Went today, going back Sunday. Had 11 tilts, windy day so we hit a bunch of wind flags but we definately nailed 6 or 7 pick in 2 hours time. Even landed a sweet 23.5" pick as we were packing up.
Built a sick fire on the ice, couple of beers, joints, skewered some venison sausage with kielbasa and marched upon a frozen lake.
Ice Fishing rules.

I had a decapitated piccirilli head bit me once.
then I dropped my cousin's pocket knife in the hole.

Ice fishing sounds so fun. I consider it a hobby not a sport though... unless the ice breaks, it will be a sport real fast if that happens. I still really want to try it out sometime though.

sounds fun enough, but i would need lots o weed & tunes.

toggletoggle post by AnotherMetalDrummer  at Feb 21,2009 9:47am
Yea that defentially sounds like something I would want to do. I have always wanted to ice fish but I just dont know where to start.....Where did you go? Do you have to rent those little houses, or do you have to know someone with one?

ice fishing is good stuff, although tricky after beers. I plan on building a shanty this summer for weekend retreats away from everyone.

toggletoggle post by SkinSandwich at Feb 21,2009 1:46pm
I would love to do this on 120 mg's of oxycontins and Sierra Nevada's!

be a real man, buy 6 jiggs, a chisel, a scoop, and then get some shiners. oh and a sled. a kids plastic sled with a longish rope was the best ice fishing invention ever. if you like it, then get a hut and/or auger.

yeah ice fishing is a blast, i didn't have a chance to go this year. damn. on "The Misanthrope" the opening segment is Nocturno Culto and Grutle Kjellson from Enslaved doing some ice fishing.

I ice fish all the time. I have a gas auger, 4-wheeler, otter sled w/shelter http://www.otteroutdoors.com/sleds.html and I just picked up a new color Lowrance portable sonar http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/template...=index&indexId=cat601356&hasJS=true

I like jigging with my sonar rather than chasing flags -- I just like to fight fish on my jig rod and feel them hit. Yes I am obsessive about this. Didn't make it out this weekend, but will most likely hit it hard next weekend -- probably go for lake trout at one of our big lakes up here.

Tight lines, bitches!

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Feb 23,2009 9:31am
yeah, a 4-wheeler... those fish won't hear you coming. And sonar? I'm sorry, but your pussy lips seem to be showing.

Whatever, hippy. Actually most guys are using either sonar or underwater cameras now. And you aren't going to get out to isolated structures 2 miles out in the Broads on Winni without some form of transportation -- in 50ft of water, no, the trout won't hear you coming.

Was out on Sunday, the boys got 5 picc, I was late out of bed and didn't set up. Walking a mile on ice without cleats is a rush. Fired up some Venison Steaks, had a sick fire over a bed of sand. Rained HARD, fucking lake was a giant puddle plus we found open water all over the place on the walk back, fucking exciting! Hopefully it freezes good for the weekend.
The lake we go to is rather shallow, we typically fish in only about 15 ft of water. No lake trout, so bass is the big prize. I'd definately try jigging in a deeper lake. As Yeti metioned above in the Misanthrope DVD they totally use cameras and jig.

Bless ya...

I love to icefish. We usually hit Grady's for some Togue (Lakers), or Salmon if you could be so lucky. Other than that, it's Smelt...and the occasional asshole Tomcod.

toggletoggle post by largefreakatzero at Mar 2,2009 9:50am
Tomcod??? You do live in Maine -- those are called cusk!

Got 4 lakers yesterday @ Winnisquam. Pic is not that great, but here's one of them:

Don't worry hippies, I let them go.

going out today! trying a new pond that's loaded with big bass, pike, perch and picc. fucking cold! almost bought a jigging rod since the wind is so heavy today but fuck it, it's always fun yell flag and run in your cleats.
today's menu - venision steak, kilbasia, wild turkey and busch. marijuana will be smoked. legends will come to life. if you hate the outdoors you're not metal.

i'm building a shanty next year

toggletoggle post by BSV at Jan 29,2010 12:51pm
shanty would be sweet if lived on a lake. might as well buy a tent.
FISHING METAL PUNX FOREVER

GO TO NORWAY AND FISH WITH DARKTHRONE AND ENSLAVED OR YOU'RE A PUSSY

toggletoggle post by largefreakatzero at Jan 29,2010 1:23pm
Buy a portable, don't build a shanty - you want to be able to keep moving. I might do a panfish trip on Sunday, but it is fucking brutal up here today with the wind.

toggletoggle post by ctb0rderpatrol at Jan 29,2010 6:13pm
TARP AS A WINDBREAK FTW. this is my favorite sport outside of chasin women

toggletoggle post by BlackoutRick at Jan 30,2010 8:51am
Yeah, this weekend is brutal. BTW, I never caught anything on Winnisquam.
