While I would agree that Nachtmystium's latest stuff is not strictly BM (more of a stoner, BM influenced black n roll I'd say.) I can still appreciate most of what's on the latest album. It's definitely not another Demise or Instinct Decay but I don't think they are even trying to market it as BM so I don't get why you'd call them "poser BM". They are playing with Opeth after all...

nachtmystium: they sounded really good. The vocals are one of the best things aout this band. Ever scream has something behind it that makes it sound like the battle cry of an entire army of people. After the newer stuff, I honestly figured they would have come out with beads in their hair, flipflops, and free dope. They were nothing but black metal to the core. What limited proggie guitar parts they did unleash we underlaid with blast-beats. The only complaint I have is that it was a bit thin sounding where I was sitting. They pplayed 5 minutes longer than they were suppose to too.

high on fire: this band sort of grew out of the same period as mastodon, but never left the relapse family for higher ground. They play "simple" rock out songs that feature not only collective themes, but also some fast strumming complex guitar parts while the man, matt pike showboats around the stage, pointing at invisible things in the sky. Some of this facial expressions and antics look like jack black took them and caricatured them into his personal. When they started off, the sound was mixed terribly. It slowly got more balls, but still wasn't as good as nachtmystium, just louder. Watching the drummer, even the drums are "simple", but so good. They also ended 5 minutes late... Hm...

Fucking trust this shithole to start on time for once so I miss Nachtmystium.

opeth: they sounded amazing. Even if I had no idea who any of the guys were besides mikael. Might be the same bassist with short hair and with out the fancy head sways. He's short with the right sort of tattoos, but no longer looks like one of the ancient ones from the dark crystal. I think his name was mendez. The most fun person to shoot on stage was the keyboardist. Headbanging and wearing a discharge shirt. Win-Win. The band started off pretty dry. It took them about 4 songs to get into it. At that point, mikael had more back and forth with the audience. He even played a teaser cover. I don't know what it was. Missed what he was saying. I basically was just waiting for bleak. That song was awesome. Though I noticed a lot of the lead's were different that he played and he did/couldn't hit the higher notes. Not sure why, but he sang them flat. After that we got another talking session. Another treat too, mikael doing the robot. "you only want to hear that cause it's long. it's shit, but it's long" I listened from a distance and left right before the encore.

Nachtmystium I thought was good, but only saw half their set. High on Fire I napped on the railing through ... they just didn't do much for me. I'm so glad that Opeth played The Night and the Silent Water, as well as Bleak and Serenity Painted Death. Great setlist overall. The fake out cover was Soldier of Fortune by Deep Purple; they did that as a bonus track on Ghost Reveries. He also played a small riff from a Camel song earlier than that ... not sure what song it was, though. As for Mikael singing the higher notes flatter, he said something about, "having a bit of a rock n' roll voice tonight" - maybe he was sick? Eh, it was still fucking amazing. "Those pants ... smell like piss, shit, vomit, cum and more piss; and we're only like four gigs into this tour." Haha. Good ol' Akerfledt crowd humor.

So apparently Nachtmystium dropped off the tour after the Worcester show. Wonder what went down.

fucking awesome show. i missed Nachtmystium because they went on earlier, High on Fire was boring, but Opeth fucking ruled. i don't mind HoF, but it was just lame to sit through. the set list was great, though i would have prefered Masters Apprentices over The Grand Conjuration, but i can't complain. it was kind of sad when they played The Night and The Silent Water, that was probably one of the best things i've ever seen, but the crowd looked so lost. i'd say 25% of the crowd was flipping out over the song, and the other 75% were standing around trying to look cool. same thing with Serenity Painted Death, though more people were into that. but of course when they played The Grand Conjuration, the place went nuts. damn kids and their not really listening to what they say they listen too.

GoatCatalyst was somewhat drunk at the end, and we were following him around. Apparently he kind of bumped into some chubby Opeth fanboy fat guy with glasses and the kid turned around and said smack about him and how he wanted to knock him out, and then nudged me on the back and said he hoped I was with him. I turned around and looked at him and he kept walking up the stairs.
There's no point in wasting my time on these loser cunts who attend 90% of the palladium shows now. Seems like everytime I go there I'm urged to start a brawl with a bunch of kids. Now I just laugh it off.

i love being tall because all of the stupid fucking antics that go on with the crowd, like the above mentioned incident, all happen below my sight line. i just blissfully move along in the cloud line.

It's quite interesting watching an Opeth mosh pit. I remember seeing them years ago when no body moshed, people talked during their songs, and the fans weren't douchebag kids.
The next show I'm going to will be Amon Amarth / Ensiferum / Belphegor. Let's see if these kids will be just as bad.
