$20- to see Joey Belladonna and a bunch of locals?
and to go to haverhill stadium?
I don't know I'd just rather jump the gate.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jul 12,2007 9:15am
honestly, that's really cool. I would like to shoot all those bands outdoors in the sun! that would be fun.

toggletoggle post by HeavensJail at Jul 12,2007 9:47pm
people should support this show, open airs are the shit. The lineup could be better, but every fest has to start somewhere.

I know the guys doing this show. They want to bring back the old spirt of locobazzoka before it turned into an over expensive nightmare with shitty bookings and WAAF up the ass
Soon, they'll book bigger and better metal bands.

toggletoggle post by FuckIsMySignature at Jul 12,2007 11:05pm
who does the booking for this show?

toggletoggle post by CANDY STRIPER DEATH ORGY at Jul 13,2007 12:57pm
I helped put this show on with Dream Weaver Entertainment. Yeah, next the next big metal event in Haverhill will have bands like : Nuclear Assault, Over Kill, Agnostic Front, Brutal Truth, Sick Of It All etc. We'll see who's available at that time.

toggletoggle post by FuckIsMySignature at Jul 13,2007 1:01pm
ohhh that would be awesome to play

Yes, the Dream Weaver guys are good peoples. I'm going to be a booking consultant of sorts for them in the future for GOOD metal shows.

source of contempt: remember the band, but not the name. I was a little busy getting everything set up while they played. They singer and bassist switched up at one point.

kultur: the crowd pitted around a bit. The bassplayer threw out a ton of CDs this was while he ran through the crowd. I figured that the wizard staff would have gotten a little antsy about that, but they just watched. It seemed that they didnt care at all. The music was ok. Not really what i would listen to, but i think would be more fun at ralphs or a smaller place like that.

a pillar of flames: pretty brutal death metal. Super young kids. The guitarist that did leads for the slayeer song was either like 12 or has that kid from webster's disease. Very interesting to shoot a band i dont know. Towards the end of their set, the vocalist did some ballady vocals. Eh. Isort of think they should get someone else in the band to do it. His gutterals where so good and the cleans werent really. Usually bands stick the person they like least with this job. Like the bassist they are going to kick out or something. I also hink the siner could easily be the giant from seed's younger brother.

bleed the sorrow: the dude's voice sounded an aweful lot like trevor (unearth) with some additional gutterals throw in. They were also super young and also from RI. This leads me to believe that 100% of bands from RI are youngins. My logic is fool proof. Towards the end of their set, the bassist vaulted off the stage. I would have broken my.. Er..well, everything.

bad karma: i didnt even know they were playing! Ex-meliah rage and worth going to the show just to see. These guys rule. The siner said they were filling in for meliah rage, but I'm not sure if he's lying or not. Then again, i dont see them on the stagelist. So I guess they arent playing. Anyhow, the bad karma set was bad ass and that is all that matters.

run for the hills: pretty killer versions of the best of iron maiden. Guess which ones were wearing wigs. I thing you will be surprised. The crowd (a lot of which are too young to remember an iron maide let alone an all long haired version of iron maiden) were into it. I'm guessing plenty of them got into maiden through people cover them. It don't matter what path leads you to maiden as long as you get there eventually.

mass: some old school metal band that i dont know who havent been together on a stage in a long time. I think Pete said 15 years? That could or could not be true. They were pretty good. They did a cover of led zeplin or someone like that. I forgot to write down the song and as of this minute, it's escaping my memory.

candy striper death orgy: set started off kind of week, but built it up after the set drew towards the end. I was all the way on the other side of the wall when I saw their big pit. By the time I got back over there, the pit was back down to one dude stomping around. I'm wondering how many pairs of those flame shorts can eric own. He's worn them like every single time I've seen then since the 90's and they still look bright, neon, and clean. He's gotta use that color safe bleach. eric lamented that there should have been more people here, but the turn out seemed pretty good to me. after CSDO hopped off the stage, they tore down that side of the stages.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Aug 18,2007 6:31pm

fallen shall rise: not sure what the big deal/buzz is with this band. Not really anything that I care about. 2 of the guys from the first band that I saw were in this band too. The singer had a really weird way of screaming. I didn't get it, but they are big on WAAF from what I hear. They set was made interesting by a ton of beach balls that sprung up. Watching the wizard security guys and girls play with them too was funny. After the band was done (no smashing pumpkins singer btw), there was a wicked loooog pause.

idk about that. I didn't really look at the faces in the crowd, but maybe each band had completely different crowds. anyhow, like I said, this show was really cool and someone needs to do thingvs like this for metal. make it so europe isn't the only one with awesome outdoor festivals. I think this fest would have been the shitbomb if they had gotten a headliner who would have drawn more than the usual crowd and their families.

toggletoggle post by Dankill at Aug 19,2007 6:54pm
This was pretty much a kick-off year. They are hoping to use all the sponsors and connections they gained in order to do this again next year with some SERIOUS headliner quality bands to fill a place of that size.
They had real shots to book bands like UNEARTH, THE RED CHORD, ALL THAT REMAINS and MASTADON, but on short notice it didn't work out.

Here we go again... A couple of faggots shitting on something good. This festival had many shots against it..... Ozzfest in CT., a battle of the bands with some dope from American Idiol headling it on the other side of Haverhill, and a big airshow at Pease Airforce Base. Plus, this was the first time in over 25 years the stadium has had a concert.

What's with this made up promoter stuff in the Hearld? I wasn't the promoter..... I helped put some good bands on the bill : Belladonna, Run To The Hills, us (CSDO) and Badkarma (took the place of Meliah Rage).

Next time this show will be bigger!! Radio ads have to be done on many stations. It wouldn't made a difference who was on this show.... It just wasn't going to pack in first time around. A lot of people didn't believe that a show was going to happen at the stadium........

Anyway, we all had a great time. Me (Eric) and Joey (Belladonna) sold a bunch of merch. We sold over 40 t-shirts

So pointing out obvious flaws is considered "shitting on something". This shows attendance was a joke, period. Blaming an air show at Pease and the American Idol at the castle is bull, the demographics are different. You think all the 12 year old girls screaming for "Idol" would have been at the stadium instead? Please! Same goes for the middle aged men at the airshow. This show failed due to poor promotion and lack of a headliner. I hope this show becomes an annual event and that it becomes a huge success, but that will never happen without a legit headliner.

toggletoggle post by cav at Aug 20,2007 2:14pm
if you want enough people to come to a stadium sized show, the music/musicians need to be relevant these days. everyone knows that an ex whatever 80s band singer isnt gonna draw more than a bar room full of people, not a friggin stadium. no offense to anyone who played this show but the only thrash band that anyone cares about these days is municipal waste and thats because they played with a lot of hardcore and metalcore bands the past year or so. plus haverhill is too far out of the way and too unheard of. and honestly you guys would never be able to book any of those bigger bands that were mentioned, pretty much every one of those bands is under the mighty rule of scott lee and would never play a mass show outside of worcester or sprinfield, unless its ozzfest or sounds of the underground. sorry guys. but if you do this fest next year, id pretty much expect the same type of turnout/bands unless you book lots of emo/screamo and youth crew hardcore bands, cus thats what draws in mass besides bands that are on headbangers ball.

toggletoggle post by xanonymousx at Aug 20,2007 2:19pm

I was surprised, afterward, that there were no bands from Haverhill or elsewhere in the Merrimac valley on the bill; contrary to some of the posts above, there's more than a few bands active in this region and people do go out to shows for them. Hell, Indignation and Death Defect have been known to charter (and fill) buses to lug their home fans to shows in the Boston area, and one would think that the same people, and probably more, would show up to see these bands playing on a fest like this right in their backyard.

Every festival has to start somewhere, and this was a decent start; the promoters might have added a band or two from the area instead of pulling from as far away as they did, and ideally they might have gotten a headliner from the bunch that Dan mentioned rather than someone who, honestly, wasn't really going to draw anyone who wouldn't've come to see Meliah and CSDO anyway. It could have been better, but this was the first year, and it turned out well enough.

I still can't explain this alleged quote in the Herald overstating the attendance by a factor of 50. Promoters, inevitably, will inflate the attendance at their gigs so that those who didn't go and don't know anyone who did will go "wow, I missed a big show, I better go next time", and those who do know people who went will hear "yeah, there wasn't that many people there, but it was still a good time", but the figures mentioned are a pipe dream. I've been on infields with this kind of space, and that many people, and it would barely be possible to get 10,000 people onto the ground at Haverhill stadium, with barely any breathing room. Accounting for movement in and out, somewhere around 300 people saw this show, and the organizers, from a point of view of security and services, were prepared for about 1000 max.

Wow, what's even better than saying there were 15,000-25,000 people there was that Anthrax played.

I'm pretty sure that reading that, the paper took some liberties with what the promoter said. 10,000 people is a pretty friggin wide birth.

then again, I was at the hatchshell (babysitting) for this show, 100,000 people? wow...

I'm sure that if you go to the top of this page you can put two and two together and figure out what band I'm from. unless you really are as retarded as you come off to be. i don't understand why there is so much tension on this board.... it was just a show. around 300 people came max alright? argument over and i am not completely sure how i am a jerk or a tool... but I'm ok. how are you doing horror_tang?

Wow, I live one town away and we play in that town, actually half of the band lives in Haverhill (Haverhill is a blast by the way) and I still never knew this was going on (not like I would have went) But still, talking about promotion, Basically I have been living in the jam rooms and didn't see any promo at all.

That is Reason 1) for what ruined the turn out.

Reason 2) I did know some peeps that went to that Air show and The guys that own the jamroom (who put the thing on) were definitely making a big deal about the battle of the band thing, I think they call it Haverhill rocks. It's like the semi for that dumb thing we did last year on TV.

Good luck next year on the fest in haverhill, hope it goes well, and hope I know about it next time.

Ohh and reason 3) the biggest reason. They definitely need a freaking headliner, that is just common sense, That is the biggest reason it failed by far. The only band that I ever heard on the bill was CSDO, and they are no headliner.

Hey guys,

dyingmuse is right........ The show needed way more promo. Next time I'll get street teams together with the promoter. For a stadium show stuff has to be put up everywhere........ Three to four people can't handle all of the promo for a big event like this. Plus, I think some of the bands could have done a lot more work.

toggletoggle post by dyingmuse   at Aug 21,2007 5:49pm
Yeah, it's a bummer things didn't turn out better, because that is a great idea playing that place, and if it had worked out it could have been good for the scene. Will it happen again next year?

When we did our tour last year, it was kinda left to the opening bands to do promo, and the lack of even trying was just horrible in some cases. It really does come down to the local bands doing their leg work.

Ha ha ha, I have heard him in Anthrax, but seriously, who cares about that jack off, he's a has been and is nothing without Anthrax. Getting Anthrax on the bill, well, I think the thing would have done excellent. Same with Meliah Rage and all these other come back bands, as someone had mentioned before, They may have a small dedicated fan base scattered throughout the world, but let's face it, they really don't draw that well in America. Nothing against the re-forming bands, but unless you were huge before and sadly missed by many people, it's just not enough.
