Oh wait, that was Obama talking about Patriots sitting by a frozen river by a campfire.

that was a good speech. i hope he is more than just a good speaker.

toggletoggle post by timma at Jan 20,2009 12:57pm
I like Obama, and I think he's a major upgrade from Bush. The man sure can give a speech.

BUT, I heard a whole lot about America's problems and how we've gotten through tough times before, and absolutely nothing about the plans to fix them.

i think that was a smart move. everyone wants to hear the tactics to solve the problems but then he'd have all of these expectations to live up to. his speech was more or less an inspirational one stating that things can get better with hard work.

Yeah, hate Bush or not, that was lame. You have to give a "little respect" just for the soul purpose of being the prez I guess. Sometimes I actually felt a little bad for the redneck when he was in office.

Spoken like a new school, bleeding heart dem. enjoi your bi-partisan beat off fest...

When are people going to understand that the scaffolding of the American government it self, will never let one man (a president) deviate too far from the special interests of a very small percentage of the country. Especially considering whats at stake for this country with the foreign climate, and the current financial mess.

The forefathers of this country were radical cats who had the fortitude to make actual change regardless of agenda.

Yes!
They were slave owners.
Yes they drove the indians to the near corners of their own country (i.e: trail of tears etc..BUT not the point) whats more important is that these men were establishing a government that was clearly undefined and more malleable--thereby giving them the opportunity to make legit "change."

If you equate change with something as 'mechanismal' as someone's diction, rhetoric and skin color then you may as well return to the flock.

Meet the new boss...same as the old boss.

My prediction for 09?
No foreign attacks.
No failures.
Just a suffer fest,
as was alluded to in his inaugural speech when he quoted G. Washington.

I just think we need more realism in our lives.

Can't wait for the fuckfest to end.

I hope things take a turn for the better, but I'm skeptical.

And even if improvements are made, we're going to have at least a few very rough years ahead. That much was not contingent upon who was elected. Those wheels have been in motion for years.

I don't think I'm smarter than most, I just stated my opinion same as you minus the political jabs.

While I agree with your statement about our forefathers, I would think it's general knowledge that the president can only do so much and to a certain extent especially in the present. But to just imply that some degree of change will never be accomplished by any president just sounds pessimistic for the sake of being pessimistic. Like Limbaugh, hoping that Obama fails and accusing everyone of being sheep just because they show a ounce of hope for improvement, ect. I know you don't classify the fact that Obama is the first black president as legit change but I think it is, even if it's just a cosmetic one. If he were speaking 'ebonics' I'd be a bit worried. haha.

We shall see what happens, I'd hope things at least get a little better for everyone elses sake and mine.

i think this needs to stop.
everyone keeps saying "he's better than bush" "he's a step up from W"
etc.

listen, that means nothing!
saying better than bush is like saying thinner than me..most people are

it's like saying "more comfortable than jerking off with sandpaper"
most things are.

see what i mean?

what's the matter saying something is a major upgrade or better than something else when it clearly IS?

most people are thinner than you and probably get way hotter chicks.

compared to bush, obama is like jerking off with ky jelly compared to sandpaper. you can keep the sandpaper, kthnx!

i am sick of people stating that lame and obvious point.
it's reptitive and obnoxious.
that's what's wrong with it.

the weight thing was just a comparrison....it's actually pretty easy for me to get girls i am attracted to since i am (and i always have been, even when i was 19 and 200 pounds lighter) attracted to 2 types of women.

pale skinned, big tittied, well proportioned, overweight white girls

and shy asian immigrants.

almost every woman i have slept with fits into one of these two cattergories, including my current girl, who i have extremely happy with for 3 years now.

so in short, i get girls that i consider gorgeous (regardless of anyone else's opinion of them), and my sex/love life is completely irrelavant to my analogy anyways.

and we all know anything is better than bush....but obama is nothing but false hope....he's not as great as youliberal sissies all seem to think....you'll see

If you're making $250,000 gross annually, you should be pretty damn comfortable. Just because you give up a bunch for taxes like everyone else doesn't mean that it's no longer the 'land of opportunity'. Try making that much money in Cambodia, ect. where it would be a luxury to even have a TV.

Rich, poor, whathaveyou, money is worthless, has no value and is no longer backed up by anything. It's a piece of paper that is meaningless. We are controlled by the Federal Reserve (I work in the fahkin' building for Christ's sake) and are falsely convinced that money really does have value. It doesn't. Our WHOLE society is based off of money. You think the really rich give two shits about the average blue collar American? Fuck no. It's the last thing on their minds. shelter, food, clothing, and knowledge.

we don't "need" : videogames,dvds,tvs,cars,cable,internet,15 guitars, alcohol, drugs, or anything else which your body doesn't require. best thing to do is to move to the wilderness and live off of the land. no money, no worries, nothing. just fresh air, animals to fap with, and food. sounds good to me.

Which is exactly the problem. The majority of Americans take a number of things for granted, which ultimately blinds them of their necessities and goals. The apex of western civilization was reached during the Renaissance (although a little too religious for my taste) and has been on a decline since.
First the industrial revolution, and not the digital revolution. We're killing our planet, squabbling over "MONEY", arguing over what religion is right, and watching America Idol.
we're doomed, obama at least supplies hope to a large portion of our country. that's a start.

If you're making over $250K pay your taxes, shut the fuck up, and be happy you're making that much money. Your tax rate is not going to be anywhere near 50%.
People making less than that will see their taxes go down. Good. Fuck welfare for rich people. They don't need it. Trickle down economics didn't work in the 80's, its not going to work now.
The myth of the welfare queen is so overblown and a bunch of bullshit that republicans use to distract people from noticing where the lions share of their taxes are really going. (the pentagon). ask anyone you know who works for the Massachusetts Department of Transitional Assistance....or The Department of Public Health

i deal with these "mythical creatures" every fucking day

i shit you not, right now i am just sitting down from helping a woman who dropped out of high school, has never had a job, has six kids, four "babydaddys", and she came from a mother on welfare.

so you are completely out of line on that one buddy.

i said that people on welfare are part of the problem....that was including whites/white trash.....at what point, Josh, did i say "darkies" or "immigrants" on welfare in this thread???

although now that you mention it, there is a (bigger than most of you know) problem with illegals getting state and federally funded free shit (wic, healthcare, food stamps/ebt etc.)....and it is one of many problems.

yes, they should tax the fuck out of wealthy.
yes, they should help people who really need it.

but they also should look into not helping people that don't really need/deserve the handout, and not raise anyones taxes who has/earns under a million a year....

you all can talk that shit, because you are paycheck-to-paycheck fuckers like i am.

but i imagine, if i started my own brewery and worked my fat ass off to make it a success, i'd be angry as shit when i broke that 250k mark, and my paychecks got SMALLER!!!!!!

and i think any of you in a similar situation would be just as pissed

I didnt say they don't exist. Obvioulsy there are people who abuse the system. I said the issue is totally overblown. Look at any piechart of where our tax dollars go. Welfare is nothing compared to the money the pentagon wastes.
And yes, they are a minority among all of the people on welfare. Most people on welfare need it and use it to get back on their feet.
Your job has skewered your outlook. Look up some actual stats instead basing your opinion on the anecdotal evidance of what you see at work everyday.

And I asked why are you in this thread because it would be nice to actually have a discussion/arguement with people who have actual opinions other than "everybody sucks". We already know that. It seems like every time someone mentions Obama, you or someone like you feel a irrepressible urge to come in remind us that Obama is not descended from Heaven and here to fix everything. Nobody here thinks that. Nobody here acts like they think that. Its annoying.

I know he will be doing these things because of what he's voted on in the senate and because of the people he's elected to his cabinet like Rahm Israel Emanuel and Dennis Ross.

I don't like the mind set that anyone who doesn't support Obama is against blacks, thinks he's a moslem terrorist, or is a die hard republican that automatically hates democrats what his supporters seem to have.

I have no problem with a black female president who wasn't even born in the country and is part of a political party i've never even heard of.

I care about there stances on the issues that I think threaten the prosperity of the country (like the war in the middle east, the support of Israel, support of the federal reserve, and no agenda to solve the national debt).

Obama supports the murder of women and children in gaza. He will do nothing to solve the economic collapse of the dollar or the national debt, he will put pressure on(if not invade) Iran for no reason, and I know this because of the things he and his cabinet have voted for.

From Project Vote Smart:

* The Problem: Iran has sought nuclear weapons, supports militias inside Iraq and terror across the region, and its leaders threaten Israel and deny the Holocaust. But Obama and Biden believe that we have not exhausted our non-military options in confronting this threat; in many ways, we have yet to try them. That's why Obama stood up to the Bush administration's warnings of war, just like he stood up to the war in Iraq.
* Opposed Bush-Cheney Saber Rattling: Obama and Biden opposed the Kyl-Lieberman amendment, which says we should use our military presence in Iraq to counter the threat from Iran. Obama and Biden believe that it was reckless for Congress to give George Bush any justification to extend the Iraq War or to attack Iran. Obama also introduced a resolution in the Senate declaring that no act of Congress – including Kyl-Lieberman – gives the Bush administration authorization to attack Iran.
* Diplomacy: Obama supports tough, direct presidential diplomacy with Iran without preconditions. Now is the time to pressure Iran directly to change their troubling behavior. Obama and Biden would offer the Iranian regime a choice. If Iran abandons its nuclear program and support for terrorism, we will offer incentives like membership in the World Trade Organization, economic investments, and a move toward normal diplomatic relations. If Iran continues its troubling behavior, we will step up our economic pressure and political isolation. Seeking this kind of comprehensive settlement with Iran is our best way to make progress.

Good post Pam! How the hell if you ignore someone completely make things better? Bush and Cheney were idiots for believing in that

"We cannot allow Iran to get a nuclear weapon. It would be a game-changer in the region. Not only would it threaten Israel, our strongest ally in the region and one of our strongest allies in the world, but it would also create a possibility of nuclear weapons falling into the hands of terrorists. So it's unacceptable, and I will do everything that's required to prevent it.

And we will never take military options off the table. And it is important that we don't provide veto power to the United Nations or anyone else in acting in our interests.

It is important, though, for us to use all the tools at our disposal to prevent the scenario where we've got to make those kinds of choices. And that's why I have consistently said that if we can work more effectively with other countries diplomatically to tighten sanctions on Iran, if we can reduce our energy consumption through alternative energy so that Iran has less money, if we can impose the kinds of sanctions that -- say, for example, Iran right now imports gasoline even though it's an oil producer because its oil infrastructure has broken down.

If we can prevent them from importing the gasoline that they need, and the refined petroleum products, that starts changing their cost benefit analysis, that starts putting the squeeze on them. Now, it is true, though, that I believe that we should have direct talks not just with our friends but also with our enemies, to deliver a tough, direct message to Iran that if you don't change your behavior, then there will be dire consequences. If you do change your behavior, then it is possible for you to re-join the community of nations.

Now, it may not work, but one of things we've learned is that when we take that approach -- whether it's in North Korea or in Iran, then we have a better chance at better outcomes. When President Bush decided we're not going to talk to Iran, we're not going to talk to North Korea, you know what happened? Iran went from zero centrifuges to develop nuclear weapons to 4,000. North Korea quadrupled its nuclear capability. We've got to try to have talks understanding that we're not taking military options off the table."

Obama wants diplomacy, not war. And if your requirements for president are doing nothing, letting Iran have nukes, and sitting with our thumb up our ass than you're out of your fucking mind. Point blank.

Strange. they are drastically intelectually ranging. Yet they vote the same on every political issue, and have the same stance on practically everything.

We are looking at 4 more years of Bush, but at least the speaches will sound prettier.

I guess nikko is still mad that his boy lost. The guy has been in office one fucking day. at least give him the benefit of a doubt see what he can do and if after 4 years is the same shit then you can talk shit about him

I am still pissed that my boy lost. I don't haveto give him the benefit of the doubt because I know what he votes for and I know what he's about. He's going to increase military spending, increase the empire, support israel, destroy your dollar, and has no plans to pay the national deficit.

So wait.. what was the difference between him and bush again?

Wow so you know the President of the USA huh? I wish I knew him. How do you know he's gonna do all those things? You need to stop reading nonsense shit from racist sites. Do you have a problem with him because of his last name or because he's mulatto? just be honest

I care about there stances on the issues that I think threaten the prosperity of the country (like the war in the middle east, the support of Israel, support of the federal reserve, and no agenda to solve the national debt).

people accusing non-obama supporters of things like being racist, are just as biggoted as the views they are accusing people of having.

Obama supports the murder of women and children in gaza. He will do nothing to solve the economic collapse of the dollar or the national debt, he will put pressure on(if not invade) Iran for no reason, and I know this because of the things he and his cabinet have voted for.

and I know people will continue to support him until the first time he trips over words in a speach, or they make fun of him on the colbert report.

I didn't say you were racist, I just asked you a simple question you can not answer for some reason. I really don't give a fuck if you are but just have the balls to say it that way I won't waste any breath on you. Your boy McCain already got over his defeat why can' you??

bennyhillifier

By saying my news sources are 'racist websites' you're insinuating I'm racist.

And for the record.. when did I ever support Mccain? That would be the day.

My bad dude for insulting you but how can you say bad stuff about a president who's been in office for just 2 days? All I'm saying is whatever you heard or read about him is probably bullshit unless you have a time machine and already saw the future. there's a reason why american people elected him to be our next leader, like McCain said he inspired people.

I hear you man, but I really think with our economy being the way it is that we need a president that didn't vote to fund the Iraq war, that doesn't give 3 billion dollars of our tax money to israel every year, and that doesn't support the creation of our money based on debt.

Taxes are too high, living standards are too low, and too many people are dieing.

War is archaic to a fault, and I am willing to say anything I need to get the message across that too many innocent people are dieing, we're spending too much money, and our economy is hurting from this.

I don't advocate war, I don't advocate preaching democracy in foreign nations that don't welcome it, and I don't think it's a good idea to give 3 billion dollars a year so that israel can destroy people that are no threat to the US. And I REALLY don't think we need to continue feeding our war machine when 85% of the American people don't support war in the middle east.

Does that sound bigoted, racist, and republican?

Look, I hope you guys prove me wrong. I don't want the US to invade Iran.

As it stands now, Iran is not a nuclear power. Israel is. They have nuclear weapons (which JFK wanted inspected weeks before he was killed). They use their military might to exterminate arabs.

I would suggest reasons like that are why places like iran and Iraq don't support us. (which the leaders of iran and iraq have actually been quoted saying).

I think if we didn't indirectly support things like the genocide of arab people, then we wouldn't haveto be affraid of arabs having Nuclear weapons (which it doesn't really matter if they did, how much damage do you HONESTLY think they could do to the US?)

I want Obama to live up to the expectations people have of him, but from what i've seen on his and his cabinet's voting record, we have more turmoil in front of us.

So let's hope I'm wrong. Let's hope he brings peace to Iraq, afghanistan, Palestine, Israel, and Iran.

if you want real freedom find as many friends as you can, find some land, find a water source, and cut yourself off from this cancerous empire before it conscripts you in its next conquest of Gaulish territory.

Even if you own land you are still beholden to pay fucking property taxes to the state or you loose it all. Fucking slavery.
