abiword is a small, free word program that uses msword documents.

http://www.abiword.com

toggletoggle post by Mess at Aug 30,2008 3:00pm
i went to staples and wal*mart last night to see if they sold the program seperately but they didn't? you have to buy the whole MS office bundle for something like 300 bucks.
i just don't get it. and how are you supposed to use products like the one's you guys suggested openoffice / abiword?
my resume' is on a hard disk so i'd probably have to open the program and then the disk document ey? wtf is wroooooooooooooong w/me!!!

so i did a search for "microsoft word" on piratebay and these are some of the things that came up...

- Microsoft Office 2007 (Completely Free Courtesy Of M$)
- Microsoft Office 2007 Enterprise Yellow Edition
- Microsoft Office 2003 (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, Access,

i really don't wan't to download the wrong thing.

I would download this. I know less about the 2007 editions, although they're probably a slight improvement. Among other things, Excel, Powerpoint and Access are good "general office tools" to have mastered.

dude...... type resume template into a google search...... here i found it for you http://docs.google.com/templates?q=resume

they host these templates on google and all you do is highlight the sections and add whatever info you want. it is already formatted to look nice. they can be saved in open office or msword.

toggletoggle post by Conservationist  at Sep 2,2008 11:33am
If your layout is simple enough, you can save in RTF and move easily between appz.

Did you save in WORD format?

Ask her to open all files.

I would consider RTF, again -- word does an OK job of converting.

If not, try saving in .doc format.

If she's using WORD 2007, she may need to select "All Files," and then pick out the .doc file manually.

toggletoggle post by Mess at Sep 2,2008 8:57pm
i did ask her to OPEN in all files.
she did seem like she was off the boat from england though?

toggletoggle post by Mess at Sep 2,2008 9:03pm
Conserv: ok, so i opened it up in abiword and saved it as .doc format.
i opened it back up in .doc format and it's all changed around.
this was my problem from the beginning.
it moves all of my shit out of whack. blarghy arggggh

toggletoggle post by Mess at Sep 2,2008 9:03pm
you know what?!~?!?!?!?!
fuck it!
i'll just give it to them looking like shit.
fuck it.

toggletoggle post by Conservationist  at Sep 2,2008 11:40pm
Option 1: Use wordpad. Generates good .doc files.

Option 2: Download MS WORD.

Option 3: Do a simple layout in RTF.

Honestly, I don't like OpenOffice for the reason you described (as well as others -- it's a flaky piece of shit) and I'm sorry to hear AbiWord also has these problems.

I do not have an Office 2003 image handy or I'd upload. Sorry :(
