got it earlier today, gotta say it looked so much nicer in person (also nicer in the pictures i took myself).

i started feeling like a pussy playing it with the 9's they had on it, sounded good... set it up with 11's. plays so nice. The emg-hz is okay, but I think when I put an 81 in the bridge it will make this thing scream. (possibly even louder than my rr1?)

purdy, fag..

toggletoggle post by Kalopsia   at Mar 18,2004 12:03am

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Mar 18,2004 12:12am
let me guess... that wood is curled maple under there?

toggletoggle post by RustedAngel at Mar 18,2004 12:18am
mohogany body, flamed maple top.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Mar 18,2004 12:46am
the back looks like mahoganoy (sorry, I didn't look at the pictures of the back).
the front is a maple.
I've never heard of "flamed" but looks like curly maple.
stuff reflects light crazy... the coolest maple is birds eye.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Mar 18,2004 12:48am

that's a shitty piece.

i had one of those bad boys for a couple years, solid guitar. the stock pickups arent that bad either. i dont know if you should go with an 81 in the ESP though, the difference in output might be awfully strong. id put a duncan jb in the bridge and it would be right on target with the rr1. just my opinion though.

sweet guitar.

but you you should of bought a bass player and a drummer off of eGay instead.

I envy your rhodes. I only have an RR3

toggletoggle post by Kalopsia   at Mar 18,2004 1:24am
my guitarist (well, one of my guitarists) has an RR3R. awesome guitar, although it's been on repair for a long time now

toggletoggle post by Hoser at Mar 18,2004 1:32am
Hey Tom,

That thing looks sick. I might just buy a red one too. I love mine. Told ya it was a sick guitar, dude. You'll lpve it....I'll never get rid of mine. I'm actually quite jealous right now......I want another one!! So if you decide to hate this guitar...you have a buyer right here!!

Hope ya love it dude......well have to jam out sometime.....

toggletoggle post by subjugate   at Mar 18,2004 7:51am
nice looks like you won't need that rr1 anymore

toggletoggle post by handinjury at Mar 18,2004 7:56am
Is that a MH-301??? I have one, really nice guitar.
Mahoghany body, quilted maple top, neck thru.

it's the discontinued mh-300 the main difference is the finish on the top of the guitar.

I'm mainly deciding to go with an 81 because everyone I know raves about them. Hoser (who has the same guitar) got an 81 put in the bridge and he says it sounds sick. I'm not going to get a set, just the bridge if I can. I'm more curious now after hearing the HZ's because they sound decent for a stock pu and I have a feeling the 81's output better harmonics. The JB in my rhodes sounds overall good, but the sound of the higher strings is far superior to the low end on it.

Maybe Hoser will bring his over my house so I can try it through my gear HEHEH

the mh-301's are quilted instead of flamed maple tops.

toggletoggle post by handinjury at Mar 18,2004 9:34am
Thats the one i have . Rusted,Your going to enjoy that guitar. IT plays really really nice. Mine's is tuned to b w/ 13-56's.

toggletoggle post by RustedAngel at Mar 18,2004 9:51am edited Mar 18,2004 9:52am
13's! jesus christ, are you getting any buzzing?

last night I put 11's on it and set it up for Standard B. I'm getting a little buzz on the B and E strings, I'm too afraid to turn the truss rod on a neck thru. heh.

I also noticed the frets are a lot smaller than my Ibanez and Jackson... I thought that was wierd. Yet they are still called Extra Jumbo frets, I'd hate to see how small regular frets are. hahaa.

toggletoggle post by handinjury at Mar 18,2004 11:23am
Yeah the frets are pretty standard (25.5 scale neck) thou ibanez's are a lil wider. I put 13-56 so i dont get any buzz's. bigger strings and a thicker pick lil give you a more beefier tone. Its a little harder , in terms of picking and junk but i like bottom end, thats why i favor maghognay wood tones. bring on the bass.........chunk , chunk

toggletoggle post by RustedAngel at Mar 18,2004 11:44am
13's are too thick in imo. I'm going to adjust the truss rod in it later to give the neck more bow... should get rid of the buzzing I get.

damn, sexy axe

toggletoggle post by Hoser at Mar 18,2004 7:54pm
Tom,

I'm off fer the next 2 days (Friday and Saturday). I'll give you a call at work tomorrow and we'll get together. I'll let you play mine through your rig. That way you'll be able to truly dig the 81'. I'll do all of this in trade for 1 XXL Opeth tour hoodie.

hahahahahaha

toggletoggle post by the umbrella at Mar 18,2004 8:14pm
nice guitar. the Hz's suck though. get the EMG 81's like you said. i love my esp sooo much. but make sure you lose the HZ's.

toggletoggle post by RustedAngel at Mar 19,2004 1:53pm
bought an 81 to replace the hz bridge on ebay last night.. $77 new in the box.

if i like the emg enough i might possibly put emg's in my rr1.

toggletoggle post by the umbrella at Mar 20,2004 6:21pm
i would

toggletoggle post by RustedAngel at Mar 22,2004 10:48am
i was just thinking...

i hope there is enough room in the cavity to mount the 9volt battery for the EMG. anyone know about this?

toggletoggle post by The_ExhumeD  at Mar 22,2004 11:00am
Shit that guitar makes me wish I started playing strat style bodies again, Ive gone lespaul for two years now ocassionally playing my ibanez, wish I never sold my jackson, and always wanted an ESP but never forked over the cash, either way I always end back up with my lespaul theres something about them, just has the right feel for me, plus I notice goign from my lespaul to my ibanez that my speed increases ten fold, thinner neck. if you dont mind me asking how much did you pay for it?
