You now have a unique opportunity to get your hands on a piece of Norwegian black metal history. Two original paintings from the BURZUM album "Dauši Baldrs" are being auctioned on eBay with a "current bid" of $555 for each painting.

These paintings were done on commision and with instructions from BURZUM mastermind Varg Vikernes and are owned by the artist Tania Stene. Varg Vikernes had quite detailed ideas on how he wanted the paintings for the album done, so the motifs can be considered to be his visual ideas.

The details of the two paintings are as follows:

1. "I Heimr Heljar" is illustrating the realm of Hel, the Old Norse goddes of death. It represents both the universe and the netherworld, with the sunwheel represents the circlular life force.

2. "Moti Ragnarokum" means "towards Ragnarok," the Old Norse ending of the world, and beginning of a new world. The painting is an illustration of both the sunset of the old world and the dawning of a new world. The sunwheel is represents the circlular life force.

Artist: Tania Stene
Technique: Oil on canvas
Size: 60 x 60 cm
Year: 1996

"Dauši Baldrs" was recorded in jail, and released in 1997. Six paintings in total were made for the album, which was released through Misanthropy Records. Varg Vikernes himself owns the original paintings "Dauši Baldrs" and "Hermošr į Helferš". The others were sold privately.

The artist Tanja Stene has designed cover art and done photo shoots for some of the biggest Norwegian black metal bands in the '90s, including ULVER, DARKTHRONE, SATYRICON, EMPEROR and BURZUM.

I dont recall......but its facinating to see youth who have weeded through what is served to impressionable kids nowadays as metal, to find something not as accessible as burzum. Today, you can find that even those who you have trusted all yer life can turn to accessible listening passed off as metal, which is sad.
