Tim Owens has now officially joined YNGWIE MALMSTEEN's band. The legendary Swedish guitarist announced the news to the Guitar World staff today when he came to the magazine's New York headquarters for an exclusive interview and photo shoot.

Malmsteen and Owens are hard at work on a new CD, which is currently scheduled for a July release.

Owens and Malmsteen previously collaborated on a cover of OZZY OSBOURNE's "Mr. Crowley", which appeared on the "Flying High Again: The World's Greatest Tribute to Ozzy Osbourne", released in March 2006 via Magick Records.

Owens recently worked with QUEENSRŸCHE guitarist Michael Wilton on demo recordings for the new SOULBENDER album (Wilton's side project). One of the demo cuts can currently be heard on the SOULDBENDER MySpace page.

Owens's predecessor, Doogie White, was a member of Yngwie Malmsteen's band for six and a half years. Doogie joined Malmsteen's band in September 2001 and recorded two albums with the legendary Swedish guitarist: "Attack" (2002) and "Unleash the Fury" (2005).

"I had a long chat with Yngwie today and it is clear that he wants to move musically in a new direction," Doogie said in a statement that was released today. "It's great news that he will be expanding on his undoubted talents both as a writer and guitarist. I just want to thank, publicly, Yngwie and the many band members past and present that I have worked with. It seems appropriate that we started our working relationship in South America in September 2001 and finished in South America in December 2007. Now, anyone need a singer??

Instead of shadow boxing on stage, Yngwie is going to make Tim eat an ungodly amount of food in order to "fit in".

Alcatrazz FTMFW!

Although I will say Graham Bonet had some serious pitch issues live, apparently.

I gotta say I sorta wish Ripper would focus on Beyond Fear, but it'd be cool to hear him with Malmsteen. Although I KNOW it won't be any different musically.

ok chan, lets throw it all on the table.
7 years ago, equals 9th grade for me. so you cant do math.
in my 9th grade picture(which dosnt exist so your nu:scene scank can eat a dink) i was absent due to skipping school to hang with jere and practice with a hardcore band called absolve which covered earth crisis songs if i remeber. shitty.. i used to love hardcore. now, i hate many hardcore kids. in highschool it was fun, now its gay. yea i had a good time at the good clean fun show. it was a great show. good kids. no dickheads. no huge goons starting fights.
as for you trashing enclitic...we did more than any band you had ever done, or ever will do in a matter of less than a year. a tour, a record deal, and 50+ shows. so fuck off. and dont try to counter this with iranach either. you came into the band after it was already established, and all the work had been done. oh and you only came to practice twice. so shut up. you trashed hardcore as much as you could when you where in a metal band. now that you suck the dick of the old school hardcore god, you claim to love it. your a follower chan. you do what is cool. oh and your band, shit.like you have the right to talk about cloning other peoples music. fuck id rather rip creation than fucking panic or what feeds the fart.you dickhead. to make a long story short. i dislike the textbook attitude in hardcore, i dislike your lack of integrity, and you need to learn to shut up.

i didnt ask for your shit, but that wont stop me from throwing it back at you.
and about your girlfriend, for lack of better term...we all used to call her uglimy. and she wore raver pants and tried to fit in by making trouble between people. man.. sounds like you these days.

Let's analyze this gibberish, shall we?

ok chan, lets throw it all on the table.

"7 years ago, equals 9th grade for me. so you cant do math."
Does it really? I mean, I knew you were a fucking retard but I didn't realize you really had stayed back. Did you even end up graduating?

"in my 9th grade picture(which dosnt exist so your nu:scene scank can eat a dink) i was absent due to skipping school to hang with jere and practice with a hardcore band called absolve which covered earth crisis songs if i remeber. shitty.."
No, its not a school photo, but its a photo in the year book of you attending school. Nice try bucko. There you are, RATM shirt on and a lovely slice of well-cooked cheese pizza in hand. Don't try to act like you were always "as cool as you are now". Get over yourself. 75% I have met refer to you as "dirt mabra".

Wow... my reply is long. Rest Below...

"i used to love hardcore. now, i hate many hardcore kids. in highschool it was fun, now its gay."
You hate many hardcore kids? I'd assume most people who were into a certain form of music at one time would at least respect it and its fans a bit more than you do. I'm kind of confused on what you even consider hardcore, but I assume it's a mix of Earth Crisis, Commin' Correct and One Life Crew. You know absolutely nothing about the shit you trash talk. I've been to quite a few shows in my day (sorry none of them would make me eligable to be old school 603... I mean, come on now... like I really wanna remember myself as a kid who went to 100 Cafe Eclipse shows... get real). When's the last time I've see you at a hardcore show? Hmmmm... maybe AN a year and half back. That's about it. I think for someone who hates hardcore kids, you might want to actually go to some hardcore shows before you trash it. Your "balls to the wall 96' hahhhhdco" is a bit different than the shit people are doing now. And it's "gay"? Arent you the same kid will flip if someone uses the "N" word, but trash talks every other race and sexual prefrence besides your own (do you even know your own race and prefrence... your percentage of black seems to change quite often depending on how much of an advantage or disadvantage it will put you at). Get a clue, d00d!

"yea i had a good time at the good clean fun show. it was a great show. good kids. no dickheads. no huge goons starting fights."
No huge goons starting fights. No dickheads. Good kids. That's perdy much the opposite of every metalcore/grind show I have ever been to. Right there, you are basically saying "my scene sucks" but defending it because you can't keep track of the lies you spit. You need to stick to one arguement and stand your ground. It's getting confusing and nothing your saying is making anymore sense. I mean, I realize this is probably the longest post you've written since your last police statement down at the station, but try to keep track of things a little better.

I loved the Enclitic. Not the music as much as the people though. As far as you doing more than I've ever done? Wow! Big deal! Do you know how hard it is to play shows? Do you know how hard it is to tour? I could book a tour right now and go on it. It's as simple as pie. You just have to find idiots as stupid as yourself willing to help out bands no one has ever heard of. Theres plenty of them out there man! And lets look at your so called "tour".

toggletoggle post by xbandnamex at Dec 23,2002 9:06am
You played what, two shows of it, and your singer quit and went home. Thats the funny thing about the:Enclitic... half of the kids want nothing to do with you. It must be because they cant live up to your awesome aura of perfection that you radiantly give off 24/7. Or is it because your a controlling fuck who knows jack about anything he talks about? "I'd have to say ISIS is my favorite powerviolence band". Okay brah! As for the record deal... I think iRANACH put out a CD on the same label as you guys, and it's already sold over a 1000 copies.

toggletoggle post by xbandnamex at Dec 23,2002 9:06am
I think I've seen at least 100 of those 500 7"s at Newbury Comics' across the New England area and last time I checked, the label didn't even slap its logo on the sleeve. That record cost them about 600 dollars to do I'm assuming. Black vinyl, blank labels with one color sleeves. It's about what I'd expect if Kill The Priest did their own 7". I'm not countering anything with iRANACH. They were good people to me and they are still my friends. Wow, I didnt go to practice. Neither did Jon, and it was at his fucking house. No one cares. Did iRANACH aspire to be something huge? I don't necessarily think so but I think the music we, oh wait sorry, they made was really fucking amazing and a lot of fun. And if you ask any of the members of iRANACH (cause I wasnt one of them I guess), I think they will say my vocals played a big part in that band. I'm not looking back on it and saying "iRANACH failed because we didnt tour or get signed". Actually, we had a couple offers from death metal labels to do a couple full lengths. Oh shit, there I go again saying "we". I apologize. They had a couple offers and did not end up taking them because they did not feel they could commit to it. Big deal. I have a couple iRANACH recordings I can listen to when I see fit and thats all I ever asked for. I wanted to play shows and have fun and release records if possible. Mission accomplished. I'm sorry we didnt live up to Derek Mabra's Grind Band Success Scale. Of course, we did have CIC flipping out over our shit live while they sat in a van during the:Enclitic's set. Oh what a shame too, with those pretty little half-assed "press packs" you made for them.

I didn't trash hardcore. As I recall, I listened to a wide variety of music althroughout my friendship with you. Everything from Bright Eyes to American Nightmare to the Dead Boys and Devourment. I was not closeminded like you. I did not stick to one style of "ultra brutal techcore" like yourself. I was not all up on one band's nuts and I definately was as far from a follower as possible. I have loved punk rock, hardcore, metal and indie rock since the start and you should at least be smart enough to know that. The Rev's and my talks of Conor Obrest at Return to the Pit should be proof enough (nice shirt Rev, btw). Don't act like my varying tastes in music is some new thing. iRANACH got me burnt out on metal. Big deal. Look at fucking Rob Wolfe... the kid listens to a million different styles of music, and I doubt you'd call him a fucking joke.

Thing is Derek, you only learn what you want to learn from the people you hang out with. You could give too shits about what they want to say, just what benefits you in the long run. That goes for boys and girls alike. I could ask just about any of the girls you have fucked (over) in the past two years, and most of them would vomit at the sound of your name. Why is that? Because you are a scumbag. People hate me. I know this! Do I care, no? I never made a fake reputation of being liked by people. You have twisted and manipulated your way through the past 20 years of your life so don't act like a fucking hero. Whenever shit gets too heavy, you go ask papa Mabra to bail your ass out. Have you ever actually paid rent?

"to make a long story short. i dislike the textbook attitude in hardcore, i dislike your lack of integrity, and you need to learn to shut up."

What about the textbook attitude in grindcore? What the textbook attitude in death metal? What about the textbook attitude in music itself? If you for one second think anything you ever do is a tidbit original, then your a fucking idiot. My band plays a mix of hardcore and straight up late 70's NY punk rock. Would you know anything about that? No. You will hear it and dismiss it off as "What Feeds The Fart". I HATE WFTF. We sound nothing like them or Panic. We sound nothing like Ten Yard Fight (who's CD has a nice shiny pic of you on the back cover). We sound nothing like any of that shit. You probably would like to check us off as talentless dorks, but until you hear or see us play then you can't say shit so your arguement is total crap. Try again.

Throw it all you want. Emily did more for iRANACH than you could even imagine. She has had the same friends for ages and is not on bad terms with anybody. Sounds like the exact opposite of you. Call her ugly all you want. She's a fucking great person and has changed a lot. Your still a little piece of shit that goes from one thing to the next like a disease. I guess shes an ugly bitch because she actually gets along with all the people who hate your guts. Congratulations for trash talking someone who has nothing to do with this conversation. All she did was supply the yearbook, not even knowing that it would result in this. High fives, scumbag. Call her "uglimy" all you want. All I've ever heard you called is "dumb nigger"... not that I'm saying thats right haha. As far as me wearing raver pants and trying to get under peoples skin? Uhhh... no?

Actually,Yngwie is alot more diverse of a musician than you guys (and alot of others) give him credit for. He is not just in your-face-shred. On The Seventh Sign, there is a bluesy number, a song that opens with a sitar, a number that is essentially classical, then some heavier hitting numbers, all with great playing that has feeling.
I believe Yngwie has the capacity to go in lots of musical directions. I just hope the new one will kick as much ass as previously.

toggletoggle post by thegreatspaldino   at Feb 27,2008 8:25am
case in point about Yngwie sounding the same... give him an acoustic guitar. look up "Yngwie acoustic guitar solo" on limewire or whatever. it sounds just like his electric shred stuff. he isnt doing any sort of chords really, its not slow and pretty... its just shred.

granted i love me some old school cheesy 80's/90's Yngwie. Heaven Tonight, Judas, I'll See The Light Tonight, Deja Vu, Black Star... I also own Magnum Opus (cant find it though!) , Rising Force, and Unleash the Fury. so you cant say i hate the guy or am insulting him. sometimes being the same is great, sometimes it does get a little stale. he also is kind of a dick... but hey, im sure after being amazing at something for like 20 years, almost anyone would get a little bit of an attitude.

True...kinda. I've never really been crazy about his songwriting, and it always sounds like he's out of his element, at least when he's doing the bluesy stuff. (Can't blame him, though. Blues sucks. :ons flame suit:: )

I wouldn't say it is "just shred". If you slow down the fast passages, they would still sound good, they have melody and feeling throughout.
Now, the Great Kat (whom I love) by comparison is straight up shred. She plays in three speeds :fast, faster, and fastest.
Yngwie on the other hand varies stuff up. I think Seventh Sign is probably the best example of that. The instrumental entitled "Brothers" is slow and with so much feeling, and is a departure from the material on for example , Rising Force.
Now, we are arguing Yngwie's musical diversity and whether he is capable of going in a different direction. The argument is rather pointless, in that, as this messageboard has shown, no one likes to concede to another poster. That doesn't matter much to me. But I would like to point out that Mr. Malmsteen plays a scalloped strat, and plays it fucking well. He can play along with an orchestra or a metal band The man has control over his instrument and can cause the sorts of noises to emit from the guitar that 99 percent of us can only dream of. So if Yngwie says he is headed in a new musical direction, I tend to believe he is capable of it.
Just as he does not like Jelly Donuts.

anyone with that kind of musical knowledge is more than capable of it, its just that he hasnt shown that he can much, but that is because he probably didnt want to.

I expect neo-classical shredding dressed up as something else.

My beef with Yngwie is that he gets waaaaaay caught up in just running through scales and not creating interesting lead patterns. If you take the time to learn his leads vs. say a Paul Gilbert, there's just a gulf in creative class.

granted. When you release as much material as Yngwie, you're going to find some variation. If he always played the same shit it would be difficult to justify his career just because he plays fast and clean.
