On a serious note, I do see this one coming as well.

How not? Almost the entire industrialized world was aligned either towards NATO or the Warsaw Pact. Even though there were few declared wars in the 60 or so years of the conflict, Ideological conflict consumed the world. Every battle fought on the side of NATO was to contain Communism - likewise, for the Warsaw Pact, it was to spread it. The entire world might not have been in a declared war; it was a silent war.
