I played one at GC. It had a nice heavy full body feel, excellent finish and hardware, the flame looks good, and the tone wasn't to bad for an ibanez with IBZs.

I typically hate ibanez, but with ESPs shortcomings lately, I think I might buy this. Opinions?

The only drawbacks right now are:

1. I hate floyd rose marshmellows to death, but i'm thinking about taking the plunge and blocking it.

2. Selling my MH1000 to afford it.

3. Mark buying my MH400NT so i can afford it.

4. The Ibanez logo on the guitar.

5. Certain specs (tone knob, neck pickup, rosewood fretboard, non-locking tuners, ect.)

should we call for a pizza then, i mean this could take a lil while. might as well enjoy our time together, then again we could just call mark richards and make him eat shitball subs.

We should probably get china food.

It can be quite difficult to force feed Mark shitball subs if there's pizza in the room.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Feb 7,2007 1:47pm
should I make a "special tag" for gear threads?

I would use it.

If it's not a huge hassle to code on your end, it would be pretty cool.

I'm pretty sure that's where Happy Days got the term "necking" from.

i love those RGT neck throughs, though i find the necks to be a little big. but you're used to LTD necks so you shouldnt have a problem.

switch the pickups (dont try EMGs for once in your life) and don't get it blocked. just learn how to use it. either that or get a tremol-no.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Feb 7,2007 2:01pm
nico, try editing your thread and changing it.

I love big necks. If you ever played my old MCS you would wonder how they even find a tree thick enough to make those things out of.

I've only been using EMGs for like the past 2 years. I have tones of experience with SDs, Dimarzio, and Lace Sensors.

More than likely a dimarzio X2n will be put in this.

and i know how to use a floyd, but I prefer the setup and tuning simplicity of string thru body.

If I were to block it, I would definately be using a tremol-no and only blocking it one way. I might even buy a fat plate. who knows.

Aaron, are you going to put a gears link under "OT Threads" in the left nav bar?

haha funny you should say that. i used to hate and talk a lot of shit about ibanez. then i bought this exact guitar and i fucking love it. it's a ridiculously good guitar for the money. and i was die hard anti-ibanez. now i see the light. i threw some emg's in it and it's maybe the easiest playing guitar i've ever touched.

toggletoggle post by Niccolai   at Feb 7,2007 2:27pm
aeser, do you have AIM? there are a bunch of questions i want to ask about it.

toggletoggle post by aeser   at Feb 7,2007 2:33pm
yea, aeser603

toggletoggle post by porphyria at Feb 7,2007 2:39pm
I owned the GIGER RGT which is basically the same thing but a different color, threw in an X2N and it sounded awesome.

The INF2/1 are shit in comparison.

It weighed a ton, and the fact that it wasn't a real Edge, but an Edge II it just felt cheap. The bridge posts being as tiny as they were caused problems keeping pitch.

I dumped it for more than I bought it for on ebay and invested a bit more into a 2005 UV777 and couldn't be happier.

toggletoggle post by porphyria at Feb 7,2007 2:44pm
and since you won't use the trem, why not just get the version without it? I've seen it floating around before...

they also have new RGT models...

The inlays and the finish on the one I want are soooo nice though. I've played that black RG in guitar centers a billion times, but I like my MH1000 better

toggletoggle post by largefreakatzero at Feb 7,2007 3:07pm
Yeah, my other guitar player is in the process of rebuilding that same guitar for me. I played that thing for many years and I completely rotted through the hardware. We bought a parts guitar with the same hardware (except black) and we are switchin out the trem, knobs, etc. I think the guitar plays great, but yes, the INF pickups are shite. I have an old Guild with an EMG 60 that I am putting in the Ibanez. So I guess, yes it's a great guitar, but that brushed pewter finish hardware absorbs sweat like you wouldn't believe -- or maybe I'm just a gross sweaty bastard.

By the way, who knows anything about an EMG 60? I have an 81 and 85 in my ESP, but I don't know anything about the 60.

toggletoggle post by Niccolai   at Feb 7,2007 3:09pm edited Feb 7,2007 3:10pm
The 60 is slightly warmer then the 81, but not muddy and fart sounding like the 85.

people usually only use them in the neck position of their guitars. Those people are missing out though. They sound very ballsy in the bridge position.

I've had 2 guitars with dual 60s in them. They sound awsome.

toggletoggle post by largefreakatzero at Feb 7,2007 3:11pm
That's cool, I haven't played that Guild for years, so I couldn't remember. I will get to try it tomorrow and compare with my ESP, so I will post my analysis on Friday.

No, I like it for the playability and feel. The bridge on that black ibanez is not as comfortable as the bridge on the RGT24DXFM or the tune-o-matic on my MH1000. Although the appearence of the RGTDXFM is the reason I'm interested in that and not.. say.. an Ibanez S model with the same specs and quality.

wow, nick...you think you know a person. you will now have to run the gauntlet.

and i ain't eating no shitball sammich, or chinese food. bitches.

Yeah, you're right about the warmer sound. I now have 60 in the bridge position on my RGT42 and that guitar is completely back to life with all new hardware. I like the 81 in my MH-400, but the 60 is less brash but still with plenty of drive. Me like.

has anyone used one of these first hand?

I've been thinking about getting one for my Ibanez, but I want to know if they're worth it and how much of a pain in the balls they are to install

toggletoggle post by Niccolai   at Feb 9,2007 12:31pm
I have used used them.

they are definately worth it, and not difficult to install into any of my LTDs, but Ibanez has some wierd trems and it can get pretty nasty inside their controll cavities, so I don't know if it would be harder, or even possible to install it into certain ibanez trems.

well, Tom (see pic of his swirly RG above) has one installed on his Edge Lo-Pro and I have a standard Edge (which I don't care for, but it serves the purpose), so I don't think I should have much of an issue installing it. I'm pretty guitar savvy, considering I do all my own setups, intonation and other work (saves me money, and I don't have to wait a week for it to get setup at GC or Daddys or somewhere else)
