I've heard good things about other HOB locations. Could this be the end of The Palladiums' reign of being the only large venue in MA hosting all the larger tours?

Positives & Negatives...

+Much closer
+Better sound
+Better lighting?

-Parking
-Traffic

I'm actually going to be there on the 26th of Feb. Jimmy Eat world is playing Clarity all the way through, so I'm treatin the lady to dinner, a show, and a hotel room in Boston.
Blue, you gonna be there?

HoB's are generally very good from what I remember.
I bet you it'll destroy the palladium in sound/lighting/stage. I'm not too sure how much drinks would cost, but expect it to be much classier than the Palladishit.

I really hope that it doesn't take too much business/tours away from the Palladium. I know for huge tours like the upcoming Lamb Of God, they are playing a date at both and Killswitch/Dragonforce did it back when it was the Avalon. But it would be a real shame to lose the Palladium, for so many reasons.

Kinda sounds corny, but I have so many memories of the Palladium, and it is my favorite place to see a concert. You could argue that you lose some of the crisp sound that the House of Blues might offer, but I feel like the Palladium has more character to it if that makes sense. Sorry for the ramble.

Somewhat sidenote - the House Of Blues would pretty much NEVER be able to accomodate something like the Metal and Hardcore festival...

Just realized this place is kinda walking distance from my place! This could be good! There's not much I'm particularly interested in seeing, though I may go to Children of Bodom for the heck of it.

i hear ya i live like 5 minutes from the palladium. place is a shithole but i too would like to see it keep having da metalz

toggletoggle post by dreadkill  at Jan 21,2009 5:45pm
the biggest thing that would suck compared to the palladium would be parking. it is scarcer and costs more.

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at Jan 21,2009 5:47pm
yea, HoB isn't the right environment for a big fest like that... yet. The palladium is a withering, old building with lots of headspace. the high ceiling is what makes the place.

toggletoggle post by moenli at Jan 21,2009 5:57pm
Well, being that Disney owns HoB and every band needs to be cleared by Disney before they play ANY HoB i'm sure the Palladium isn't going anywhere. Case in point, the Faceless have to sit out the first show of their tour with Cynic because Disney thinks theyre too inappropriate or satanic or somethin stupid like that.

thats retarded

toggletoggle post by LPCustom at Jan 21,2009 6:04pm
Good point though, haha indeed Metal/Hardcore is going absolutely nowhere atleast! I really do wonder the reason about the Faceless though cause the last I read they didn't give one...? I don't own their stuff but have considered it (read through lyrics and read reviews) and there isn't much that comes off as offensive?

toggletoggle post by moenli at Jan 21,2009 6:06pm
no, they're not offensive in the least

toggletoggle post by LPCustom at Jan 21,2009 6:08pm
Totally lame. While we're on the topic though is the new Faceless album worth buying? I really like everything if it's good haha so that helps no one at all, but does it offer something interesting or just more tech death?

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at Jan 21,2009 6:09pm
they offend me

toggletoggle post by moenli at Jan 21,2009 6:16pm
well, they kinda don't do the shit i loved on their first full length but it is solid if you like proggy tech death

they kinda just cut the groove and heaviness right out of their sound on the new one

really? i figured that would be the case which is why i never bothered pick it up. the groove is what i love about this band. i've had the main riff to Pestilence stuck in my head all day.

toggletoggle post by narkybark   at Jan 21,2009 6:26pm
It's definetely a different feeling album than the first. I like it, but I do like tech death kinda stuff so there you go. It has a much spacier sound; they took a few risks and tried something different. There's a couple of the tunes on their myspace if you want a sample.

toggletoggle post by moenli at Jan 21,2009 6:40pm
yea, they certainly grooved with the best of em but such if life

Sure the Palladium is a shithole, but shouldn't extreme metal be played in a shithole?

This is why half of the best metal videos are in basements with pipes and water and vermin and shit all over the place
(the other half are in snowy grim forests with frozen wintery grimness)

I'd rather hear what bands are actually playing...and bands can continue filming videos in their moms basement.

I'm going to be seeing NFG, Set Your Goals and Verse there in April. I expect a high population of homosexuals.

toggletoggle post by moenli at Jan 21,2009 8:25pm
hey man, Bayside's on that tour too...

i actually really dig their new album

toggletoggle post by archaeon at Jan 21,2009 8:28pm
My friend loaned me their self titled and i can't get into the singer at all. music is good though.

toggletoggle post by porphyria at Jan 21,2009 8:31pm
blah blah, poopy ka-ka bands...back on topic!

toggletoggle post by moenli at Jan 21,2009 8:32pm
their new album is kinda more like a power-pop weezer-y sound than just their generic pop punk stuff

toggletoggle post by archaeon at Jan 21,2009 8:34pm
I've been on a pop-punk thing for the last few months. Probably why their singer bugs me, doesn't have the pop punk sound to his voice.

I am looking forward to the House of Blues in Boston. I bought tickets to go see Black Label Society in April! Stoned, boozed and drunk baby!

Wear a condom to that NFG show. I'd hate to see you get AIDS IRL.

I don't think this is correct...I think Disney just owns/runs a few in California.

i thought that was only the HoB around Disney property. wasn't Deicide's live album "When Satan Lives" recorded at a House of Blues?

toggletoggle post by porphyria at Jan 22,2009 10:48am
yeah, I'm pretty sure I've heard of DM bands playing HOB's...good to know they don't have control over all locations and given that there isn't a Disneyland in the near vicinity they probably won't own the Boston location.

any venue on disney land is subject to their censorship. not just hob.
