Had the chance to check out some tracks on the new album. I must say it blew my mind. I wasn't a HUGE fan of Ruun or even Isa per se, but this takes them to the next level. I think it goes well beyond those albums. It's a great mixture of prog/viking/blackish metal. Definitely very trippy as well.
I believe it has leaked.. but why don't you guy and buy it when it comes out?

guy'n'buy!

Enslaved is kind of a big deal in our band. LOL

toggletoggle post by aril at Aug 27,2008 11:48am
it is, but we could totally make Herugrim much more proggy sounding if we wanted to.
Not yet folks, not yet?

toggletoggle post by ............ at Aug 27,2008 12:16pm
is it still really wimpy/proggy with no blast beats and lots of normal vocals, like isa and ruun?

i really enjoyed this band until those albums. it'd be nice to see them back to form. even though i'm sure this new one isn't.

toggletoggle post by Mess at Aug 27,2008 12:21pm
i think every album they put out is different sounding.
and that works in my book i guess.

toggletoggle post by aril at Aug 27,2008 12:22pm
It's very atmospheric sounding. But yet, at times, theres parts that are more aggresive than Isa and Ruun IMO. Actually, some of the faster riffs remind me of stuff off of Eld.
But, overall, it's a much more mellow-sounding album than Ruun or Isa. Out of those 3, I think it's the best of them.

toggletoggle post by Mess at Aug 27,2008 12:31pm
nice, i'll probably dig it.

toggletoggle post by dreadkill  at Aug 27,2008 12:47pm
i downloaded it last week (i'll be buying it) and i love it. can't stop listening to it. at first, i thought it was weird, but a natural progression from isa and ruun. i have a feeling when it sinks in more i will like it better than isa and ruun and i love those albums. my favorite enslaved album will always be below the lights, but i really like vertebrae. they get further and further away from black metal with each new album, but i think it makes for a more unique sound and keeps things interesting. as much as i love the old stuff, i really enjoy the way they are progressing.

couldn't have said it better myself.

toggletoggle post by dreadkill  at Aug 27,2008 12:57pm
i'd say you said it better in your original post.

toggletoggle post by aril at Aug 27,2008 1:00pm
no way, you definitely said it better

toggletoggle post by dreadkill  at Aug 27,2008 1:03pm
NO U !!!

toggletoggle post by fleshfries at Aug 27,2008 7:52pm
Just listened to this. I'm pretty fucking blown away, can't say I've heard much like this before.

toggletoggle post by burnsy at Aug 27,2008 9:37pm
um... yeah. this cd really tickles my fancy, especially after a nice blunt.

Enslaved is the cure for Opeth
whenever someone tells me how awesome Opeth is, I refer them to 'Monumension' & 'Below the Lights' and change their lives

toggletoggle post by aril at Aug 28,2008 12:25pm
bump because I have a feeling this will be in the top 5 of "best metal albums of 2008"

toggletoggle post by theaccursedvokillist  at Aug 28,2008 1:10pm
this album is the bee's knees!

Yes. I completely agree! Also Sweden<Norway.

i can't agree with that. they are different in their own rights. i'll have to check this out, but i didn't care much for Isa and Ruun. too proggy for my likes. give me Vikingligr Veldi.

i get where you're coming from, but i think they are two completely different bands, each enjoyable in their own way.

Opeth's much more respected in the prog scene, though. You don't see Enslaved touring with Dream Theater (although that may change...).
Does anyone like Nachtmystium's new album? It's pretty cool. I'm going to their show with Opeth in Sept.
Not too sure if I'm going to stay for Opeth. Opeth + Palladium = bad news.

toggletoggle post by dreadkill  at Aug 28,2008 4:00pm
i think enslaved not touring with dream theater is a good thing. i'm not the biggest dream theater thing. i like some of their older stuff, but everything after scenes from a memory is boring to me. and seeing them live more than once is too much. i left the opeth/DT show after a couple DT songs.

i wish opeth actually had the same low profile enslaved has with the proggys. i'd much rather see those two bands tour together than either of them touring with dream theater. i haven't really given the new nachtmystium a proper listen, but i like their other stuff, so i imagine i'll enjoy it more when i dive into it.

i wish that tour was nachtmystium, enslaved, and opeth. that would be fun.

i meant fan, not thing.

toggletoggle post by aril at Aug 28,2008 4:04pm
that would be a ridiculous tour

toggletoggle post by burnsy at Aug 28,2008 6:39pm
i've always wanted to see an enslaved/opeth tour as well, with enslaved headlining of course.

toggletoggle post by DaveFromTheGrave  at Aug 28,2008 7:23pm
I listened a couple times and I can't really get into it, but then again I've never been huge on prog.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Aug 29,2008 4:59am
sounds like it would be excellent to sleep with.. er... to.

toggletoggle post by burnsy at Aug 29,2008 9:57am
it would be good for either.

toggletoggle post by aril at Aug 29,2008 10:09am
Despite being really proggy at times, I think it's an album that connects to your subconscious. It's got a great atmosphere.

toggletoggle post by quintessence  at Aug 29,2008 11:09am
My only complaint is the large amount of singing by their keyboardist..
