I have a question about my ipod/itunes.

When I download/rip music, I haveto put it in my music folder, att it to the Itunes library, and sync it with my ipod.

if i delete something from my computer, it won't put it on my ipod, it will copy everything that's in my music folder.

Is there any way I can delete the stuff I have in my computer and keep it on my ipod, but still be able to add individual songs and CDs to my ipod without interfering with the stuff that's already on there?

Should i just buy an external drive? recomendations?

Also, I'd like to keep Itunes if possible, learning a different program to do this will probably just give me a headache.

check manage music manually.

then get some software that will get songs off your ipod... your ipod encrypts the location and renames the files to files in an invisible folder like this "FDSGTH.mp3". they arare there but apple doesnt wanna make it easy for you to copy it off your ipod. but there are programs to fix this and they dont really care so much.

ps the ipod mounts as a hardrive. you can put mp3s on there but the os on the ipod wont read them. you would think someone would have fixed this on the ipod end.

yeah seriously. there's an option in iTunes if you select your iPod from the device list that lets you synch or not synch your itunes library. Synching it would mean that every time you plug in your iPod iTunes will update it in accordance to what's in your library. Un-synching it means that your iPod library and your iTunes library are separate. It's better because you won't have to keep all that stuff on your hard drive BUT you'll have to import everything manually in the future.

yea i used to do it all manually with my shitty laptop but I kept running into problems like songs not being on there that i put on there, files flat our disappearing, etc
Now i just have all my music on an external hard drive that i keep at work and update with that comp and the library's synched....its actually pretty sweet

or you can avoid the abortion that is Windows altogether and just stay with a Mac...

I never wanted a Mac until I started working in the art department at my company, now I'm used to OSX, and really enjoying it.

Yeah, I don't think I want to spend the money on one, though. Sure, I'm used to them... I don't know, we'll see.

so, does anyone have a utillity like Senuti for a PC? I used to use WinAMP with the ml_ipod plugin, but winamp doesn't support that anymore since they integrated ipod support right into the program.

I'm playing around with Senuti now, and I like it alot. But it won't matter once I get home, as I don't own a Mac :-\
