toggletoggle post by Martins   at Jan 4,2009 12:25pm
Yeah I thought they already did years ago until I went there to get Palladium tickets with Grant. They're a pretty shitty company.

toggletoggle post by MillenialKingdom  at Jan 4,2009 12:41pm
I'm glad. They charge like $18-19 for a CD. I only buy CDs at Bullmoose and Newbury Comics anyway.

toggletoggle post by anon is mouse at Jan 4,2009 12:59pm

finally.

First they buy out Strawberries, Coconuts, Sam Goody, The Wall and any other music chain, then they go. Not very surprising, they were by far the worst.

seconded, and if it's all stores are there major blowouts going on everywhere?!

toggletoggle post by xmikex at Jan 5,2009 9:16am
When you were a little nurler buying Morbid Angel cds with Strawberries gift certificates did you ever think you'd live to see the day when over priced mega chain music stores were an out dated concept?

toggletoggle post by dreadkill  at Jan 5,2009 9:19am
anyone who went there to buy anything other than concert tickets does not know how to manage their money.

The humanity. I actually did use those certificates for Repulsion and Sadus tapes. Also Aphex Twin "I care because you do" from a gift card I stole from my friend. Im going to hell.

toggletoggle post by dreadkill  at Jan 5,2009 10:05am
what's a nurler? i don't think i've heard that term before.

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at Jan 5,2009 10:11am
good. any place that sells cds for 19.99 is retarded.
Anyone remember "The Wall" ? Pre-FYE

toggletoggle post by inject-now at Jan 5,2009 10:20am
The Wall sucked but when I was 12 I got Possessed "Beyond The Gates" there on tape. It was an important day in my childhood.

toggletoggle post by dreadkill  at Jan 5,2009 10:22am
i worked at the wall at the burlington mall back in the day. it was a very corrupt place.

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at Jan 5,2009 10:25am
I swallowed some XXX hotsauce at the Taunton mall one day and puked some of it up in the Wall there. I guess there was a hole in the carpet there for a few years.. not sure if it's still there with the current FYE

C.dead and I used to rob that place blind. All of my KD/MF tapes came from there.

toggletoggle post by dreadkill  at Jan 5,2009 10:32am
stealing was common at that store.

toggletoggle post by dreadkill  at Jan 5,2009 10:33am
most of us should've been fired from that store.

toggletoggle post by Yeti at Jan 5,2009 10:37am
good. what a fucking ripoff this place is/was. they did have a surprisingly good metal selection, so i would go and listen to something on the sample machine they had, then go buy it at Newbury Comics.

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at Jan 5,2009 10:40am
Newbury Comics has been a hit or miss lately for me. Some of them have a great metal selection, and some don't have jack. I went to the one in Avon last week (huge one for that matter) and they didn't have shit. They didn't even have much of ambient music in their selection; I couldn't even find Brian Eno or Tangerine Dream.

toggletoggle post by orgymf@work at Jan 5,2009 11:14am
hey wait....are all stores doing blowout/out of business sales??
there is one in the north attleboro mall, could be time for some cheap dvd's

toggletoggle post by shatteredliz   at Jan 5,2009 11:44am
Um, I haven't heard about this. They're probably closing some stores, but that's about it for now.

toggletoggle post by xanonymousx at Jan 5,2009 11:58am
its even on their website, this place is done.

toggletoggle post by aril at Jan 5,2009 12:02pm
I think it's safe to say that this is one good thing about the economy going bad.

toggletoggle post by FuckIsMySignature at Jan 5,2009 12:04pm
ONLY NEWBURY COMICS IS REAL.

toggletoggle post by shatteredliz   at Jan 5,2009 12:05pm

Real true. Aside from anything metal related, It's not guaranteed to find anything worth buying. I lucked out a little while back finding the latest lustmord release, that was the last time I walked out of there 100% satisfied.

Newbury Comics well selling Dawn - Slaughtersun for 35 bucks, but it was ONLINE. My friend got that immediately. That was the last good thing I've heard about it.

Yes, they're closing stores, not going out of business.

Trans World Entertainment Corp. expects to close about 130 stores over the next few weeks, including the Coconuts outlet at Stuyvesant Plaza in Guilderland, N.Y., a company official said.

"We're constantly reviewing our store portfolio," said John Sullivan, chief financial officer. "With all of these the leases are expiring. Most are underperforming stores."

The closures will leave Trans World with about 830 stores, most of which operate under the brand name f.y.e. (For Your Entertainment). Trans World closed a similar number of stores at the end of 2006, Sullivan said.

WAIT! That's from December 2007! Haha!

toggletoggle post by boblovesmusic   at Jan 5,2009 12:59pm
the FYE in Novi, Michigan (random I know) was actually pretty good. I found a bunch of decent stuff that I wasn't expecting to find (Eldritch being one of them).

The Newbury Comics in Harvard Square eats my money like nobody's business (pun intended kinda hehe). Leafing through that place is so much fun cus you can find all sorts of random things. I found a Lebanese anti-islamic black metal band there which I was really surprised to find as well as Archaeon (though no surprise there hehe).

toggletoggle post by arilliusbm  at Jan 5,2009 1:29pm
I remember hearing about some anti-islamic bands from the middle east. There was this one band that FMP was scoping out and everyone was giving him shit because his he still claimed to be a member of islam. he only did it because he was "risking his life" for black metal and called everyone else pussies. can't remember the band, though. it's blew chunks.

toggletoggle post by boblovesmusic   at Jan 5,2009 2:59pm
The band I picked up was Ayat. I had their EP before which I love. Insane band. Incredibly noisy black metal at parts, some middle eastern touches here and there.

FYE bought up a shit ton of Coconuts stores in the Albany area and then either shut them down....or turned them into an FYE store. And then since then probably half of those have closed. FYE has been making statements for years about them closing stores.

If you google "FYE Closing" you'll get hundreds of hits from different newspapers around the country talking about different FYE's closing over the past 2 years.
