WASHINGTON – Congressional officials say President Obama has told lawmakers he plans to pull troops out of Iraq by August 2010. His plan would leave behind 35,000 to 40,000 troops — possibly as many as 50,000 — to advise Iraqi troops and protect U.S. interests.

The officials disclosed Obama's plans after a meeting at the White House. Obama is expected to announce the new strategy on Friday.

I really hope they don't keep 50,000 but still this is awesome news

Good, but keeping 50,000 troops after 2010 was the Bush plan.

Not good on getting involved with Pakistan. 1.4 billion people, many allied with China and the others allied with the Islamic fundamentalists of the middle east, mixing it up if it spills into India. Run the fuck away and let them exterminate each other.

Afghanistan: probably not a bad idea. At least he has more balls than Clinton

Yes.
Out of Iraq and straight to Afghanistan.
Eastern Afghanistan, to be exact.
Waiting to push into Pakistan.
Wait and see.

Since NATO took control of Afghanistan a few years ago, the Taliban have been kicking their asses. I'm pretty sure they control a majority of the country right now.

Obama's sending troops to prevent this from toppling and watch what NATO's doing - because they're doing horrible.

i agree.
i was just pointing it out for all the anti-war, pro-obama liberals who would consider any increase in U.S. troops in any country a bad thing

Good point. They're not going to like that.

Something else they'll hate:

He invaded pakistan within a week of being in office. That's a new record.

The guys not against war, He's defending Israel's interests, not the US peoples'.

He's probably defending us more than anybody else. Bin laden has to be captured or killed, something Bushy failed to do

Just out of curiosity, what crime did Bin Laden commit?
