I know I said that I'd post a pic of my new Meinl cymbals when I actually took one, so here it is...

wtf... how can u afford that?

toggletoggle post by theaccurseddrummer  at Apr 8,2007 1:40am
Avoided buying anything for a while. I pretty much just found myself in dire need of gear that would be covered under a warranty, so I decided to go with one company and get it all at once, so I waited until tax time came and I got in some cash for financial aid, and went for it. They gave me a great deal and wanted me to send in stuff to apply for endorsement, so maybe I'll get lucky.

toggletoggle post by mOe  at Apr 8,2007 8:27am
about how much did all of that run you??
its easy to get endorsed by them because they're such a small company...if MS gets signed they're gonna be the first company i send a press kit to

Thats more crashing than the LA freeway!
Nice.

The grand total was just under $1800. List was like $3500 or something, but I got it direct from the factory at store price because I bought so much at once. Really easy company to work with. I'm hoping The Accursed CD sales and the fact that I'm gigging with three bands full time will get me at least a player's endorsement or something.

I'd try to fit more, but I think my rack might fall over on me while I'm playing.

I stood on my throne and held the camera up over my head, almost touching the ceiling. That's the only way I could get a decent shot that included everything.

Wow

That is sick and good luck with the endorsements....

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Apr 9,2007 7:12pm
if you already bought everything, what's the endorcement going to get you?

More cymbals(to replace when broken) or great deals on cyms, publicity (for him and his band on their website, magazine promos etc). Possibly a pass for the next namn convention.

free tshirts

what do the cymbals sound like compared to the big three companies?

toggletoggle post by hungtableed at Apr 9,2007 8:16pm
wow. Nice rig man, I'd love just 5 mins on a set like that.

What he said ^^^ plus it's a hell of a lot easier to go through the repair/replacement process, they keep in contact with opportunities for drummers like conventions, clinics, etc.. I wanted the cymbals, and didn't plan on sending an endorsement application, but I was convinced by one of their reps to send one because I play in three bands who all play somewhat regularly and have a decent following locally, one of whom is signed, so every little bit would help me.

Surprisingly good. I like the innovative series they're coming up with, but the stuff I got replaced my old gear without a problem. There's definitely a difference in sound, but they take a beating and sound pretty huge live.

Come on down to my next show and I'll let you sit in and do my sound check for me, and give them a quick try.

Oh, and Seth, thanks a lot bro! I'm not counting on anything, I'm not playing in Mastodon or Lamb of God or anything, but you never know.

Looks nice. A lot more cymbals than my setup. Looks like you beat me 18 to 4.

That saw blade splash on the left is the best!!

Trust me, I wonder why the hell I don't just cut it down to minimum, but the rack has everything mounted as is, so I just bring the whole setup wherever I go. There are plenty of benefits to having a small setup though, and I've got a practice kit at home with a ride, crash, hi-hat, splash & china splash.

Cheapest thing on my kit! Killer bell sound, and it cost me less than $3.00. Stagg just started this series of hand hammered bells, unfinished, really raw, and they sound cool, but you could seriously pay a couple bucks and get shit from a hardware store that sounds pretty much the same. I'm thinking about getting another sawblade and having someone machine the blades off of it and carving it down to maybe 4 or 5 inches to get a higher pitched bell sound. Works well.

I know what you mean. I used to have a rack. I sold it a few years ago in favor of mounting everything off 2 stands.

x2!

that's a killer setup man! can't wait to hear it live

toggletoggle post by theaccurseddrummer  at Apr 10,2007 1:32pm
I've gotten the chance to use them live a few times with Polaris, and practicing with STR & The Accursed, but I can't wait to play more shows with them. Things are pretty slow for the next month or so, but hopefully this summer I'll be gigging my ass off. And hopefully I can get together with the dudes rocking The Death Perception with me, but that's a logistics nightmare, schedules are FUBAR and nobody's in the same place at the same time, ever.

On another gear note, I'm compiling a list of shit that these cymbals replaced that I'm not going to keep, so I'll post a "for sale" ad some time today. If the stuff's cracked or too worn I'll probably give it away, but the nicer stuff I want to try and sell, but reasonably.
