |
delaware and im already on a channel playing rick springfield... at least now im shirtless. |
oh now my pants are itching me... |
question: who's hungry like the wolf?
answer: me... and im going to hunt down after you |
I changed the lyrics to chumbawumba "I get knocked up, but I aborted again." |
Just bohemian rhapsodied. |
Are you driving nude again, Aaron? For the erotick titillatio of toll booth employees from here to Yeehaw Junction. |
EZ pass and I have boxers on. I really want to take them off to air my nuts but I'll refrain. |

the fact that pestilence will not be playing makes me pretty much entirely happy that i didnt go. |
Sorry dude, I failed in getting you a Pestilence shirt... |

Leaving within the hour to go to Nowarehouse... |
pictures upload. |
NY was a breeze! In CT now!! |
Just got in. Fuck. So tired. What a great fest. |
back!
honestly, Aura Noir was probably my personal favorite on the whole fest-they just killed it, fucking KILLED IT. Everyone on the outside stage was awesome.
Overall the fest was amazing. Re-entry was a major plus. Being outside all that time was key as well. Hails to all whom partaked in the ganja smoking and constant "Prost!"ing.
Hey Jim, good looks on the 84 route to avoid tolls. Beautiful drive with not a second of traffic. CHEERS! |
I like taking the 84 route into nyc cause of no tolls, but it adds time. |
I like taking the 84 route into nyc cause of no tolls, but it adds time. |
Going down it took us 10 hours and about $20 in tolls to come down the coast, mostly on 95.
Going home today it took us 7.5 hours and spent $2.10 in tolls. 83 North, to is 76?? to 84 onto 90. |
you have to get on 684 too at some point. I like that drive better than 95, but I never drive it anymore.
took me 6.5 to get there from boston and 7.5 to get home. |
Just got home. This was easily one of the best weekends ever. I was quite bummed that Pestilence couldn't make it, but not a huge loss considering how many other quality bands played. Seeing Bolt Thrower twice was fucking amazing; I definitely enjoyed the sound for them inside better than outside. |
Sigh, Devourment, Bolt Thrower, Trap Them. Fucking incredible way to end the weekend. |
Marsi looks like Gollum there |
^^i got to finally meet Marcy, and smoke with her! |
Sunday was incredible. I personally would have rather heard longer sets from the outside bands Sunday night in Pestilence's absence. I don't see why Destroyer 666 couldn't have played longer, I'm pretty sure the curfew was 11, and they were told to get off stage around 10:15. Absu was stellar and hilarious. |
I'm glad I wasn't the only one that found humor in absu's set.
it's funny that d666 went on 15 extra minutes after the sound guy said no more. |
My highlights were Bolt Thrower (twice!), Asphyx, General Surgery!!, and Mayhem. What a blast, one big party, I'm hunched over my keyboard at work right now. Amazing bands all around, Sayaddina and Rotten Sound were the speed kings, I missed Wolves and Sigh but by that time I could barely stand up anymore (i don't know how you did it Rev - great pics), crazy fucking metalheads, gorgeous women...can't wait for next year. I guess it's time to go back to work... |
It's weird that I'm sore today.
back, crack, knees.
I need to start doing more deep knee bends to get ready for next year. |
I agree with pretty much everyone here!
Such an amazing time and incredible experience. So many awesome bands! (longer more thought out write up of my highlights later)
It was awesome to hang out with the lot of you guys!
Thank you again to Jim and Rev for persuading me to go to this! (not that it took much persuading, but still)
oh man, can't wait til next year! |
I wonder if wren and/or larissa found the lee harvey oswald fist bump shot yet. |
I wish the sound was better for Absu, it was very bassy. The new bassist assumed most of the vocal duties, and when Proscriptor would finally come in, he was almost inaudible at points. Despite these few issues, their set list was killer, it was still great to see Proscriptor demolish his kit and introduce the songs.
Asphyx > Potential Pestilence set where they only play one track off of Consuming Impulse. |
No, I haven't found that shot yet! *goes searching!*
Also, what's with that make everything white effect you were using? It's awesome, but kinda bizarre. |
No kidding, why do they do that? I hate it.
Even the SLAYER CD they played earlier sounded like shit with the BOOM BOOM bass sub-woofer, or whatev.
I was really impressed with how well the outside stage sounded for most of the acts. |
I'm glad a majority of the bands I wanted to see were on the outside stage, as the sound there seemed much better than inside the venue. |
definitely going to this next year. |
We paid all this money and came all this way to get to this show and look more angry than the people next to us. Hail metal! \m/ |
best weekend ever or best weekend ever? |
According to 95% of that crowd. No. |
According to 95% of that crowd. No. |
Ha, didn't read most of this thread... but i think they just like to complain. How can you not have a good time at this show?
I only wish I didn't drink so much Sunday night. |
neither, best 5 days ever! |
I bet you had a better time than all those sour pusses, although in spite of that I really regret not making it. Should've told work to fuck off. |
oh i see what you mean now sacreligion... at work and had images turned off. |
i don't think i'm going to drive next year. i think i may fly. |
Driving seems as if it'd be half the fun. After making the trek to South Cackalacky last year by car this trip looks like it'd be a breeze. Hopefully they outshine themselves with an amazing lineup next year so that I have more motivation to go. |
Taking route 83 to 81 to 84 instead of 95 and the Jersey Turnpike was a great decision. Thanks Josh. The drive back was so much better than the drive down. |
Is there no delaware bridge involved that way? I spent more time stuck in that awful state than all of awful new jersey on my way back from SC. |
The drive down made me hate New Jersey. Roads make no fucking sense and there are toll every 5 minutes which further congests the roads. |
this lineup was incredible and I feel bad for people who didn't know what they were missing. Soooo many massholes. It felt like O'Brien's relocated or something. Honestly one of the best weekend's I've ever had. I won't complain about ANYTHING. |

yeah, i think no delaware bridge, right josh? i had driving duty only half the time. |
It's worth mentioning that Flesh Parade were the sleeper band of the fest. Waited a long time to see those guys, the new vocalist was spot on, and the new album sounds absolutely wonderful. So good. |
When the first confirmed lineup was posted I was 100% positive I was finally going to make the trip this year. Then I got responsible and employed. Go figure. |

It really did feel like a Masshole takeover, haha. Good times. |
No Delaware bridge but we did get a $4 for driving only like 20 miles of their highway. Way home was much better, beatufiful views all around. |
I'm going to drive next year, bring a 1/4 lb. of awesome doobage, and take backroads the whole way. 36 hour trip to baltimore, anyone? |

I was impressed with them too. I'll have to check out the new album. |

yes...took that both ways. Scenic drive, stress free, save $20 on tolls, didn't have to drive through NJ, NYC, which is the best part. Gotta take this route next year.
Best weekend ever? Comes close to the Finland trip last year for Tuska fest, but the MDF lineup was better. Tough to compare. So yes. |
yeah, backed. That drive was sooooo pretty, especially thru PA.
new(ish) Absu CD is just NVTS |
Flesh Parade was one of the best of the fest. |
best weekend ever or best weekend ever? |
No, it was the best weekend ever!
I won't complain about ANYTHING. |
And you loved my smootch!
I liked watching it
8====D |
ASPHYX!
DESTROYER 666!
ABSU!
JIG-AI!
SIGH!
AURA NOIR!
IMMO outside!
ATHEIST!
According to 95% of that crowd. No. |
Haha! I'm pretty sure that pic was taken during The Red Chord, who were the oddball band on the outside stage Sunday. We were all waiting for Absu. |

Haha! I'm pretty sure that pic was taken during The Red Chord, who were the oddball band on the outside stage Sunday. We were all waiting for Absu. |
yeah I kinda timed it so I wouldn't even have to hear the conclusion of red chord |
I saw people with trc shirts. |
Drummer complaint: On the exact same drumset, the drummer from The Red Chord outplayed Proscriptor in every way, from his kick technique to his strength and speed, and overall had a much better sound. Proscriptor even dropped a few sticks. Absu is one of my favorite bands, and they obviously have much better music - just saying, The Red Chord outperformed them (yes I do think the entire band did), they were one of the best sounding bands at the festival, and I was shocked. Oops. |
Yea, Brad from TRC is a beast and a very underrated drummer in Metal |
you do know brad's former band, right?
http://www.metal-archives.com/band.php?id=3626 |
does that make them 1337? |
He really is - one of the best drummers of the weekend. Rotten Sound, Sayyadina, Atheist, and Mayhem performances all made me want to practice more. I missed Cephalic Carnage and Phobia, they probably kicked ass too. |
the weirdest drummer was I think it was antigama. wicked weird set up and that whole band was a tattoo nightmare. |
i agree with Malika. Best long weekend ever. Even despite terrible tooth pain... the vaporizer helped. |
FUCK, Antigama. I only heard them for the first time standing outside Saturday, and only caught their last song... which i really liked. And i thought TRC killed. I def would've liked more than one from fused and two from clients, but that's ok, they played the stuff from PFE well. |
Rev: i thought you got a shot of me smiling like an idiot but i couldn't find it. Am i crazy? |
"It's not gonna be alright..."
Oh, and SIGH!
deathfestival was a surreal experience, maybye cuz i was drunk 99 percent of the time
quote of the weekend: "This next ones about leather and swords...
...its called swords and leather!" |
brandon's picture there is the best of the whole fest. Mirai was fumbling with flames and gave up. I didn't figure there would be more. I am lame. |
Best weekend ever for sure. Nice meeting some of you. Bummed I didn't make it back to Jim's to try out that vaporizer! |
I am finally back home in NH. Yes I broke my nose for Destroyer 666 but it was the best weekend i've had in years. I only wish I could of seen what I looked like covered in blood in the mosh pit... |
I really really really fucking wish I went. |
Tired;knee's,back&neck sore.Cephalic,Decap,Asphix,Venomous,Victims;Hail,Brutal,Immolation,Athiest.Napalm,Bolt;Red,Absu,Krallice,Aura,Destroyer,Trap,Devourment,Bolt&Sigh were awesome!30+hours of fun in&out of the sun!I missed Lair,Phobia,General,Wolves,(Marduk&Pestilence)(Hah-hah).Maybe next year!Thanks MDF!I met great folks from all over! |
Asphyx probably had the best sound of the entire weekend, from where I was standing, anyhow. A bummer Mayhem fucked their set time over. |
The best sets I saw where. Aura Noir, Asphyx, Bolt Thrower, Birdflesh, Absu, Abscess.
I wish there was another day and I was still there right now at some random hotel room party... ah well. |
Aura Noir blew me away. So good. |
Funny thing is I hung out with Blasphemer later that night and he insisted they were playing like absolute shit and normally they are 100 times better.
Haha, I will have to fly to Norway sometime to see them if they really are that much better. |
Can't wait to be in better shape for next year, this year was rough! |
That GRID really took its toll, eh Dwyer?
Tee hee |

Oops. |
I am not a Red Chord fan at all, but I got sucked into watching their set while waiting for Absu. I can't really deny the fact that they played tight, and their drummer was solid. I thought Proscriptor's drumming was killer, the guy's a beast, but it was his lack of vocals that I'm disappointed in. |
Oh and Aura Noir were obviously kings. |
Aura Noir was bloody virgin tight. Hope I get the chance to see 'em again. |
Aura Noir was also a huge highlight for me. Just before their set, I was complaining how there wasn't a lot of thrash in the MDF lineup (yeah yeah, I know it's a death fest, but the lineup this year is pretty awesomely diverse with grind, black, death, some sludgy stuff, etc). Then Aura Noir hits the stage and I'm like "YES!!! THRASH!!!" and even better Black/Thrash! |
Great to hear the feedback on the outside stages guys ! |
the whole fest was incredible...the out side stage sounded killer and the weather was perfect.
Plus I got kicked out towards the end of Mayhem's set by a big, black bouncer for yanking down the banner; I sneaked back in 2 mins later and was able to get another bracelet for the rest of the fest from some kid whos friend didn't show up. Aces.
Highlights:
TWO Bolt Thrower sets
Absu
D666
Aura Noir (KILLED! I never thought I'd get a chance to see this band)
also seeing tons of old friends, meeting tons of new people and honestly having the best metal weekend since Party San (Germany) a few summers back.
Bummers:
waiting for an hour for a Bolt Thrower shirt and getting stuck with a gay, one-color baseball style shirt that they clearly had printed up in Blatimore the night before due to them selling out the previous night. |
