I've been reading about this all day as it develops. The Lions decided to meet with Rudi Johnson (recent free agent from the Bengals) and talk to him about signing him. Johnson met up with Tatum Bell (who was then under contract with the Lions) earlier in the week and the two talked about football life in Detroit. Bell put two, and two together (that Rudi was his replacement) when the team signed Johnson and released Bell.
So on the day that Johnson comes in to meet with the organization, Bell comes in to clean out his locker. Rudi Johnson leaves 2 duffel bags full of his personal stuff outside Matt Millen's office, and when he comes out of the meeting the bags are gone. They goto the security tapes, and see Tatum Bell stealing the dudes bags.
Bell ends up taking them to a female acquaintance's house, and dumping them off. The girl's story is that she hadn't seen Tatum Bell in a while until he randomly showed up and asked her to hang onto the bags.
Bell turns around and tells everybody that it was just a misunderstanding which absolutely no one is buying inlcuding Rudi Johnson. Johnson made a statement today saying he's pissed about it (especially considering somebody stole a bunch of money... and left his money clip), and that he doesn't need the cops.
Tatum Bell is supposedly on the verge of signing with the Texans... who play the Lions in week 7 where Rudi Johnson will beat the shit out of him in front of 71,000 people at Reliant Stadium. |
