50-game suspension for ROIDS

LMAO

peace out!

i pretty much hate baseball now anyway, so this doesn't even bother me. basketball has pretty much surpassed baseball as my 3rd favorite of the 4 major sports.

WOAH. Don't be surprised if he tries to bring some old friends down with him.

I think the only player that would surprise me at this point are Pedroia, cause of his size and he came up after the "steroid era"

Gabe Kapler.

Professional athletes should be ENCOURAGED to do steroids for our entertainment. I might actually care about sports if there were more freaks running around on the field.

SHOOT JUICE OR YOU ARE A PUSSY.

there should be a PSL - Progressive Steroid League.

it would be like extreme baseball. also the baseballs should be live grenades and there should be landmines in the outfield.

in about 10 years players will start mysteriously dying just like the WWE/WWF is encountering these days. I'm sure MLB will be investigated as an organization. See if there was any behind the scenes encouragement.

who cares GET OVER IT

what persons name is it gonna take for baseball and sports fans in general to realize that everyone was or is on some kind of perfrmance enhancer.

That's not nearly as dramatic as the Barry Bonds transformation. Ortiz was 21 in that first photo of course he's not going to be that big.

Manny was supposed to be one of the remaining "natural" hitters in baseball.
Looks like that's not the case anymore.

I've been saying for years Ortiz did something. His stats line up perfectly with the steroid-era. Dude went from a nobody to a somebody to a superstar in 2 seasons, then back to a somebody like THAT.

ARod was also supposed to be baseball's "savior" during the steroid era until this year as well.

If you ask me, Griffey Jr. is the only true (former) power hitter in the game right now. Pujols can suck a horse cock for all I care; Ryan Howard too.

toggletoggle post by Sacreligion at May 7,2009 1:55pm
The only performance enhancers ortiz has ever used are red beans and rice.

there was a while there where the media was saying "well at least ARod is clean"....this was before the Mitchell Report

well, it's still a pretty big difference! especially when you consider all the health problems ortiz has had over the past few years (remember the irregular heartbeat thing?) and the way his production has declined (he's still only 33), i think it's pretty obvious that he juiced.

toggletoggle post by RustyPS  at May 7,2009 3:13pm
well I will say one thing about Ortiz....a clear indicator of PED use is head growth....and in those pictures above, his dome looks just as big then as it does now

clearly a juicer

Are people forgetting that players also bulk up from HOURS of weight training almost every day? It's not always because of drugs. I'm not defending anyone, merely pointing out a fact.

Besides, I don't think steroids help that much. You still have to hit the ball. If you're on steroids but strikeout all the time, is your performance enhanced? No.

HI, I'M GEORGE ZIMMER, FOUNDER AND CEO OF THE MEN'S WEARHOUSE. WHILE SURREPTITIOUSLY PLUNGING MY ROSY-CHEEKED CYCLOPEAN ALLY INTO THE ANAL CAVITY OF A YOUNG MIGRANT FARM WORKER OF INDETERMINATE GENDER IN THE FRONT ROW OF A MOVIE THEATER, THE POOR YOUTH SCREAMED FOR MORE THAN THREE MINUTES STRAIGHT, FINALLY COUGHING UP A LOAD OF 100% PURE ZIMMER SAUCE AND PASSING OUT. THE OTHER MOVIE PATRONS, ANGRY AT THE INTERRUPTION OF THE ADVENTURES OF SHARKBOY AND LAVAGIRL IN 3-D, BEGAN PELTING ME WITH DRINKS, FOOD, AND PHONE NUMBERS HASTILY WRITTEN ON NAPKINS. UNFORTUNATELY, MY OUTRAGEOUSLY DAPPER SUIT WAS RUINED IN THE PROCESS. I NONCHALANTLY PULLED THE UNCONSCIOUS YOUTH OFF MY ENORMOUS EYEBALL GOUGER AND STRIPPED NUDE. THEN, WITH A BESTIAL ROAR, I BEAT THE ENTIRE AUDIENCE TO DEATH--WITHOUT LEAVING THE FRONT ROW. ON MY WAY OUT, IN THE CUSTOM OF THE ZIMMER FAMILY, I GAVE THEM A BURIAL AT SEMEN. I GUARANTEE IT.

the drug is also used to counteract the side effects of roid use, which is why its banned by the MLB

until the mid 90's (the steroid era) baseball players were mostly scrawny fucks who didnt lift that often. steroids are what help you get through "HOURS of weight training almost every day."

and i do agree with you though that steroids aren't gonna make a bad baseball player good, but it definitely helps with power and stamina. the more names that keep coming out the more i think that every power hitter, to me, is guilty until proven innocent. steroids are a regular part of the game at this point

So, are steroids, in your glorious opinions, only bad with baseball? If you found out big name superstars in football were on roids, would you be as upset about it? In this age, every sport is tainted.

toggletoggle post by dreadkill  at May 8,2009 4:23pm
true, every sport is tainted, but roids are more commonplace in baseball. there have been a lot of suspensions in the NFL because of roids, but you don't hear much about it from the NBA and NHL. i imagine there definitely are basketball and hockey players roiding up, but not nearly as many as in baseball.

toggletoggle post by RustyPS  at May 8,2009 4:23pm
well, just look at Shawne Merriman and Rodney Harrison (both busted for HGH)....are they "tainted" as much as Bonds, Clemens, or ARod?

toggletoggle post by MillenialKingdom  at May 8,2009 7:23pm
My question, dreadkill, is why is baseball the most scrutinized sport? Is it because players are being caught more often?

toggletoggle post by spaldino at May 8,2009 7:29pm
baseball players dont have the time to lift all that much during the season. they travel most of the time.

my glorious opinions? what?

no, i wouldnt really care. steroids help you build muscle and make you stronger, not make you a more skilled athlete. i dont think it tarnishes baseball as much as everyone else makes it out to be, it's a new era in the game. you could make the same argument about hitters being "cheated" out of higher batting averages in this era because of more emphasis on relief pitching. baseball changes, pro sports change and if players want to do roids it doesnt really bother me

toggletoggle post by MillenialKingdom  at May 8,2009 8:21pm edited May 8,2009 8:23pm
I still think baseball is being scrutinized more than other sports.

toggletoggle post by Kevord  at May 8,2009 8:29pm
Roids are not as helpful to Hockey and basketball players because those sports are more about stamina and shooting acuracy than strength. The NFL 's steroid policy is actually very easy to work around since they only test at specific points in the season. Baseball is the one sport were steroids have a giant impact.

toggletoggle post by MillenialKingdom  at May 8,2009 9:08pm
That's true. Honestly though, it's not going to make me like baseball less just get me frustrated with certain players. This whole Manny thing is already annoying.

toggletoggle post by RustyPS  at May 8,2009 11:38pm
WEEI has been speculating on the baseball roids stuff vs. other sports....the prevaling theory among the hosts is that the records/numbers in baseball are much more sacred than they are in the other sports

IMO it has a lot to do with the baseball media...just look at how Olney/Gammons/Kurkjian are currently skirting around this Manny story....they don't want to deal with it.....where as the football media faces it head on when it comes up, which is rare

I think its just that its more taboo in baseball than it is elsewhere

"Being suspended is one thing, man, but not being able to play baseball is really, really bad," Ramirez said. "I am going to miss baseball very much. I would like to tell everybody that I really love baseball, and that I love baseball, and that I am going to miss hitting the baseball forever and ever. I would like to end my career as a Yankee."
