Who says Barack Obama doesn't have what it takes to be president? Turns out, he's a distant cousin of both Dick Cheney and George Bush.

The vice president's wife, Lynne Cheney, announced her discovery yesterday while hawking her new book, "Blue Skies, No Fences," on MSNBC.

When asked if she would support Hillary Rodham Clinton because she is a woman, Lynne Cheney said, "I have to admit to a certain bias here . . . Dick and Barack Obama are eighth cousins."

Mrs. Cheney said that it was "an amazing American story that one ancestor . . . could be responsible down the family line for lives that have taken such different and varied paths."

Then asked if she supported Obama she quickly said, "No."

Obama's camp made light of the family ties. "Every family has a black sheep," said spokeswoman Jen Psaki, with tongue firmly planted in cheek.

The Chicago Sun-Times revealed the genealogical link in early September, claiming that the shared ancestors were Mareen and Susannah Duvall, 17th century immigrants from France.

The newspaper, however, claimed that the senator from Illinois and the vice president were 11th cousins.

The Duvalls are Obama's great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-grandparents, and Cheney's great-great-great-great-great-great-great-great-grandparents, the paper said.

George W. Bush and Obama, meanwhile, are 10th cousins once removed - linked through a 17th century Massachusetts couple, Samuel Hinckley and Sarah Soole, according to the Sun-Times.

While i agree, and SCIENTISTS agree, that there are obvious differences between races, they are minute, and do not legitimize your obsession with justifying your racial bigotry.

i think he's making it an issue where it isn't. i know that, while taking into account that all races and traits are subject to a bell curve, blacks dominate professional sports, and east asians have the highest IQs. facts. great. now what?

the world is globalizing. our society is now multicultural, and you can argue all day about how a mixed society is bad for progress, identity, or whatever, and i'd agree with you and the evidence to support that, but this is the new way of the world. evolution has been and will be stagnant for a long time. if you choose to breed, do it with a black chick and get the best of both worlds.

i agree with much of your logic, and i understand and fully agree with everything scientific you say, including your definition of race, but you take science and mold it to your own agenda. who else has done this throughout history?

you make race an issue, and then blame our welfare state on it. if it has anything to do with that, it's only because our society (read: this country) and fuck it, the whole world, has had a predisposed notion about race from the beginning.

there are many problems with this world, including radical islam, and bigots like you.

if half of your city all of the sudden speaks spanish, are you going to bitch, or learn spanish, while preserving your native language?

Race is an issue and always will be, as a subset of a greater issue -- inequality in individuals and castes and groups -- and we either let it define us through omission of action, or act for a better outcome.

see where we disagree is you deduct from the facts, that multiculture doesn't work. I think there is much more to blame for WHATEVER your construing as "doesn't work" and that race/race mixing is an easy place for you to lay all that blame. The inequality in castes and groups cannot be blamed on race. It just can't, studies may make it look that way to someone who wants to believe it, but there are much more things going on that make those castes and groups have those certain results in studies. Not the least of which is racism. Plain and simple. At least in this country, right from the get go, right from when their ancestors came to this country, fleeing from impoverished areas where education, and hygene at acceptable levels are rare, they had even more problems to deal with, and less options offered to them, then their european "arian" counterparts. Who I may add, mostly came from areas that may not have been educational meccas, did have it better than people coming from Somalia, Egypt, Africa, or Israel.

multiculture might work. sure, maybe it didn't work in athens, but this isn't ancient rome. america is still an experiment. the entire city of miami was brought to life by colombian drug money. peoples throughout history that stayed stagnant and isolated made great advances but wouldn't have advanced very far without input from other peoples. products of their environment in every sense of the word.

i absolutely do not think that telling immigrants to speak english is rude. they know that very well. they will have to learn it to get anywhere here, no matter where they live, and it's a fact. everybody around the world knows that you need to know english.

i used to sell instruments, and if a latin immigrant came in and spoke very little english, and wanted a guitar, well i'll sell him a better guitar if i spoke spanish, and i did. i'm not going to move or go on a killing spree, i'm gonna sell him a guitar, a japanese guitar, because i needed a paycheck, because commerce is the world language. sure i adapted to identify with him, but mostly because i wanted to get paid. i'm talking about adapting for your own good. spanish immigrants aren't going to make me leave my city.

i went to finland this summer and even though i knew that most of them speak fluent english, i crammed as much finnish as i could before i went, out of respect for a culture that is ages older than my american suburb.

trust me, i am a big fan of mexico's immigration laws, but come on, it's mexico...
