So who here likes walking?

if so where do you like walking, some of your favorite places.

and I know the third reply to this thread will be "to the kitchen to get a beer" or "to your mom's vag"

Some of my favorite places are downtown Salem, because I am obsessed with colonial architecture.

Lynn woods, it's big, it's quiet, there's a cave and two towers, and it's in the middle of a city.

and a place called Dunstable trail, a city in Mass right below Nashua.

Walking is great as long as you have a dog, a shotgun and your quarry is birds (grouse, woodcock, pheasant).

I walk all over portsmouth. Most of the time, I have to drag carina cause she's bored of it, but other times she loves to come.

The woods around my parents' house have inspired me in more ways than I can describe since I was very small. I was talking about this with Yeti on the way to Mark's last night; there's nothing like the sense of wonder and fantasy I get from wandering in the woods alone. I used to populate them with any number of creatures and nations when I was a kid; small wonder I ended up a gamer. ;)

If he's talking about Douglas State Forest in the same breath, he's probably talking about Purgatory Chasm in Sutton, MA. (Read up on the history when you get a chance, it's fascinating stuff.)

the one is NH is quite interesting too, supposedly three witch sisters lived there and haunt the woods. There is a stone called the "devil's footprint" in there too where they say satan stood.

New England has some interesting tales for every stone and hill and house there is.

Ames Nowell State Park in Abington.

My neighborhood in Quincy is great for walking/running. Quiet, good skylines, lots of hills for interval training.

Haha... Our Chasm has the "Devil's Pulpit," sort of a little natural auditorium; the acoustics are really crazy there.

Damn straight. This is one of my favorite sites for this crap:

http://strangene.com/

This part, in particular, grabs me:

http://strangene.com/ancient/monkcave.htm

Lots of stuff on Vikings, Irish monks, and exiled Templars too. New England was a pretty popular tourist destination before the dumb stupid Puritans showed up.

Ames Nowell is an insect pit. Nice little place but you get eaten alive.

Give me either the woods or cities. I'll wander Boston or the blue hills all day.

Walking is for broads who try to shed some of the secretary ass at their lunch break. I run almost everyday at least about 1.7m. 2 or 3 times a week I run close to 4m or more.

When I lived in Boston, I would get off work (working door and/or tending bar at the Cambridgeport), and just wander the city until the sun came up. There's something really otherworldly about having an entire city to yourself; I wouldn't trade it for a New York-style "city that never sleeps (or shuts up)". The Christian Scientist plaza is crazy at night.

i walk roughly 3 miles every day, to and from the train stations and work. i love walking, and though i miss the convenience, i can deal without a car. i have the ability to get one, i just don't care to. in terms of woods walking, Douglas State Park, Purgatory Chasm, and the various woods around the Worcester area, particularly in Auburn out past the sand pits by the Sportsman's Club. Quabbin is also a great walk, there are tons of trails.

If you ever get a chance to get to Salem, NH. Check out New england stonehenge, it's a monolithic site. I picked up a book from a series called Saltbox New England, printed somewhere in Salem MA. It's a whole series of small books on New England, the one I have is about pre-Columbus New England. There's all kinds of maps to check out stones with carvings, dolmens, and caves that were left by templars, Irish, Phoenicians, and Vikings

when i was a kid my backyard in Auburn was miles of woods before some scumbag corporation tore majority of it down to build an "adult" living community. yes i hoped it was a porn-based community too but its just 55+. but before building it, there used to be this giant rock that had steps that were obviously human carved, but ancient as fuck. the steps went up to a flat plateau about 7 feet long and 4 feet wide, with a small gulley carved in the middle. placed around the perimeter of the rock were 6 or 7 smaller stones. you could tell this was reeeeeally fucking old, i wish i could go back but noooo, some old fuck's house is in place of it.

You should perform an animal sacrifice in his living room. If he complains, tell him he's interfering with your right to practice your religion. (BTW, make sure and make up a religion, first.)

I literally live in the woods, so my entire childhood was spent romping around in the woods and along ooooooold ass train tracks every day. Then the old ass train tracks got turned into the commuter rail, right through my fucking backyard. I don't enjoy walking around as much anymore since I'm flat-footed and have terrible knees, but when I went to school in Boston, I walked around for hours on end listening to music and seeing what the city had to offer; I lost 25 pounds walking around like that, but if I ever go into Boston now I just drive. It's boring as hell walking around where I live because there is absolutely nothing besides horse farms and old people.

why not spice up your walks and rape some oldies, mark

c'mon man, live a little

toggletoggle post by GoatCatalyst   at Sep 24,2007 3:30pm
... or i suppose you could rape some horses, but that's just gross

Their holes are plastered shut. Plus there is the chance of coming across the town hermaphrodite...not willing to take that chance.

your rationale, like their holes, is airtight

purgatory chasm is pretty much my go to "outdoorsy" date.

if it's a shitty date, at least you're at a place with a sweet name.

I'm more likely to go running, but there are beautiful areas by the river in Cambridge and Watertown, the beaches in Dot and Southie, and the waterfront in Eastie with the amazing view of the Boston skyline. Those are some of my favorite places.
