I don't care if I have to see this movie by myself. this was one of my favorite books as a kid. I think it looks promising.

toggletoggle post by mikeofdecrepitude at Sep 29,2009 10:27am
I enjoyed this book as a child. Saw a preview for this when I recently went to the movies. Similar to what Cronenberg did with Burrough's, to make Naked Lunch into a film; Spike Jonez not only consulted and worked with Maurice Sendak, but Sendak approves of his visual adaptation. I didn't think it looked half bad from the previews.

toggletoggle post by FuckIsMySignature at Sep 29,2009 10:28am
he also did "Three Kings" which in my opinion, is a fucking awesome movie. the part with the dude getting shot in the stomach in slow motion was incredibly unsettling.

toggletoggle post by IvoryandSteel  at Sep 29,2009 10:33am
just wait till The Hobbit comes out. THAT will be a disaster.

toggletoggle post by Yeti at Sep 29,2009 10:35am
no way, i have full faith in Peter Jackson's oversight to keep The Hobbit awesome. ruining The Hobbit would be an atrocity of unspeakable proportions.

toggletoggle post by IvoryandSteel  at Sep 29,2009 10:35am
jackson bailed on the project. hence why i have little faith.

toggletoggle post by mikeofdecrepitude at Sep 29,2009 10:36am
I hope Smaug and the trolls are depicted well.

toggletoggle post by IvoryandSteel  at Sep 29,2009 10:37am
i guess now would be a good time for someone to start a Hobbit thread.

toggletoggle post by Yeti at Sep 29,2009 10:38am
are you sure? according to what i've read recently he is still working on it, i know he did the screenplay. Del Toro is directing it, so not all faith is lost.

doubtful this thread is now about the Hobbit

toggletoggle post by IvoryandSteel  at Sep 29,2009 10:40am
see now i'm confused because a few sites said that jackson bailed and other sites say he's still working on it with del toro. now i must investigate...

::Hang's head::

toggletoggle post by IvoryandSteel  at Sep 29,2009 10:43am
okay, yeah, ur right. looks like he's still a part of it. i guess about 2 years ago they had had some falling out with new line cinema and jackson bailed. but now he's back.

::few:: all faith in mankind is rekindled.

toggletoggle post by Martins   at Sep 29,2009 10:43am
lol more del Toro hate. Don't get it.

toggletoggle post by mikeofdecrepitude at Sep 29,2009 10:44am
More? Everyone sucks his dick.
Terry Gilliam FTW.

toggletoggle post by FuckIsMySignature at Sep 29,2009 10:45am
he's hit or miss. Pans Labrynth ruled but Hellboy 2 was godawful.

what happened was, they barred him from being director and everyone got pissed, which is why it hasn't been made yet. they wanted someone new to do it. so after negotiations and petitions, they agreed to let him oversee it, and write the screenplay. at least that's what i got out of it.

toggletoggle post by IvoryandSteel  at Sep 29,2009 10:47am
I've liked most of del toro's movies. hellboy was kinda shitty tho. jackson on the other hand I've loved everything he's ever done, starting with Bad Taste.

haha interesting bringing Terry Gilliam into a discussion about Del Toro, but agreed, if Terry Gilliam did this, it would be earth shattering.

This is how I feel. Pan's Labyrinth kicked ass but I remember a bunch of people hating on it in a thread a while back. Mostly del Toro hate.

Yeah, and I'm pretty sure Gilliam backs del Toro, but he supports a variety of other directors and writers as well. I personally thought that Pan's Labyrinth was completely overrated, but I know a lot of people dug it.

toggletoggle post by IvoryandSteel  at Sep 29,2009 11:03am
agreed. pan's didn't cut it for me.

Pans Labrynth is one of the most overrated movies in the past 5 years. Another true fact brought to you by your dear friend Arillius.

Why because of all the dwarves and the tone of the book? Fuck that, the movie is going to be great.
