When does O'Briens officially open back up? I hope they didn't make it a respectable establishment. I like that shitty sticky-floored bar. Good line-up too.....hah hah.....it's on 4/20
Sometime near the end of February. The first Boston's Dead back might be the first show. I heard they kept the floors, but now have a huge stage, pro stage lights and a killer PA.
We just recently talked to the management at O'Briens and the club looks like it will be open really soon. At this point the Atomic BBQ on Friday, April 20th is on. It is going to be a close call but we are hopeful they will be open in time. They just put in the order to start stocking the bar which is a good sign.

I just cancelled the show the day before hand. The bar still hasn't been stocked, a few people walked by today and called me. So I'm assuming that the show on Friday most likely won't happen either. Shitty to the max.
Yeah. I'll get the official word tomorrow, but Carl already told me it'd be a good idea for me to move my show on the 23rd to another venue... so I assume this is probably cancelled as well.
I really don't see all the Skybar hostility. It's been having more and more metal shows while all the other clubs shut down, are "under renovation" or decide that metal's not worth having. It's got issues for sure, but a lot of decent shows wouldn't have happened in the last 6 months if not for Anders' willingness to let some different stuff in there for once.

The sky bar closes mad early, the sound guys are pricks, the beer is expensive, and they only give metal shows Sundays because they know no one goes to shows on Sundays.
The only good thing about that place is the Chinese food next door.
I just don't like only having Sundays to book there. I wasn't there at the infamous show where the sound guy was a prick. The sound guy I've dealt with is always awesome. Last time we trashed shit and threw the mic down hard on the stage and he didn't care, and in fact Anders said we can come back anytime because we were so great. My main gripe is the early closing time and the fact that people don't come out to it for heavy shows. I'm sure if Scott and others continue booking stuff there after I leave it'll slowly gain an audience.
I've booked Friday and Saturday shows there. Anders set up Sunday specifically for metal shows, but I'm sure she'd be willing to go for other days too. I'm hoping to book more stuff, since every show I've had so far has been decent (even Sunday with the monsoon), but I'll be pissed if this sort of attitude about the place kills attendance.

Def. Liz, I'd certainly rather have a shitty bar than no bar at all. But I'm less inclined to make the long ass fucking drive to pay 4 or 5 bucks for shitty flat draft, seven or eight bucks at the door, get tossed out at 11pm, and be dead tired in class the next morning because sunday shows are gay. I'll do it occasionally because I like going to shows and there have been some great line ups there...but I'm sick of getting shit and hearing whining about "the scene" sucking because people don't go to these shows.

They've been out of those every time I've gone there. Maybe they're finally learning.
I'll keep all these complaints about the Skybar in mind when they stop having shows due to shitty turnout and then everybody complains about no place to have shows.
Not to say that there's been shitty turnout at my shows, the bands all got paid at each of them, but I'm sure that will change with the way things are going.
I'm not giving you shit for not coming out to my shows, and I'm not making a statement about the "scene", I'm just trying to help out by booking good bills. Anybody that's got a problem with that can book their own. You're doing your part with the Dee Dee's shows, so no problem there.
