ok.. I type a long fucking review of acariya and kipe, but my phone fucked up and I lost it. Arg... I even proof-read. this is not proof read.

Here's a summary. I'm wicked hot ans sweaty. I want shorts, but the only shorts in my car are the swimtrunks carina got me for xmas.

kipe: (mainstage) their stuff showed enough influences from 80's heavy metal/bar rock to be interesting. I'm guessing the anthrax show they are playing will be better suited an audience for them.

acariya: (secondstage) losts of energy. Silly danced in the crowd. Touch of moshing. A-team samples. Ended early

I would also like to add, besides all the red lights and the pool table stage left, the second stage is nicer than the mainstage. I like the bands back and forth so I don't care what anyone says. acariya sounded awesome on that stage. the bands also get way more set up/check time and a lot longer time on stage.

arsis: (mainstage) there was some dude filling in vocals for the guitarist (the guitarist who looks like jason misery index but when he was in dying fetus). I guess he lost his voice. This is on top of Daren fillinf in on drums. The fill in singer looked really familiar. Probably saw another band with him in it. Daren had his britney head set on and was doing back-up vocals, but I didn't really hear them. Also, I thougt he had a double bass. Anyhow, I'm so happy they didn't cancel. They are the main reason I came to this show. Even with the last minute replacements, it was worth it. Such a good band. The singing guitarist kept quiet, but turned up the horns over and over. The bass player looked like either colin (frozen) or farmer dave (since the flood) with long hair.
Mark Fucking Richards: At one point the fill in singer yelled for "everyone be like that dude" pointing at your cousin Bill. I yelled "i will never act like 'that dude'."
they also played that song that kills posted on willow tip.

our last sacrifice: (secondstage) not sure if I've seen them before, but I was sort of expecting them to be sporting wu-ware and doing some manchester rap-core. they were pretty decent. sounded like death metal with a few breakdowns. The vocals reminded me a little of cannae. The big dude's in the security were staring at their friends who were dancing a little bit. one of the guitarist was shredding over a bunch of the rhythm parts of the songs. Reminded me of seven day curse when I noticed he was doing them. His guitar was way too quiet.

human abstract, the: (mainstage) they were all set up and ready, but the singer was MIA. Weird. They were 1000x better this time that the last tour. In 9 months (i think they did a lot of touring), they completely upgraded their stage presence to compete with their playing. They took a page out of the book of Dillinger Escape Plan and had lots of back lights, stobes, etc. but they had a dude controlling it all (the sixth beatle). Damn, awesome. I hope they read this at some point. They have made the quality jump in to a proficent national touring band. Even the voice parts that sort of annoyed me before were kind of covered over and sounded more like protest the hero. They had samples that played during their set, coming in with one on a bunch of songs, including the first which was correographed with the lights. The bass drop and keyboards were on the samples. Some of the keyboards were playing when the "annoying" vocals were on.

why did arsis play so early?

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jan 6,2007 8:43pm
ill conceived: (secondstage) the singer kept asking me if I was "fucking ready" but I wasn't quite sure if I was or not. What should I do? this is the first band that I've ever heard who was proud to be from fitchberg mass. I thought they sounded a lot like sam black church and then they did a song tribute to SBC. I'm not sure why but they also sent a song out to converge. I have yet to see someone in coverge at this club. The bassplayer had to change his bass and their second guitarist showed up after they played 4 songs. He set up quickly (while the singer told a story about a 1 armed stripper) and played 2 or 3 songs with them.

No one should act like that dude.

much agreed. everyone should sign a petition to that effect.

mnemic: (mainstage) at this point, they were running 25 minutes ahead of schedule. Mnemic ate some of that. Honestly, I don't recognize any of the songs or people in the band and I thought I shot these guys before. The palladium?eh, whatever. At this point, if someone told me they were a different band, I would believe them. The only song I recognized was the last song. it started off with a korn-like song intro and then sounded like in flames. now that the mnemic I remember. During their set, one of the bouncers asked me if I was shooting for the bands and I was told if strippers came over to this side I couldn't shoot. Um.. Ok... Why would I take pictures of stripppppers? They are sweaty screaming dudes and if it's not sweaty screaming dudes, I wouldn't shoot them. the place was pretty packed for them.

oh, then I met the drummer for trouble with bml. Super nice dude.

mortis deveia: (secondstage) the place was COMPLETELY PACKED for these guys. at the end of their set, the mic got cut, but people chanted for them to get one more song and the sound guy let them go, turning everything back on. The new song they ended with had a lot more fret work by henry and some nice satriani sounding parts at the beginning.

goatwhore: (mainstage) it amazes me how many "different" people are into them now-a-days. is my prophecy for 2007 coming true? basically all the crowd for MD just turned around and walked to the other stage. They played good... Not the best set I've seen them do. It seemed like ben was putting it all into the set, but the other guys were holding back. I'm guessing they will do better as the tour goes on. They were just more in your face the last time they played here. They also ended so quickly. It felt like a really short set.

toggletoggle post by DreamingInExile   at Jan 6,2007 11:22pm
wow... it's pretty bad when they have to set up 2 stages at Marks to incorporate all the bands...

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jan 6,2007 11:22pm
that you to the people during MD and goatwhore that helped me find my diffuser dome. It's hard to buy new ones and they are $15+s/h. Thanks.

frozen: (secondstage) even though one of the guitar players needed a hernia operation and he couldn't give 110% (his insides would be out on the floor then), the band played awesome. Both the guys from seemless and cannae came out to see them play. They ended with people chanting for covers, but that didn't happen. you'll have to see them when they headline for that.

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jan 7,2007 12:39am
God Forbid: (mainstage) the crowd went pretty wild for them and more than 1/2 of them stayed til the end. This is one of the most active, but non-moshing mind you, crowds I've seem at this venue. it was an awesome spectacle to see this many people in a venue in NH rocking out to god forbid after so many bands played. The entire front 3 row were head banging for one song and I thought the barricade was going to collapse. I didn't see a single person get kicked out either. (to be continue..)

toggletoggle post by the_reverend   at Jan 7,2007 12:41am
.... Ever since the first time I saw them (2000 at the palladium) and all the 10+ shows since then, I knew that they were going to do awesome. I mean they have been around for how many years and it's still all the original members. Even when they played fat cat's, you could just tell. It's funny even though they get more and more "metal" with each CD, they seem to keep the old fans and aquire new ones. "yeah, they made it really far, playing bedford, nh" true, but they pulled in 100's of people to the middle of the woods to a show. A hard duty in a time of 5 shows each night and this being the most expensive of the lot of them. The fog machine set to 11. A pure white curtain at times. It was really hard to cut through with my flash. Then around the 3rd song, security were told to shutdown all cameras, except for me. I get 1 more song. So I raced around and was a little pushy getting up front to shoot pictures of these guys. I apologize to all the feet that I stepped on and to the guy whose head I basically rammed with my lens hood. Sorry, when I'm rushed I make more mistakes. When I got to the other side of the crowd, every red shirt that saw me made a b-line in my direction to tell me to kill the cameras. Just doing their job. Oh and if you don't think these guys are some of the nicest dudes around, I would like to point out that the shorter guitarist watched baically every single band that played. I'm probably one of the only other people who did that. He also gave a speech "if you ever come acrost any rockstar mother fucker, just kick him in the balls and post it on youtube" that lead into the fact that GF puts up GFTV things on youtube. There was a guy here filming for it so look for yourself on the next version (reported on rttp of course).

at the end of their set, they bribbed people to stick around for ruin. again, awesome dudes. that's right, one more band.

God Forbid has nice taste in guitars

great show. hanging the monitors above the second stage made a big difference. before, if you weren't directly out front, they blocked half the stage.

No, Mark's showplace did NOT ban aaron from taking photos. A promoter gave aaron a hard time and then he left but things have been since sorted out

ruin: (secondstage) this is one thing I'd complain about if I were ruin.. Playing after the headliner on a second stage is a bit too much. one of the bands on the second stage should have been cut or moved to the main stage. Anyhow, they started off a little rocky... One of the guitar amps gave them a scare by not working right at first. That got fixed quick. They played pretty well considering there was one mess up at the beginning of a song and the second guitarist broke an A-string (he just tuned differently cause he didn't have a back up). After a song or two, he put on a new string, but the band kept playing and he came in perfectly to do the rhythm under the main solo. I wish revocation would put these dudes on a boston show.
