I think my two favorites would be the Chrono Cross soundtrack and the Diablo II soundtrack.

toggletoggle post by narkybark   at Mar 16,2008 7:19pm
Morrowind or Heroes of Might and Magic 3 or 4

toggletoggle post by This_Is_Heresy  at Mar 16,2008 7:24pm
All good choices so far. But my very favorite would have to be Castlevainia: Symphony of the Night

Though Castlevainia 2 on NES was a good track too

toggletoggle post by thegreatspaldino   at Mar 16,2008 7:24pm
Shadow of the Colossus
Thunderforce VI
Chrono Cross
Eternal Sonata is like 4 discs of amazing
Castlevania: Symphony of the Night

toggletoggle post by NuclearWinter at Mar 16,2008 9:00pm
Chrono Trigger, Symphony of the Night, Secret of Mana, Final Fantasy VI (III).

In all, no video game soundtrack has impressed me as much as that of Chrono Trigger. Frog's theme is probably the most epic and triumphant piece of music ever.

Chrono Cross is amazing and the music is flawless
Final Fantasy VII and X (Nobuo Uematsu is one of my favorite modern composers)
Kingdom Hearts 1 and 2 had GREAT music

toggletoggle post by thegreatspaldino   at Mar 17,2008 9:16am
no one needs to mention square games, we know nobuo is amazing.

toggletoggle post by ZenErik   at Mar 17,2008 9:19am
FFVII, FFVIII, FFVI, FFIX
Kingdom Hearts I and II

That's about it. I love the Lunar and older Suikoden games, but neither has a really memorable soundtrack.

Don't understand why everyone love's Chrono Cross' music so much. It's good, but not Yasunori Mitsuda's best work. I think Chrono Trigger's music and Xenogear's music blew it away!
Hitoshi Sakimoto does awesome music too: specifically FFT and Vagrant Story (Awesome game if you've never checked it out..)
Nobou Uematsu's FF3(6) soundtrack is unbelievable. It's definitely a masterpiece.
Don't forget about Koji Kondo's stuff though.. he's the dude who wrote Mario Bros. (most recognizable VG music of all time) and Zelda's music. My favorite of his work is Zelda: Link's Awakening music.
As far as Sega musics go, I'd have to think about that.
As far as knowing their names and stuff... sorry, I'm a VG music nerd.

i knew i forgot Xenogears! man that music was awesome, im going to download it now.

also, Time's Scar/Scars of Time alone is more than enough to carry the entire Chrono Cross soundtrack. that song is one of the best songs ever written, atleast in my vastly superior opinion it is ;)

I think the game was called Chakal, it was for Genesis, but it had an almost noisy EBM kind of thing to it. I would love to hear that shit again.

Oh, also the Motley Crue pinball game for Genesis. It was midi versions of their songs.

toggletoggle post by jackenhoff at Mar 17,2008 11:53am
That was Chakan. Sick game.Awesome music

toggletoggle post by C.DEAD at Mar 17,2008 12:11pm
right right, ChakAN. I remember it was almost like Shinobi style, but that it was also extremely difficult. Great music though.

toggletoggle post by RichHorror  at Mar 17,2008 12:12pm
Final Fantasy 7
Shinobi 2

How could I forget Lufia I & II - great catch thegreatspaldino. LufiaII's boss music is awesome. It's melodic-death-sounding.

There was this game for Genesis called "Rocket Knight Adventures" that had awesome music.. can't remember who wrote it.
Also for Genesis: Vectorman
Crusader of Centy
Comix Zone
Sonic 1,2,3 (mostly 2)
Golden Axe II
Altered Beast
Phantasy Star
many more

Actually, to tell you the truth, I've always like the music in the Kirby games. Well, the NES and Gameboy ones at least.
Marble Madness did have awesome music though.
Skyshark (NES)
Metroid (NES)
Donkey Kong (Gameboy)
Wild Arms (PS1)
Need for Speed II (PC)

Rocket Knight Adventures (Genesis)

Contra III - The Alien Wars (SNES) [I know someone already mentioned that one but it's worth repearing)

X Men 2 - Clone Wars (Genesis)

The Terminator (Genesis) [The main Terminator theme by Brad Fiedel arranged for 16 bit sound is fucking epic as hell, and the original music for the levels is great.]
