I'm cancelling my account with Nextel after 2 1/2 years, got it when all my friends had direct connect, but now everyone has a razor. I'd like to get a razor for the convenience, I may go back to Unicel since it looks pretty good service wise. Any ideas? Aaron stay out of this with your high tech computer phone haha.

I use Verizon. You can get a Razor through them but the razor sucks. The buttons are hard to push when dialing because they're so flat but that's my opinion. Verizon you get unlimited nights, weekends, and IN Calling & Text Messenging which is cool. Plus the service overall is pretty good, I believe I've only been to 1 spot that has no service what so ever and of course that's my band room go figure.

you probably get no service because of all of the electronic equipment in the room.

I'm a Tmobile fan. Seems like you get the most minutes for the money. customer service is good, free nights and weekends, blah blah blah.

unlike verizon, you don't have to pay them 200$ to get an account.

another reason I didn't go with verizon is that they don't use sim cards, so they charge you an additional 20$ to switch phones if your phone is broken or stolen.

i'm with niccolai; i used to have cingular, absolutely hated. my dad had nextel and we all absolutely hated it. my sister had verizon and they dicked her over several times, so needless to say she hated it. we all switched to t-mobile 2 years ago and haven't had a single problem. it's easy as hell to coerce them into giving you free expensive phones, or at least a huge discount. my sister dropped her pink razor in a lake or something like that, with no insurance on it. t-mobile sent her a new one free of charge 3 weeks later.

and razors are definitely an acquired taste; i've got one, and it has only started giving me minor problems lately, because i never turn it off unless i'm on a plane. people say they fall apart easily since they use glue instead of screws to hold everything together, but you shouldn't have any problems unless you're the incredible hulk. i've dropped mine about 100 times now and nothing bad has happened to it beyond a few light surface scratches.

Could be, also our band room is located in an old mill surrounded by bricks.

well, it's not a matter of them being too lazy. they used it to paint the walls in all the new UMass dartmouth dorms/apartments. so they're doing this shit on purpose, haha

I have T-Mobile, and I've never had a problem. If you go through their web site, you can get a better deal on a phone than if you go to one of their stores.

I used to have t-mobile. i fucking hated it. got no signal at my house or anywhere around it. one day they shut off my service. when i called they said it was a social security number problem. Turns out, somehow at some point in time someone typed my social security number in wrong and reversed 2 of the numbers. They had all these crazy hoops i had to jump through to prove i was who i was and that it was my account. Even though it was obvious it was my SSN. I went to the t-mobile store and the fucking employees were all helpless. The manager came out and actually gave ME a hard time. They told me that I had to call their fraud department. I used one of their display phones to call and they completely flipped out and cut me off when i had been waiting on hold for 15 minutes. I told them that i was completely unhappy and was going to be going to cingular. All the sudden they were all my buddies trying to explain to me how perfect they were. Still none of them helped me with my social security number problem. They made me sit through this whole speech while i told them "Im cancelling" over and over again.

actually it started to get funny when i was messing with the guy. He was reading this canned speech thing and told me "You have to listen to this or we won't cancell your account". So i started writing on his printer paper things like "Doesn't about anything you have to say" with an arrow pointed to me. Finnally he cancelled my account. I was in the store for a good 3 hours.

I went directly to Cingular. 15 minutes later i had a phone picked out and a plan all set up. They let me choose my own phone number and the guy set everything up for me. My phone was free and he gave me a credit to my account for the first month. The signal is perfect. I have to work hard to find any place where i don't get reception. I always have 5 bars and even when i only have 1 the calls still sound fine.

Im sure my case is one in a million but the way t-mobile handled my problem makes me think they are very unprofessional and a big hassle. Cingular has been amazing.

tmobile's customer service has gone in the shitter...
i wouldn't recommend them

Cingular is the worst fucking network on the face of the planet. Fuck them.

I actually just got Nextel a few months ago because my work's paying for it. Why does everybody hate them? I haven't had any problems yet but I'd like to know what to look out for.

I simply don't like them because they charge me $60/month for decent service, and after over two years with them I never got any good deals on anything, no upgrades, jack shit. On top of that I'm paying for features I don't even use (Direct Connect, Text Messaging). Honestly though, if your work is paying for it, then you have a good deal, because they can be assholes when you don't make a payment, but usually they're pretty rational, I just don't like the prices or their phone features.

Yeah the phones were expensive as fuck. I could have bought a sprint plan and got a free phone with all the bells and whistles. But the shitty model nextel phones were like $70.

As far as plans go, I (work) pays $39.99 a month for 450 minutes (that I don't come close to using). Free direct connect & group direct connect or whatever the fuck they call it. Free nights after 9pm and free weekends. And text messages cost $0.15 each and it doesn't tell me who they're coming from. I'm not thrilled with Nextel but seeings as though it's free I don't really care. I wouldn't recommend them for personal use.

Also, direct connect is totally useless for anything but work. The people that walk around all day using it are just being ostentatious. Nearly all phones have the ability to take DC off speakerphone.

I'm going to bite the bullet and pay $200 for an early termination fee. I'm done with Nextel.

I spent 2 hours on the phone with 4 different black women from Missouri yesterday in what can only be described as the worst tech support service ever. And this was all to activate a free feature (that they tried to get me to pay for) that is already active on EVERY FUCKING CELL PHONE ON THE PLANET.

That combined with the fact that their phones are fucking expensive, my direct connect feature stopped working months ago, and that I don't feel like carrying around this ancient t-mobile blackberry 7230 for work anymore is enough to make me consider switching.

I may just get a newer Blackberry Pearl from Verizon or something.

Verizon's lack of simcard is the most aggrivating thing on earth.

Yeah but how often does anybody ever have to switch phones?

Phones break on me all the time.

plus, Verizon gets terrible service where I am (whitman). I have tmobile now, which doesn't have amazing service here but verizon is worse.

I'm thinking about going with sprint though, since all the sprint users I know get 5 bars around here, and they are the only provider that gets service in hull(which is where I spend most of my time)

so I'm either going sprint or jumping on the gay Iphone wagon once my contract is up.

But who knows, maybe the nokia Aeon will be out by then.

Do Not get T-mobile, their corp. structure is failing. I've had them 3 years now, and while their customer servicen is good, (If you get past the recorded voice that gets an attitude when you try) Everything else has gone South i.e. I have 2 lines, 750 mins(i don't use) free nights wknds, mob. 2 mob. I pay an extra 19.99 a mo for unlimited text and pic. My daughter in FL has a t-mobile line and because she's not on a shared or Fam. plan, she has 2pay 5.99 for t-mobile 2T mobile. AND GET THIS VERIZON can give U unlimited text & pics to ANY NETWORK, not 2 mention verizon to verizon all at no charge. The my faves 5 is BS.
My contract is up in November, I'm going straight to VERIZON...CAN U HEAR ME NOW?your text here
