Not into it. Anyone else? I just found it completely underwhelming.

toggletoggle post by dreadkill  at Mar 11,2009 10:45am
i haven't gotten it yet. i like all of mastodon's stuff, but didn't get into blood mountain as much as previous albums. i hope it's good because my daughter's name is skye.

toggletoggle post by MikeOvDecrepitvde at Mar 11,2009 10:45am
The artwork is amazing, the musical content is not.

toggletoggle post by brian_dc  at Mar 11,2009 10:46am
you want your daughter to get cracked

I totally hated it

I liked the song with Scott Kelly on it because I'm a Neurosis faggot. but otherwise I was left not caring.

toggletoggle post by W3 nli at Mar 11,2009 10:46am
yeah didnt dig on most of BM and the first track from this new album def didnt blow my hair back at all.

good band is now bad

toggletoggle post by JustinSteele   at Mar 11,2009 10:49am
I wanted to like it. It's different, and that's not the reason I dislike it, but it doesn't help. Just didn't give me the same visceral reaction I've had to their other material. Might be because they went all singing, no yells really at all. I liked when they mixed that in but it wasn't dominating. I don't even think the riffs are that great and the drumming is not nearly as chaotic (which was one of the things I loved about previous albums). That dude never calmed down and it was awesome. Eh, maybe after another few listens I'll be into it but right now it is doing nothing for me.

i'm gonna check out a cd from that American Heritage band instead

SMART MAN.

Get Millenarian.

toggletoggle post by nick327 at Mar 11,2009 11:06am
This is hugely disappointing compared to their other stuff. There's just nothing to suck you in, no crushing yet catchy riffs and the drumming feels held back quite a bit.

I'm not gonna fault them for trying something different as I'm sure there is an audience for this. Maybe those of you who are into more sludge/stoner stuff will dig it?

Still one of my favorite bands, but I'll probably skip seeing them on their current tour seeing as they're only playing stuff from the new album (or so I've heard).

"Millenarian" wipes the floor with Mastodon. Such an underrated album.

I've always preferred Lethargy, as opposed to Mastodon. At least they never started to suck.

toggletoggle post by Murph  at Mar 11,2009 11:12am
Yeah, I've got the Lethargy discography thing 93'-99'

It's fucking awesome.
Super riffs/drumming/style.

toggletoggle post by darkwor  at Mar 11,2009 11:16am
I haven't heard it yet, but all singing and holding back on the drums is what I feared Mastodon would turn into. One of the first actual metal bands I really got into (aside from Metallica etc.) with Remission, inspired me to hit my drums harder.

toggletoggle post by W3 nli at Mar 11,2009 11:16am
im still gonna go cause i enjoy Intronaut and think they'll sound huge at the HOBs plus i mean Kylesa's new record is great stuff too.

Intronaut was sweet live, but their new record makes me angry.

The material is pretty awesome, but whoever engineered/produced it is a fucking tard, and sucked all the tone and rawness from it.

It sounds like an Into Eternity shit prog/metal album, which is the completely wrong production those guys need. They are way too heavy and droney for that.

toggletoggle post by W3 nli at Mar 11,2009 11:21am
i think that left the band when Leon split.

toggletoggle post by brian_dc  at Mar 11,2009 11:21am
that's what happens when you sign with Century Media

toggletoggle post by W3 nli at Mar 11,2009 11:22am
lol

toggletoggle post by RustyPS  at Mar 11,2009 11:23am
Intronaut frustrates me....they somehow bore me even though every song is intriguing....which I know makes no sense, but that's what happens when I listen to them

toggletoggle post by W3 nli at Mar 11,2009 11:24am
yeah please see the Ocean

toggletoggle post by RustyPS  at Mar 11,2009 11:25am
I actually really like The Ocean, but only after I saw them live

toggletoggle post by brian_dc  at Mar 11,2009 11:25am edited Mar 11,2009 11:26am
pantheon of the lesser was super

edit...lol...I wasn't trying to be a jackass, I actually thought you meant Ocean

toggletoggle post by ouchdrummer   at Mar 11,2009 11:27am
lame, lamo lamo

toggletoggle post by darkwor  at Mar 11,2009 11:29am
The Ocean lives up to their name. Blew me away live.

same here yet again

I think what it was is that they pulled off that full sound live without all the instruments they have on record....that was thoroughly impressive

toggletoggle post by MikeOvDecrepitvde at Mar 11,2009 11:37am
I was disappointed with Pantheon of the Lesser, but I need to give it more chances. Here Where Nothing Grows was fucking grim; one of the best albums to come out of NE in a long time.

I've seen Intronaut a bunch of times and could never get into them. Also could never understand why The Ocean always gets compared to Neurosis and ISIS. It doesn't make any sense.

toggletoggle post by DestroyYouAlot  at Mar 11,2009 11:38am
ONLY LINOLEUM KNIFE IS REAL

toggletoggle post by JustinSteele   at Mar 11,2009 11:42am
Really though, who didn't have the highest hopes for them when they released that gem?

DID YOU BRING YOUR BABY? BABIES DON'T WATCH THIS - TAKE THE SEED OUTSIDE

toggletoggle post by W3 nli at Mar 19,2009 5:29pm
yeah just listened, its very not good.

toggletoggle post by darkwor  at Mar 24,2009 4:26pm
I just listened to a couple songs, I dig it, I like the vocals, no it's not the same Mastodon, but if this is what Metallica worshipers listen to now, that's cool.

Will download.

toggletoggle post by RustyPS  at Mar 24,2009 4:27pm
I listened to it for the first time sometime last week, and I didn't like it

I'll listen some more to see if it sinks in, which is what I had to do to enjoy Leviathan

Wow. I thought Mastodon could do no wrong. Also, I'm diggin the new Intronaut. Very good bass work.

Mastodon = Hype

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at May 30,2009 12:13pm
listened to it front to back recently and it has grew on me. still not huge on the vocals and the production seems a little fuzzy at times but I'll take it.
best track on it is the 1st one (Oblivion)

toggletoggle post by reimroc at May 30,2009 12:18pm
i don't think anything can top leviathan in my mind.

toggletoggle post by jebus crispex at May 30,2009 2:32pm
I really like this album, but I totally understand why other people don't. It's definitely not the Remission era Mastodon we all know and love, but I went into it knowing that it would be more of a rock album than anything. It's definitely gotten a lot more hype than it deserves, but this guy enjoys it!

toggletoggle post by The_Rooster  at May 30,2009 10:19pm
First two songs are MEH.

Track 3 sucks jizm.

4, 5, and 6 are quality.

7 is gay.

That's my review.
