Creating chord structures in different key signatures with motherfuckin figured bass and 11th and 13th notes and shit. This is way easier to just do on a guitar and transcribe into regular notation. Fuck Mozart and his stupid face!

Anyone else taken advanced theory classes before?

going to soon, hopefully!

i'm in what SHOULD be a music composition course but said course was cancelled due to low enrollment. now i'm doing an independent study with the guy and it's proving to be quite the pain in the ass.

learning cadences and expanded chords will really help the songwriting process though...especially when your ears are telling you to do one thing and you can come up with a different inversion to make it more interesting, etc.

Ya, I can't wait to get into music theory. Right now I have to get all my general engineering classes and core requirements aside before I can get into doing my Music minor and Electrical Engineering major. I hope to eventually go to a music school but even a few classes will really help me. And I think I know enough theory to test out of Music Theory 1 and probably 2, leaving my electives open to take advanced classes.

what are notes?

i'm trying to do a minor in music too but wsc requires you to take some performance classes as part of the 18 credits you need. i'm up to 9 (12 after this class) but i sure as shit don't want to take fuckin chorus or some lame shit like that.

Are you kidding me? Chorus is awesome. I did that first semester here and did it through most of high school. It's really challenging but it's AWESOME for ear training and tonal memory. Now I'm doing Rock Ensemble (all for fun because I don't have any performance requirements) and it's a lot of fun. Don't knock what you haven't tried. <3

You should try slam notation. It's a lot better than all that other mumbo jumbo.

i'm picky enough about what my sister and i play for our acoustic thing let alone some random garbage i'd hate doing in chorus. classical guitar may be another option, though.

i think i'm familiar with this "slam" you speak of. i may have caught it somewhere on the wigger circuit.

The dude that's nailing my sister is Captain Theory Lessons, and he's got me thinking an awful lot about modes and the relative minor of whatever key we're in. Now my bandmates have to sit through me diagraming whatever key we're in so I can nail my bass triads.

ICS Vortex and Hansi Kursch both came from church choir, so it can't be all bad.

I do suppose Baroque, Romantic, and Classical music IS random garbage.
