it looks like I'm in the need of one of these... I wanted to wait until display port was available on everything and 1440p, but with all the Wii things that carina is buying, there is no room for the now "humongous" rear projection TV.

I guess I'm looking for a wall mountable 48" to 52" LCD or Plasma TV with as many cool things as possible. any ideas?

My last roommate had a 42" Sharp Aquos. I'm sure they go bigger and that TV ruled.

My buddies got a 48 with remote controll power swivel.

Power swivel has got to be the laziest, but coolest invention ever. I highly recomend whatever tv you buy has it.

I've got a westinghouse 40' 1080p. it's pretty bitchin. I like the built in dvd slot.

I got it cuz my computer monitor is a westinghouse and was pretty good. I like this company.

im not a fan of sharp products but maybe they have changed in the past few years

jesus... $1999 for a tv. can I just get rid of the Wii? I'm going to have to clean out my back room and make a gaming area for me on the PS3 when she wants the Wii for herself. the only problem is that the "back room" isn't heated in the winter time.

and it's a mess.

I just bought a Samsung Series 6 (650) 46" and love it. Although hardcore LCD fans hate Samsung products claiming poor customer service, bad quality control, bad everything. I don't know. They sell a lot more units than say Sony or Pioneer (plasma) so could be why they see more issues.

Samsung LCDs are the way to go.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jul 2,2008 11:16am
sony's always have the best, newest everything... that breaks in a year.

If you wanna get the best tv out right now and spend a little extra check out the Samsung 650. 40,46,52" sizes. If you wanna save some cash and still get a sweet tv go with the samsung 550. Solid sets.

ham radio.
ftw.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jul 2,2008 12:27pm
mm... ham....

but matt, you were wrong wrong about bluray/hddvd... So do these samsungs (or any) have display port?

toggletoggle post by UplandMan at Jul 2,2008 3:21pm
i believe mine does have the display port... i am very happy with my 650 46". after getting it calibrated the picture is incredible. I have the Samsung Blu Ray player as well. Breath taking picture.

i looked at the 550 vs 650 for 2 weeks straight at various stores and 650 was way better looking (with that 120hz motion). But I mean if you don't want to spend that much the 550 was really good as well.

I will admit the Sony XBR5 was very impressive but damn too much loot!

LCD ftw, plasma is LAME, my bro in law has one and it pixelates like a mofo

toggletoggle post by UplandMan at Jul 2,2008 4:31pm
i agree on Plasma... its a thing of the past. but i know some hardcore tv guys that swear by the Pioneer Plasmas.

toggletoggle post by Mattkings at Jul 2,2008 4:37pm
I have grown to love my bluray player!

Ill still use my hd dvd player from time to time too.

But yeah samsung makes a quality LCD, not sure about the display ports. I know there older models did have them though.

I have a 42" sharp aquos lcd 1080p. It's a great TV. Sharp and Samsung make the best T.V.s.

toggletoggle post by powerkok   at Jul 2,2008 9:36pm
Fuck Plasma.

Sony XBR
Sharp Aquos
Samsung
LG LCD

those are all worthy...

Not cheap tho.

toggletoggle post by powerkok   at Jul 2,2008 9:38pm
Look for the contrast ratio, super black, super white, and refresh rate.
Dosent really matter what brand if all those are good.

toggletoggle post by powerkok   at Jul 2,2008 9:40pm
I got my sony xbr 50 inch rockin the 1080p bluray now, and I am still convinced I have never seen a better picture.

The aquos was the closest, and the blacks were maybe even a bit better.

46" for $2K. I think I need a new fridge before I do that.

toggletoggle post by xanonymousx at Jul 21,2008 11:17am
haha yeah fridges are expensive now.
but why have the best camera and not the best tv?
don't you ever want to put your pictures on tv?
