New site? Maybe some day.

goddamn if these main characters don't have the worst luck in the universe!
what a nasty end for the Brunette. eek.
there's another scene in there with a skinning that makes Hostel look rated G.
gonna watch it again. |
|
yeah man...that was a cool movie...definitely had some creepy scenes...good tribute to Lovecraft. |
|
duh...unless your just talking about the story..thought it was a movie thread. |
|
it's based on Shadow over Innsmouth rather than the shorter story Dagon
gotta go reread that now |
|
They made a really shitty movie out of a really cool story |
|
m'kay.
Rain on my parade, why don't ya, Statler and Waldorf. |
|
gotta see it.. im so bad with watching films.. lovecraft dude is sick though |
|
thier is an old moive from the 70's called the dunwich horror obiously based on the story. never got to see it though i herd it was pretty bad |
|
i watched a movie "the slaughter" a horror comedy. the opening credits is a bunch of cultist women getting nude chanting "cthulu fhtgn ry'leh"
and is this the movie by the same guy who did reanimator, or was it from beyond?
it's set in spain i think, the movie. |
|
keep the mind atrophied and at bay, watch movies--don't read books. |

I've read every last short story and a lot of lovecraft's poems.
Books and movies are two different mediums. there are just as many mindless, numbing books as there are movies. There have been many instances of movies being just as mind opening and illuminating as books, for example "city of god' |
|
when you say words like medium in that context, i just wanna get out a nice cheese plate, some chilled white wine, cross my legs whilst sitting (hopefully i wont crease my slacks)and converse further.
movie = spoon fed.
book = not spoon fed.
book = your vision, your ideas, evolving from YOUR experiences relative to that of the author. no matter how bad the book, there is actually something to be learned in the purpose and process of reading.
movie = a fucking diversion probobly adapted from a book, someone else's vision that is tainted and reformed by hollywood agendas, oh yeah and matt damon. |
|
In the Mouth of Madness is the best Lovecraftian horror film, and it wasn't even based off of one of his stories. |

you need to see some good movies. You seem to only think of movies as encompassing hollywood and new york films.
films and novels are two modes of expression which can produce things the other can not.
No matter how well i could describe a setting I could probably get it across better in film. Think about some place in your city that you went to as a child frequently, don't you think it would be easier just to shoot it in film than to describe it in words.
Though I do agree that books are superior, films also have their place and can be made in a way that is not mindless. |
|
If it aint Caddyshack, I ain't interested! |
|
That was one of the better Lovecraft film adaptations in that it captured the 'vibe' reasonably well but it's still lacking in many areas and really didn't follow the actual plot of the Dagon story at all.
I love the "Miskatonic" sweatshirt that annoying, geek main character wears. |
