300w would be fine. I'll just be running 2-3 hard drives and a c2d off it.
I also could use 1GB 400mhz or 533mhz ram.

micro atx uses all the standard atx connectors i believe. it's just a lot smaller. I think it's like 5 inches by 2 inches where atx supplies are something like 8 inches by 5 inches.

I have a micro atx board and will take anything.

I need to build a NAS-like box for carina. I'm going to use the mother board and case that I already have. then trade my c2d e6400 for this:
Core 2 Quad Q9550 2.83 GHz Quad Core Processor $232
Dell has Core 2 Quad Q9550 2.83 GHz Quad Core Processor $310 - $77.50 (with code 5NSKFK1HL?CRDN) = $232.49

and I also need to either get or return some 533mhz or 400mhz RAM.

I'm going to build a machine that will mirror 2x1TB and then update an offline 1TB once a month. and then 3x500GB in a similar manner. most of the drives are externals. And the mirroring will be done through software. I'm going to make the machine run a cron of rsync every night that will ADD. Then run a rsync to look for updates/deletions, but make it just report and not actually do the update. That way you get a report of files that viruses might have affected and it will make a webpage of it.

maybe I'll just do that instead... I think I have SODIMM ram sitting around.

wow... that machine runs at 33w. that would save the cost of the unit in electricity in one year over a franken pc that I was going to build (120w+). load 2x1 TB drives into it and boot ubuntu off a flash-card ftw! then I can put it on a UPS and it will run for weeks off the UPS.
