I have one as well. Currently, it is my primary guitar head. Not bad for $540 ow what ever I paid for it a year and a few months ago.

The only Peavey head I like. Definitely cheap for the quality. Composted uses one proudly.

why the fuck would you buy a valveking head for 530 when you could go used on craigslist and get an xxx head for $500. i got an xxx head for $500 and a mesa recto cab w/ celestion v-30's for only $950 total.

I want one for my backup/practice head so bad...

Comparing the XXX to the Valveking is like comparing apples to oranges. The XXX has a much thicker body to it and more grainy distortion. The Valveking is smoother and classier.

I dont know much about the XXX,even though I used one on the Immolation tour, but i could imagine youd have the option of achieving the same smooth sound that the Valve king has in comparison. My roommate Bill just moded a valveking which supposedly didnt have a whole lot of headroom prior to being tinkered with.

BTW i bet a valveking on craigslist will not only be cheaper then one from Guitarcenter, but probably cheaper then a XXX on craigslist for that matter.

I agree, id definitly get one for the same reason so i dont have to keep lugging my 5150 around. But I really shouldnt complain since i really only need my 5150 for like the 1st of every never these days. doh

I'm considering the 2x12 combo for practice and just running it through my cab and possibly bringing it to smaller shows.

I like my XXX. I heard the Valveking (ex-LAZ guitar player Jeff has one + 98263928 other heads) -- it's definitely "smoother" as MFR says, but I like the overdriven nastiness of the XXX. Plus, I need the extra gain to cover up my sloppy playing.

I own a Valveking 100 head, and as much as it does sound good on its own, it sound absolutely righteous running a Maxon OD808 into it! I personally like it better than the other peavey heads, but that being said, it's quite different from the rest, and honestly, the only reason it isn't as costly as the "better" heads is because it lacks in "features" such as a decent switching system (vk100's switching system blows), volume adjustable effects loop (no volume adjustment and the send/return jacks are on the front rather than the back which in my opinion is a downfall), and maybe a few other things that i'm forgetting. Also, having used it in the recording studio next to a Deizel Einstein, both Mesa Boogie Double and Triple Rectifiers, a Marshall JCM800, and a Genz Benz El Diablo, I can definitely say that Peavey did not skimp out on quality as far as sound is concerned. This amp definitely holds its own in the field of quality. I definitely think it's the best tube head for the price. Hope this is helpful.

Nice little stickers on your valveking head too

I just got one. I like it and am thinking about snagging that Maxon OD808 for boost. I got mine off of ebay(sorry, grant for finally not pulling the trigger on your shockwave when I had the money) with the switchboard and speaker cable for below 300 bucks. No one really bet on it and it was in near-perfect condition. Definitely an excellent grab if you don't want to spend 500,600,1000+ on a new tube head.
