SEDALIA, Mo. --- A Sedalia hunter bagged a big buck on the second day of firearms season, but the kill caused him a lot of pain.

Forty-nine-year-old Randy Goodman said he thought two well-placed shots with his .270-caliber rifle had killed the buck on Nov. 19. Goodman said the deer looked dead to him, but seconds later the nine-point, 240-pound animal came to life.

The buck rose up, knocked Goodman down and attacked him with his antlers in what the veteran hunter called "15 seconds of hell." The deer ran a short distance and went down, and died after Goodman fired two more shots.

Soon Goodman started feeling dizzy and noticed his vest was soaked in blood.

So he reached his truck and drove to a hospital, where he received seven staples in his scalp and was treated for a slight concussion and bruises.

I AM a deer hunter and missed a buck on Turkey day morning. Fucker came to within 10 yards of me at appx. 9AM while I was picking my shit up and preparing to move. My rifle was leaning against the tree. I managed to pick up the rifle and cock the hammer back (TC Encore .280) without him noticing. Then as he dropped his head behind a tree, I snapped the rifle up and he heard me. I sighted his ass in at about 20 yards as he ran off in the hopes to fire a shot into his ass and knock him down, and second shot in for the kill. Needless to say, I missed by about 6 inches left and blew a small oak apart.

FUCK!!!!!! I was so ashamed that I didn't go to Turkey day dinner, instead I hunted...looking for retribution but he didn't show up again that night.

If I had just moved more slowly, more fluid. He would have been a very dead buck and in my freezer by now...but alas, hindsight is always 20/20. I'll try to be more calm next time...I just couldn't get over how close he got to me and how easily I was thinking that I got my deer. They are dumber than shit, but so incredibly in touch with their surroundings...any noise, any scent that is slightly off and they're outta there, and fucking FAST.

God, I love deer hunting. But then again, this is why it's called hunting and not just shooting. Anyone can pull a trigger, but a real hunter can bring home the meat. I made a n00b mistake, and now I'm paying for it with an empty freezer.

2 weeks left in Maine...all muzzleloader.

You so sure he didn't eat all your cranberry sauce, hump your wife, stick his dick in your stuffin, drink your whisky and scratch your rare Agalloch CDs just for good leverage while you were were out all day lookin for him and his boyz? Vengeful fuckers, those bucks.

Don't feel bad. The last time I deer hunted I missed a 4 pointer with my slug gun -- and it was that close. I got the buck fever shakes and shot right under him (found the slug in a tree). I felt like such an asshole, then my hunting buddy proceeded to leave messages on my answering machine: "Hi Andy, this is Mr. 4 Point Buck, just wanted you to know that I am alive and well. Bye!"

I'll stick to birds/shotgunning, it's what I'm good at and what I like best.

Any rttp users interested in those clothes get in touch and I'll make you a good deal, stranger.

toggletoggle post by largefreakatzero at Oct 23,2012 10:56am
Is that you selling the camo?

toggletoggle post by Alx_Casket  at Oct 23,2012 10:58am
yeah

Looks like nice stuff, but I just really don't need any more gear. I have a foolish amount of hunting/fishing crap as it is.

toggletoggle post by Alx_Casket  at Oct 23,2012 11:03am
alright. $60 for the whole lot if anyone else from here is interested.

toggletoggle post by largefreakatzero at Oct 23,2012 11:23am
Shit, that's a great price. So what does $60 get me? Are they all tall sizes?

toggletoggle post by Alx_Casket  at Oct 23,2012 11:26am
Pretty sure they're all XXL, I can measure them when I get home but I don't remember if it was specified "tall" or not.

toggletoggle post by largefreakatzero at Oct 23,2012 11:34am
The pic of the "Neet" jacket tag on your CL post was a tall size, that's why I asked. I'm 6'4" and 250+ currently -- XLT is relevant to my interests.

toggletoggle post by Alx_Casket  at Oct 23,2012 11:37am
I'm 6'1, I'll try on the clothes and let you know if it's long on me.

FYI I'll be in the Manchester/Bedford area Saturday afternoon if you're around then.

toggletoggle post by largefreakatzero at Oct 23,2012 12:26pm
Yeah, that might work -- I should be outta the woods by the afternoon. Also, just let me know what is included -- looks like a couple jackets and a pair of bibs?
